What can I do to bribe my husband to rearrange my sewing room this weekend? He's telling me it's not a good idea but I know he just doesn't want to do it. ;-)

sueisallaboutquilts 03-30-2011 06:06 PM

Tell him if he doesn't then you're leaving him lol

On second thought maybe not heehee

Murphy 03-30-2011 06:07 PM

Try, Please respect my ideas and give me a hand. I would greatly appreciate it.

cdobbert40 03-30-2011 06:08 PM

Sexual Bribes usually work for me.

Karen's Kreations 03-30-2011 06:08 PM

I've found that if I start that kind of project myself he usually guilts himself into helping.

sueisallaboutquilts 03-30-2011 06:09 PM

I just read this to my husband ( I've got the giggles tonite) and he said tell your husband " the sooner he does it the better, then he can get it out of his mind"
I think my husband knows why lol

janRN 03-30-2011 06:09 PM

Tell him you found 4 young hunks that are coming to help you and you need his credit card to pay them.

Grammy o'5 03-30-2011 06:10 PM

i figured out recently that I can bribe my DH by promising to give him a back rub.
So, if you know there's something he really likes that you don't do very often, maybe you can bribe him with that.
Back rub, favorite meal, favorite dessert ... help him do something he wants to do ... or go somewhere with him that he wants to go that you're not really thrilled with ... ;) ;)

Hilarious!!!!

My hubby works for Pineapple Upside Down Cake. If I don't feel like making it, I just start moving things around myself and he usually comes running. If he doesn't--I get the kids to help me and that will definitely get his attention.

Scrap Happy 03-30-2011 06:16 PM

I just asked my DH (who would happily help me in my sewing room) for thoughts on this. His suggestion is go out to your garage, get a hammer, get a saw bring in a few pieces of wood and ask him where the nails are. He should be glad to help per my DH.

Ditto here. His ex-wife gave me a "Graham 101" primer. She said start a project, get far enough along that it now has to be finished, then just stand there and scratch your head. Within seconds Graham will be there ... usually saying "why didn't you just ask!". It won't work if I just buy paint - I actually have to START painting.

Judie 03-30-2011 06:21 PM

too funny.. some men are so hard to bribe.. but they usually all have their their price, for most things. If I can't get help by asking, then bribing, then I do it myself. whatever way it has to happen, it happens..

goosepoint 03-30-2011 06:24 PM

I love Scrap Happy's answer -

QuiltnNan 03-30-2011 06:35 PM

does he like apple pie and are you a baker?

lsb142 03-30-2011 06:35 PM

Great ideas everyone. Maybe I'll just read all these ideas to him and let him take his pick.

Lost his car keys in there, tell him you just don't know how it happened. Then make him move the machine so you can look behind, nope, no keys. Put that machine over there. Maybe they fell behind that bookcase...You get the idea.
My sewing area is in the basement and I have to deal with cobwebs in the rafters and behind things. I am so creeped out by these and hate to clean them up. When I want my son to use the shop vac on them, I hide dollar bills around the room and when he sweeps he gets what he finds.

Good luck. Let us know how this goes.

Maggiesmom 03-30-2011 06:50 PM

Let him buy a sports car. That's what I did.

SimpleCook29 03-30-2011 06:54 PM

i use sexual bribes and I tell him he gets a free weekend to do whatever he wants.. weekend of working on his truck or going fishing/hunting.. or whatever..

LOL! That ought to work!

Always In Stitches 03-30-2011 07:01 PM

I would tell my DH we can go to a team roping and I will do the driving if he'll jump the horses in the trailor. He loves to team rope! Actually he lives to please me, He understands the ,"I'm broken and need help to get myself fixed back up"concept. Plus he is a firm believer in Dr.Phills idea that when he gets up in the morning he askes himself ,"what can I do today to make my wifes life better today"! He's a good man. I love him so much!

Bottle Blonde 03-30-2011 07:01 PM

My hubby wants me to learn to play golf ---- yuck! So everytime I go with him to the driving range he has to go with me to shop for fabric! LOL He must take me to a quilt show for every round of golf I play on the course with him! I figure one quilt show and that will be the end of my golfing! He even went so far as to buy me a beginners set of clubs......I threatened to buy a sewing machine for him!

I usually just start a project myself and then act helpless ---- he always thinks he is coming to my rescue and saves the day because I am such a ding-a-ling. Ha Ha --- he falls for the oldest trick in a wife's book every time --- who is the ding-a-ling!?

Laneyhod 03-30-2011 07:07 PM

Usually if I get the tools out and "look" like I'm going to do something, my hubby knows it is easier to do it himself than to undo what I messed up and then do it right. Works for me.

All I have to do is get out the electric drill and ask him where the stud finder is (wall studs, not hunky studs).

Always In Stitches 03-30-2011 07:08 PM

I had to learn to golf too. I hated it until we started to bet on the 7th hole and the bets got better and better! I think he lost that 7th hole so it was more fun for me.. I will not tell what our bets were for... ;)

moonwork42029 03-30-2011 07:15 PM

I must be strange... I'd rather do it slowly by myself so it's like I want it instead of listening to him ask why, what, where, how, when...

Why do you have so much stuff in here
What do you think you're doing with that (saw, hammer, wood)
Where in the world is the floor
How do you find anything
When was the last time you saw the desktop

Get my drift?

I am lucky. My husband offers to help me clean my sewing room and do the household chores. Except for today, I went to use my vacuum cleaner and I plugged it in and proceeded to vacuum..and all of a sudden I saw smoke coming out of it.
I yell to my husband who was upstairs "I think I just burned up the vacuum" he yells back "NO YOU DIDNT" how the heck does he know "It didn"t and it's not smoking?" he was upstairs. So I kindly asked him if he would take it apart and see if the belt is broken. He flat out told me NO you do it. Man was I surprised. I did it. And the whole time I am trying to stretch that stupid belt to reach around that thing that sticks out, Im bit** I mean complaining how he should be doing it and not me. So, I FINALLY get it on and am putting that thing back together and he comes over and says "here give it to me, I will fix it!!!" I told him No honey thats okay I ALREADY did it...and you know that jello you wanted me to make you? Welll MAKE IT YOURSELF!!

booklady 03-30-2011 07:30 PM

Tell him you won't have time to cook lunch for him because you'll be moving your sewing room. Then tell him you won't be able to cook dinner because you'll be too tired and sore from all the moving. Get the drift? This could last for several days!

How can my husband get back and forth from your house to South Carolina so fast.

LOL... He's usually really good about doing things, but some things I'd rather do it myself. I know the "flow" of things and he will put things where they "fit".

But...after Christmas, admittedly (hanging head in shame), the above questions would be valid

Aurora 03-31-2011 01:25 AM

I always just did it myself. My husband was one of those that was always in the way and never of any assistance. So, it was just easier and quicker to do it myself.
