Only get one with arms if they are adjustable and you can lower them. I personally like arms for support since I had hand surgery many years ago. It helps with the position of my hands. I hope he will let you help pick out the one that works best for you.

Definitely go with him to try it out. Only you can determine if it fits you properly.

It depends on the height of your table. I have one with arms, but I don't really use them while sewing. Also, having arms on it means that you have to turn all the way out to get up (say, to press your seams). If I had a choice, I'd get one without arms. The wheels, though, and the cushi-ness of office chairs, makes sewing so much more comfortable. Make sure you get one where the seat rotates independently of the wheel base (I've only seen a couple of chairs that don't have that, but better to make sure!). Happy birthday!

if you have a chance, check out a bungee chair - made with bungee cords on seat and back - really comfortable - I have two and love them both....but to answer your question, no arms, as most others have said.

without, I agree arms would get in the way

No arms, definitely. I just bought a Koala chair and I love it. Adjusts every which way and it's really comfortable. Slides around with no problem. If it's in your budget, it's worth a look...

No, don't bother with the arms, you won't need them. Mine have no arms and they work great. I bought mine from thrift stores.

NO ARMS! Though most of the good quality office chairs come with arms. I chose to assemble my chair so I just didn't install the arms or if the chair comes assembled, make sure you can easily remove the arms. Hope you have a happy birthday!

Don't buy it from Walmart!! Get a good quality chair...sturdy, that won't fall apart.

No arms and adjustable height, with wheels and good back support. Right now I have an antique dinning room chair on wheels but it doesn't have the height adjustment. I have a good office chair but it has arms, and is pretty big for my small room. I have a chair mat on my carpet to make it easy to move around. I'd go to a office supply store or maybe a few and sit and try them out. Happy Birthday
