A gorgeous blue quilt! Border, I don't know. You have created a beautiful quilt so far. I will look forward to the final showing.

Schnookie 06-17-2011 06:22 AM

I think I would find some more of the (Dark Blue Paisley) I think it would add a lot to your quilt...mind you that it is a beautiful quilt and I am sure you will find what you like the best!

JoanneS 06-17-2011 07:17 AM

Absolutely gorgeous piecing and colors. I agree that a darker blue would be a good choice to make the whole top pop.

Great-great granny 06-17-2011 07:23 AM

Beautiful quilt - Just an idea, but how about the darkest paisley in the sqs. since there is a solid lt. blue border now.

Good luck, be sure & post a pic of the finished product for us to see.

Hi there,

Love your quilt and, drool, fabric.
A gal friend of mine just came back from a 5 day retreat and the big thing now are flanges. Just and 1 &1/2 of fabric folded to "contain" the quilt, then the borders are added. Lay fold toward inside or body of quilt and sew down. This is a $600 tip!

By adding a flange, you can create separation then use the fabrics you have left over or add new fabrics for borders. I had thought flanges would all be darker but just saw a quilt at a show and it had one of the lightest colors in the quilt!

Kappy 06-17-2011 07:42 AM

If you could find a drk. blue to compliment your drk blue. I would make a very narrow border of that and then use the paisley (I love that paisley you have used!) for a second border. But that could be because I really really like the paisley! LOL

G'ma Kay 06-17-2011 07:43 AM

I would look for a piece that is a few shades darker than the darkest blue you already have and use that for the border. It would brighten the blues in your quilt. It's beautiful.

trrmite 06-17-2011 07:52 AM

No suggestion for border, love everything about it.

Karen Collins 06-17-2011 08:08 AM

I Love the Quilt. I keep looking at the colors and I keep leaning toward the darker blue as binding. I am sorry that you cannot find the original fabric. I would take the quilt to your LQS and play around with the same color that you want to use. I've run out of fabric for making matching pillowcases. The original fabric I used was no longer available so the owner of the store found a fabric that was perfect! Hope this helps.

GayleM 06-17-2011 08:22 AM

Try quiltshops.com and do an item search if you know the name of the pattern or manufacturer. I live in TX and found the exact fabric I needed at a quilt shop in Vacaville, CA. It was a real "quilt saver". LOL.

juliea9967 06-17-2011 08:26 AM

I think the paisley print would be nice. Do you have enough of it?

My time 06-17-2011 08:50 AM

I agree, go with the darkest blue you have left which guess is the paisley fabric. A dark blue however, would really make your quilt pop.

linhawk 06-17-2011 08:56 AM

find a plain dark blue that matches your dark blue.

sylviasmom 06-17-2011 09:03 AM

the paisley or the blue cross hatch are my vote.

Sewfine 06-17-2011 09:23 AM

Your's is beautiful and they line up better than mines. Double wow! this is the same pattern I am using for my dad's quilt that I have been working on the last month. Could not decide which blue to give him and my brother. Have that blue fabric with the same curve symbols. Small world.

IBQUILTIN 06-17-2011 09:27 AM

I would probably use the paisley print. It has all the shades and tones in it

joyce888 06-17-2011 09:31 AM

Did you try quiltshops.com by putting in the fabric line or name? Or do you have enough of all the fabrics to do a pieced or piano key border?

glenda 06-17-2011 10:26 AM

Do you still have some selvedge of your dark blue? Go online to the company and you may find some more. It's worth a try.

chris_quilts 06-17-2011 10:57 AM

Dark blue like so many others have said. Wanted to tell you that it's beautiful and great work. I use this pattern often for table runners and wall hangings and didn't realize that 3 fabs in the same color would look as stunning as yours does. Thanks for letting me drool. MY 17 yo DD also loves it.

I too vote for a paisley border. What is your backing material?

lollygagging 06-17-2011 11:22 AM

How about a piano border with a new dark blue and the light blue and paisley you already have...

The backing a dark navy blue...

Nancy Ingham 06-17-2011 12:06 PM

The dark navy blue to match the backing would work as well. I think I see some navy in the paisley and a navy border would make the paisley pop. Let us see the finished quilt once you decide and complete it. Very pretty!!

Mary L Booth 06-17-2011 12:16 PM

Pretty quilt, use 2 or 3 of the other blues and piece a ribbin border. I love ribbin borders.

What's the name of the pattern. I'm picturing it in orange and I don't know why!!!

serenitybygrace 06-17-2011 12:21 PM

The quilt is beautiful! If you have the brand of the fabric and the number and enough time, you could probably find an exact match on the web.

CabinQuilterz 06-17-2011 01:38 PM

I like the paisley

veranugent 06-17-2011 02:45 PM

If you have enough of the blue paisley, I'd use that for the border. Otherwise, find another dark blue fabric, not a solid but maybe a small print.

TheCloser 06-17-2011 03:02 PM

How about a narrow border of the dark blue or even white, then add a wider border of your lighter blue if you have enough.

MargeD 06-17-2011 03:22 PM

Beautiful quilt - love the blues. I might try a darker blue with a pattern that had some of the other blues in it. I just ran out of fabric that I thought I had enough of for a narrow border after doing sashings, and had to rethink my inner border. Instead of having one solid narrow border, I continued using the darker blue sashing and corner stones for the outer border. This, again after I thought I had measured right, I had to cut down 1/4" to get enough and still had to piece a couple of sashing strips. I'm taking a break on my favorite site to visit with you all so that I can go back in and finish the sashing and corner stones (they are all sewn together, just have to sew then on the quilt), then I need to add the final border. Wish me luck. Then I have to iron the backing fabric to take to my girl friend's house tomorrow so she can help me pin baste it so that I can quilt it, bind it and get it out the door before July 4th. Prayers anyone? lol

Baloonatic 06-17-2011 03:42 PM

I'd go to your stash or LQS and find a blue that will go with the dark blue one in the quilt. It's going to finish up so pretty!

LaurieLibra 06-17-2011 03:53 PM

My vote would be for the paisley print, how pretty!

malega 06-17-2011 04:10 PM

I think you should use the paisley print.

conniejean 06-17-2011 04:20 PM

I have found lots of fabric on-line when I ran short. Hopefully you know the name of the fabric, manufacturer, color name, etc. Just start searching on Google using the fabric or manufacturer name. Could bring up hundreds of hits. Do a search for Quilt Shops in your state, then go to each one & search for the fabric. Also, Hancocks of Paducah, Quilt Index, Fabric Shack in Waynesville, OH. Good Luck.

Maria C 06-17-2011 04:56 PM

I love what you have done. Great work. I like the idea of a pieced border with shades of the blues but I do like the paisley as well. It also looks great as it is so it just depends on the look you want and the size you want to achieve I guess. Nice work and hope to see what you choose.

sew_itnow 06-17-2011 05:15 PM

Why not use the same material as is in the blocks. The one with the pattern on it.

busygranny 06-17-2011 06:41 PM

I would take it to the quilt shop and start laying dk. blues along side it, til I found a dark blue that went with it. Very pretty quilt.

thebossbab 06-17-2011 07:04 PM

What about your dark paisley and then bind it in a dark blue if you can find one you like? Your quilt is very pretty. Love the fabrics. :-)
