Our little quilt shop has tons of "fancy" buttons that look like gold, pearls, etc., for about .10 each. Also check out homesew.com., they used to have all kinds of buttons very reasonably priced.

Can I come to your city? Sounds like what I am looking for. Not sure if anyone else is like me but I needed some buttons this weekend so I am looking past the time I shoulda, woulda, coulda...

The homesew.com is a wonderful site. Just what I wanted. Everyone has such good ideas. I knew the board was the place to go for answers. Thank you. :-D

BTW BellaBoo, they didn't have a realistic mother chick chicken button. But I will let you know if I run across one.

I have bought several little bags of nice buttons at www.buttonsgaloreandmore.com

You can get on their mailing list and they send out sales about every 6 weeks or so. Fun buttons.

Hobby Lobby sells them in a tube for a great price - especially when you use a coupon!

Also sometimes you can score a ton on ebay, Oriental Trading, thrift stores, Craigslist...

I remember getting them in a 1 pound bag at AC Moore as well. I'm sure Michaels and the other craft stores sell them like that too - by the pound.

I've been lucky that my mother volunteers at a rummage sale and has scored me bags of buttons... I don't think I'll need another button (unless it is a novelty one) for a long time!

Thanks you guys for that info. I am a button fantic.

Wow, I need to keep saying thank you. Great ideas. I have tried craigslist (my DH and my favorite resource!) and a few other ideas but keep them coming because I am sure others want to know to.

I am going to try to catch estate sales (although I have only been to one, years ago).

I have used homesew.com since before it was .com! Good suggestion. I have also seen some good deals on buttons at my Dollar Tree...if you have those. Actually sorry for you if you do not as you can luck on to some neat things there among the junk.
