I'm trying to make some swap blocks that are 12.5 inches. I have two started. The charms I bought are batik. My partner for the swap wants batik. So , I thought ...COOL! I have charms. I was trying to something besides a 9 patch or DP9 block. FRUSTRATED NEWBIE>>>>> :?

What happened? Why are you sorry?

Finished two blocks that look awesome , but they are not 12.5 inches .

Some easy patterns that you might try are scrappy: shoofly, broken dishes, pinwheels, prairie queen. You might like the outcome if you choose a background color, like cream or white on white, to use and then pull from the charms for everything else. Have you looked thru quilterscache? They have tons of blocks to look at. You can even search thru by size. Good luck! You can do it!

I will look those up ASAP! Thanks!

Well, let's see. I'm assuming you have 5" charms. You could cut them into four smaller squares of 2.5" so they finish at 2", and you could go scrappy with six squares across and six down and alternate with black, which usually makes batiks pop.

Give it some time, some design idea will come to you!

Still not sure why your blocks are not measuring correctly. Did you start with a block that should measure 12.5", but you're coming up short? In that case it could be the 1/4" seam allowance that is the problem. Or do you have a block that measures something other than 12.5" and you want to convert it? More information is needed.
