MrsToastyKoasty 05-25-2011 12:00 PM

I just purchased a mini bow tuck pattern and cant wait till it arrives to make my first one. I planned to suprise my mom with one (she doesnt even know i plan to make one XD) but i also plan to make one for myself... especially since the strap on the current generic purse is hanging on by a thread and this would be a great unique item to have (not to mention self marketing by carrying it with you!).

I was just wondering though if anyone knows how well they stand up to everyday use. If they get tossed around or tugged on that they dont just get worn down after a few weeks?

Thanks!
Kristi W.

I haven't made one yet but has a friend that has been using hers for about 8 months. It still looks great and she stuffs alot of things in it.

I used mine all last summer and washed it a few times just threw it in the washer and dryer It is still like new.

MellieKQuilter 05-25-2011 12:04 PM

I just bought the pattern and my girls picked out their fabric... so I am curious of the responses you get.

boxerlady 05-25-2011 12:15 PM

Been using mine every day since August, it has held up well.

kay carlson 05-25-2011 12:18 PM

I am on the third year of using my first Bow Tucks bag. Purchase quality fabrics and your bag will look like new for a long time to come:)

The structural design is superb...

Pam B 05-25-2011 12:34 PM

I made one last July and carried it the rest of the summer and have it back out again! In fact, have been carrying it for about 2 weeks now. First of all...I am hard on my handbags...I stuff all sorts of things in them and set them down all sorts of places from the floor of my classroom to the floor of my car and even in our barn sometimes. I can tell you...my Bow-tuck is holding up exceptionally well. The only thing I will do differently maybe the next time I make one is maybe use some pel-tex along the inside of the top around it. (Does that make any sense?) I get compliments all the time on my bag!

Grinster 05-25-2011 12:41 PM

Made my Bow Tuck last Spring and am using it again. It holds up very well for everyday use.....and I get lots of compliments:)

blueangel 05-25-2011 12:42 PM

I love bow tucks and carry them everyday. Have been holding up good.

chickadeee55 05-25-2011 12:59 PM

I use mine everyday, I love it. And it looks great.

AngieS 05-25-2011 01:02 PM

Can I ask about how much fabric is needed for one bag? I know there is at least 2 different fabrics used. But was just wondering.... Thanks in advance.

MinnieKat 05-25-2011 01:06 PM

They are very sturdy ... the fusible interfacing makes them strong.

QuiltE 05-25-2011 01:34 PM

All things wear ... and type of fabric you use will determine it's durability. And of course, how much rigorous wear you are giving this thing!

Jennifer22206 05-25-2011 01:35 PM

I actually used mine as a diaper bag. :) I did make it out of home dec fabric.

The one I made out of cotton is holding up just fine after about 6 months (I think that's when I made it)

Patty Patches 05-25-2011 03:04 PM

I made two for myself and ohhhhhh about 15 or 20 for gifts,we all carry them everyday.Wash and wear well.No problems

MrsToastyKoasty 05-25-2011 03:37 PM

Awesome! The responses just make me even more excited to get one made! OOOOH I wish i had the patience to wait for the pattern to arrive! I'm so excited!!! YAYY!

moonwork42029 05-25-2011 05:22 PM

Mine is tossed around and abused pretty much and is holding up well!

coachmatthewsvhs 05-26-2011 03:07 AM

Toddy 05-26-2011 04:07 AM

Thank for the help went and looked at all the pictures. Great little bag. Now where do I get the pattern? Have you seen any on-line shops carring it?

materialgrl 05-26-2011 04:45 AM

Just bought my pattern to,that was a good question as I was wondering the same thing.I am glad to read they hold up well

nab 05-26-2011 04:53 AM

I love mine. I have only been using it for about a month. So far it's holding up great. Have fun.

Blackberry 05-26-2011 04:54 AM

I made one for myself and my sister because I thought they were so, so cute. I have been using mine now for about 10 months and believe me it gets tossed around quite a bit and I still love it and it still looks great. In fact, I still get inquiries about it at different places where I shop. Go for it, you will love it.

I have made 5 of these and I love them. I add a layer of fusible decor bond to mine besides the 987F fusible fleece. It makes it stiffer and not so flimsy looking. I love this pattern!

My daughter and I made my granddaughter a bag a year ago. Had 8 gromets in it. Really cute- tried to find the name of it but can't right now. So made my other granddaughter one for this past Christmas but we changed it so it is really a bow tuck bag. We also made 3 more. One for her and myself and her pastor's wife. Since we were new at it it did take us awhile. If I knew how to post a photo I would do so. Need one of my children to give me lessons.
They are wearing quite well except for the one with the gromets.

dixiechunk 05-26-2011 05:28 AM

Mine is still going strong. With all the layers of fabric and batting I think they are pretty sturdy.

Parrothead 05-26-2011 07:01 AM

Using mine every day. Of course I do not go somewhere every day because if I did I could not sew! Mine is just fine and I get lots of compliments on it.

I made one for my daughter-a teacher-she carries everything in it but the kitchen sink. Gave it to her for Christmas and it is still looking good. She uses it every day. I made it out of Virginia Tech logo fabric from whence she graduated oh so many years ago. She loves it. It is the big one. I think the small versions sell better at bazaars etc.

I made mine last year and I'm STILL carrying it...no wear showing on strap....sometimes carry it for handbag but have, also, used it for Bingo!...the pockets are great for carrying daubers and they are all inside.

Wonnie 05-26-2011 07:27 AM

So sorry....NO idea whatsoever why the supply list kept multiplying!!!!!! See that the last one did have the Pellon on it which is important....

I made one for myself, I use it every day. No problems, other than that I don't usually use larger purses, so I keep loosing things in the bottom ;-)
