I'd keep it simple and just use your dark blue, about the same width as the size of your 1/4 squares in your main block .... let your pretty pattern dominate from edge to edge.

Being that you don't have any left, is there any chance you could get it at another store? Or just use the turquoise and bind it as is.

CoriAmD 06-16-2011 12:20 PM

Sorry, no suggestions on the border, but I just want to say... Beautiful quilt!

Raggiemom 06-16-2011 12:26 PM

It's a beautiful quilt. If you can't find that particular dark blue, how about a different darker blue?

MellieKQuilter 06-16-2011 12:34 PM

What about some other color? Like a red in the same tone?? (that may be too wild...) Oooo... or a red in the same pattern as one of the blue patterns in the center??

JUNEC 06-16-2011 12:37 PM

I think dark blue just might work - what a beautiful quilt

ube quilting 06-16-2011 12:41 PM

Nice quilt. I used that same blue paisley. Take the quilt to your fav LQS and pick something slightlly darker than the dark blue background. Don't try to match it. A darker blue will really make the quilt pop.
peace :-)

Wow thank you all for the wonderful comments...thid is a wedding gift for a very special niece and I wanted it to be pretty for her...

makakehau 06-16-2011 01:02 PM

Wow! Just wanted to echo the others. That is a beautiful top .
Dark blue will really set it off. Please share with us when
you've finished.

yes you can probably find more blue paisley than the dark blue. so either one would be fine. lovely quilt!!

I thought about that but thought it might be too much blue...I have looked at the all my haunts and they have none...so sad...it sold out very quickly...

Beautiful quilt.I would use the paisly print if you have enough. If not any blue that is in the paisley.

Here's a designer trick. If you cannot match a color exactly use 3 in that color and it will look like it is matched. As you already have a nice selection of blues, any blue will work.
Your niece will love it.

I like this idea too. It will really let the paisley pattern stand out. It's beatiful!

maryb119 06-16-2011 04:02 PM

I would use a dark blue fabric for the border.

Buckeye Rose 06-16-2011 04:17 PM

Great quilt....am thinking maybe a navy border....something with a small print?

Dina 06-16-2011 04:35 PM

Beautiful!! I'd go with some sort of dark blue. I know you don't have any of the medium blue left, but a darker blue would look good.

wolfkitty 06-16-2011 05:39 PM

Gorgeous fabrics, and it came together well as a quilt! I would look for a darker blue fabric, similar to what is in the paisley, for the border. That would frame it nicely. Keep up the good work!

FranW 06-16-2011 06:10 PM

I agree with everyone else. The quilt is beautiful and a dark blue border would make it pop!

labtechkty 06-16-2011 06:18 PM

Thank you all for your suggestions....going to LQS in am....

irishrose 06-16-2011 08:40 PM

Narrow navy blue strip to contain the colors, then a wide border of the blue mid tone paisley.

soccertxi 06-16-2011 09:52 PM

Love this quilt..how about something in a different direction? I would take it with me to the quilt shop to see if the I could find these colors in a print that would tie it all together. You might be surprised!

cathylynn 06-16-2011 10:33 PM

can't help with the borders, but wow! this is a beautiful quilt.

smagruder 06-17-2011 02:49 AM

Your quilt is outstanding. I wish you and the happy couple much happiness.

theresa.redington 06-17-2011 02:59 AM

If you have any dark blue left for binding, bind it. If not, find some that is close. Good luck. It will be beautiful whatever you do.

NJ Quilter 06-17-2011 03:04 AM

I have a tendency to use the fabric I have used least in the quilt in the border to make it 'pop' more.

Do you have enough of both colors that you could use, alt. for the boarder? I have had to do that sometimes and it comes out pretty cool.

jitkaau 06-17-2011 03:40 AM

How much of the paisley do you have left? That is the next best bet or if you have some of the dark blue left, combine all the left overs into a piano - key type striped border.

pieces 06-17-2011 04:01 AM

I would buy a darker blue, not try to match what you have. Use the darker blue for your border and for your binding.
By going darker you will frame your quilt top.

east side quilter 06-17-2011 04:16 AM

try a med blue in the same color value

I agree - a dark color for at least an inner border stops the action of the quilt, framing it and giving the eye a place to rest. OR you could be bold and go for a dark tone of the color opposite the blue on the color wheel...

It is a beautiful quilt and I can't wait to see the finished product!!!

ruck9085 06-17-2011 04:50 AM

Go to the "Thousands of Bolts" website and look for it. I found some material on there that I purchased over a year ago and they had it, lots of it.

laalaaquilter 06-17-2011 04:58 AM

Go darker with the darkest value in the paisley

ChrisB 06-17-2011 05:05 AM

Beautiful quilt. Perhaps a navy binding?

carla m 06-17-2011 05:53 AM

i was gonna say the same thing a darker blue would be awesome and make the other blues pop out !!

mmlctnp 06-17-2011 06:15 AM

How about Navy blue?

Val in IN 06-17-2011 06:16 AM

I vote for a darker blue, I think it would make it pop. It's a beautiful quilt, what a great wedding gift!
