Folded Hexagon ornaments
 

This makes a nice ornament. I taught this to my quilter club and most found it very easy to do. Here is the page for the links to the tutorials.

I made 2 and sewed them back to back with buttons in the center on both sides

I like to do counted cross stitch quilt blocks on aida cloth then sew together, stuff and pull a fringe. Usually do Christmas colors for the patterns. If you start today, you'll not use up all the block ideas in your lifetime.

Two cathedral window squares joined together at the sides and the bottom with a ribbon attached on the top make a cute hanging pocket, and you can fussy cut the inserted fabric to make them different and personalized for everyone.

I like to make folded star ornaments. I'm sure the instructions will be easily found on the net.

This past week I ran across an idea to make Christmas ornaments with Christmas fabric scraps cut into somewhat small pieces and decoupaged on clear glass ornaments. I am planning to precut scraps and help my DGKs make some next week. When they are done I will sprinkle them with glitter, put the little metal top back in place and tie a ribbon to hang them with. Unfortunately, I cannot relocate that idea. It was a wonderful quilt shop that gave lots of ideas.

My son and i always did this.
Take a clothspin pull it apart you need two, put tog flat side tog ant pointy side up for antlers glue on eye and a sparkly red pompom nose.
make sleds out of tounge depressors.
Felt stufffed stars with name emb. On them

Mini teddy bears, mittens stockings, all with names. Orgami fabic.
cut fabs into 2" zuares, poke into stryofoam balls...really cute, in fa orite or school colors.

I have yet to do quilted ornaments but I do embroidered ornaments. I use felt, cut a shape, pick a design specific to each child;ie, sport they play, special interest they have, etc. and embroider it on the felt. I add their name and the year. I sew the embroidered felt to a matching felt back, stuff it and put a ribbon trim hanger on it. They love them.

I use to just find an ornament, put their name on them and the date. I started the felt ornaments 2 years ago and one DIL told me later that she wanted the same type of ornament every year for them!! The older kids are impressed that Nana/Moms actually made them!! I do something similar for my nieces/nephews.

I might think of a way to add a quilty piece to them this year!!

I do something a little different, we have a family craft night where we make our own ornaments each year. We've made foam nutcrackers, cinnamon snowflakes, beaded candy canes, etc. We put our name and the year somewhere on each one. When my kids are grown and gone, they will have a collection of ornaments they've made over the years to decorate their own trees with. I have ornaments that my mother and grandmother made when my mom was a child.

One year we did one that turned out so disastrously, it's become comic legend in our family! Let's just say glue and glitter were involved, and I was worried that Bart Simpson would make a huge mess, but it turned out that Homer was the one I had to worry about!
