I got a coffee mug, rubber-banded a dowel rod to it, then attached a large safety pin to the top using a big thumb tack. The pin is attached at the end that opens, and the thread runs through the loop at the end. It works perfectly, and since I already had everything on-hand, it didn't cost a dime! :)

Hi, I saw something somewhere where you can take a coffee cup and put the thread in it and they said it works well. Also a Singer salesman told me to get a piece of wood for the botton square or round and drill a hole big enough to fit a dowel rod in the hole and that will also fit your thread and then near the top screw in a small cupholder screw or one of those little round ones that screw in and put it on the side of the dowel rod and he said it costs a lot less. This works for me too

i drop my large spools into an old mayonaise jar, then thread as usual....anything tat wouldn't tip over would work.

Someone on another thread suggested putting the thread in a quart wide mouth canning jar behind the machine, says it works well.

I have thread from Connecting Threads also and got a straw from a hamburger place, cut it off and put over the thread holder, works really well.
