A challenge
1 Attachment(s)
This is a reusable shopping bag, with printing on both sides. Our group was challenged to cover the printing, thereby decorating the bag. It is somewhat of a contest. This is what I came up with; the little bow is just being auditioned to see how it would look. The plan would be to place a little bow at the base of the handles.
Still, it feels like it needs a little something more. Any suggestions? |
This is a lovely job. In the past, I have done something similar but they were on bags made from rough hessian that needed to be disguised so it didn't scratch your legs. I love your folded diamonds.

Very nice! Looks good to me the way it is!
I love this!!
A few years ago when these reusable bags were fairly new, our guild had a "decorate the bag" challenge for our Kroger brand shopping bags. The challenge was such a hit that Kroger began noticing them in the stores and finally asked about them. The manager of one store asked the guild to display them all in his store where they could be voted on for a customer favorite! We were thrilled to share and the winner received a little gift from the store. Maybe your group can do the same. :) Jan in VA |
I think giant yellow buttons would look better than the little bows. The bows don't really add much and they don't really tie in to your really cool folded hexes.
What a great idea, I love your bag. You do beautiful work.
I Love your bag, and I love the diamond pattern you did.
Now I have a question How do you make those diamonds? |
Oh Jan that sounds like such an Awesome idea.

I was thinking big chunky buttons in pink , making it look as if they were holding the handles.
Beautiful!!! I "see" a pink frame around it, with ribbons running up along the centers of the handles, connecting the frame and handles (the frame hanging from the ribboned handles).

Lose the bow...but place a button on each handle.
Really nice job. |

The diamond pattern is something like origami. If there is any interest, I could create a tutorial. Y'all just let me know.

This is so lovely, I adore the pattern... good going :)
How about some green fabric posing as stems, coming from the center flower out to the others?
I agree with the others about the bows, they just don't match the pretty diamonds. For the handles, you could carry the diamond theme and make smaller diamonds, maybe two, with a smaller button in the middle, sort of a mistletoe look. Maybe yellow diamonds with pink buttons. |

I love your bag! Please do a tut. I would love to do this on my reusable bags as well. I also thi k the small bow is not adding that little touch you are looking for.
P.S. Just read your blog and loved it!!! Is the pdf for the little turtle still available?
love that bag!!! And yes on a tute for the folded flowers!!
I'm thinking some viney type embroidery or free motion stitching around the outside, in a bright green. I also like the idea of big buttons ... yellow, pink, or perhaps a combination. Some kind of "fun" button ... big old chunky one. I've got an Eleanor Burns tote with a big old picture of her face on the bag ... tacky ... I never thought of "covering" her face!! I've got a few other bags that would benefit from prettying up! |

Very pretty. I prefer buttons instead of the bows.

Would love a tutorial!
I vote for the yellow buttons at the straps and maybe a pink strip on the handles, the rest is beautiful, the ribbons don't add anything for me. And please do a tut for the diamonds, I'm crazy for 3D blocks, have made the bow ties and pinwheels, would love to try diamonds.
I love the bag and I too would love a tutorial.

Love the bag, but would remove the bows.
Our guild did these as a service project for a domestic assault center where women who come in with only the clothes they are wearing are given a change of clothes and personal items. These items were usually given to them in a plastic bag. We donated decorated bags to use such as these. Stores in the area donated the shopping bags for us to decorate. I have decorated these reusable shopping bags from grocery stores for myself and to give as gifts but turn my quilt block into a pocket to be added to each side of the bag. This gives some extra places to put things.
I'm confused. There is a posting that says the tutorial is now in place but I couldn't find it. Please advise where to go to find it. Thanks
I found the tutorial. Thanks. I'll be giving this a try.
I like your hexes but not the bow. How about some larger yellow buttons.
