I have two DGS's those ages, and I did bricks and mortar for their quilts. I used flannel and a lot of plaids and reds and browns. They both love them

no I use the pinwheel for boys all the time, you can also use boats, fine patch, 16 patch etc, just things that you would not think to girlie, it is hard sometimes to make that choice..LOL.. good luck.. don't think I would make the same as the Daughter's design

The DP4 or DP9 patch blocks would also be great for boy quilts. It all depends on fabric choices if it is to be a girly or boy quilt. With the choice of your fabrics, just about any pattern would work.

For that age, a Turning Twenty would be nice.

cathyvv, your 1st quilt is beautiful, I studied it to find all the different designs that was fun for me to do being a beginner. I wish my 1st quilt would have been that nice.....I wish my quilts now look that good.

I just finished a Skateboard quilt, using the big prints. They are so much fun to make too.

Pinwheels would look really cool with space fabrics.
