Christmas, planned?

I just wrote my schedule & deadlines for my crafty must-get-dones from now until the end of the year...

14 quilts, ranging in size from approx 15 inches square to full size.
&
1 play cloak!

what are you working on from now until Christmas?

LivelyLady 10-05-2012 02:18 PM

I'm working on handbags for friends, cafe curtains (coffee themed), potholders, and table topper for my DGD. I'm just have to FMQ my own table topper for Christmas. As all family members have quilts, I will be able to spend time trying Zentangles from Zen-Sational Stitches for Quilting.

lynnie 10-05-2012 02:28 PM

Pam H 10-05-2012 02:29 PM

I may make a table topper or 2 for Christmas gifts. At the moment I am working on Celtic blocks for an exchange. I need 12 identical blocks done by the end of October. After those I want to make some bibs and burp rags for my first grandchild due in February. I also need to make an applique wall hanging for the nursery.

SewExtremeSeams 10-05-2012 02:30 PM

Just made a list of all the things I need to get done just in the next few weeks and didn't even get to all the quilts I want to get done by Christmas. Have to give an answer later. There is a play cloak in my 'want to get done' list but it is more of a princess cape with jewels. The design is floating in my head. I have an almost 5 year old princess DGD. Ooops, and I already purchased an 18" doll (Abby) for her December birthday. OF COURSE, I have been collecting a ton of patterns to make her Abby outfits. MMM... lots to do:D

LadyElisabeth 10-05-2012 03:19 PM

Car trash bags? What a good idea. Can someone post a link or picture ,please?

mucky 10-05-2012 03:44 PM

Yes I'd love to have a link on the car trash bags too.

I have been working on items for Secret SANTA and the ornament exchange..Also crocheted a penguin doll for my daughter that collects them..Made 2 table runner and hot pad sets for married children and have 2 more to go...I would like to make the pajama eaters for the younger grandkidecoms..Also making purses for a craft show..I am sure the ones left will become Christmas gifts. Once I get all these done, I will hopefully have time to get some other things done...Time will run out before we know it!!

ncsewer 10-05-2012 03:52 PM

I think you better get busy!!!!

I made car trash bags for Christmas presents. This is the link to the ones I made.

I think they took me about 1/2 each. I got 2 bags from 2 fat quarters. They make up really quickly especially when you chain piece.

lynnie 10-05-2012 05:25 PM

Wow...to bad i didnt see that.
I square ottomed my bag, and put a trim around the top
i made it like the thread catcher bag

Finish Princess Ina's castles quilt for her castle bedroom. Center block courtesy of the fabulous Robert; pattern "Castles" by Sindy R. Still needs to be basted, quilted and bound.

here is a close up of the gorgeous center block:

Little brother Des gets "Night Trains" from Rebecca Ruth's pattern. Ina says his favorite color is blue. This one is basted but still needs quilting and binding.

Pat625 10-05-2012 08:40 PM

I love the trash bag for the car..But with my sloppy kids I would line it with PLU that they make for diaper covers, so it can be washed and wiped out from sticky stuff...I made reusable snack bags for the grandsons for their school snacks, adn my DIL says the PLU makes it real easy to keep it clean. Jonannes has it..I bought the solid white, since most of it is baby prints

kitsykeel 10-05-2012 08:56 PM

I am working on wall hangings and table runners mostly. May do a few pillows and would love to get my DSIL's quilt done (started it three years ago.) Today am working on a Halloween wall hanging.

donac 10-05-2012 09:33 PM

I am working on lapquilts. I up in the middle of the night thinking about squares. Dh is gone for the weekend so I can sew all days tomorrow.

luana 10-06-2012 03:32 AM

Well I'm trying to get a table runner done for Thanksgiving. Guess I'd better start thinking about Christmas.

Tothill 10-06-2012 07:37 AM

Wow I am impressed with everything some of you plan to accomplish before the end of the year.

My plans are much more modest. I will be making the tissue holders for teachers and co-workers. If I have time I will be making table runners for Mum and my mil. That is it.

If I had more time I would make seasonal place mats for my nieces and nephew, but I think I will run out of time.

Today I am shopping for my Secret Santa gift. I will also be making her a little something, but I am not revealing that here.

I work full time, so do not have a lot of time available to make things.

OMG! I've got all sorts of stuff going-----------but it's all more "stocking stuffer" rather than main gift.

GrannieAnnie 10-06-2012 07:43 AM

I love Princess Ina's quilt and the trains are soooooooo cute, too. Great work.

joyce blint 10-06-2012 12:25 PM

I've been asked to make a chef's hat and apron...with his Chef XXX embroidered on it......for a 1 yr old. Anything past that (quilted) will be voluntary and for fun!

GrandmaNewt 10-06-2012 12:59 PM

I have planned 1 King sized quilt for a friend that doesn't celebrate Christmas because he is Jewish. It will be a Hanukka/birthday (Jan. 2nd) present that will prob be done around Christmas time. I also have a lot of PUL scraps from making my grandbaby's cloth diapers that I will probably be making into reusuable sandwich and snack bags for the school age grandkids.

Thats about it along with all the cookie and candy making type stuff that I tend to do around the holidays.

Edited to add: The neighbors that live a few doors down just got married last St. Pats day. I saved their wedding invite which is of course done on white paper with green lettering. I want to make them a Christmas ornament that looks like this http://christyrobbins.blogspot.com/2...-ornament.html

vkasal 10-07-2012 03:16 AM

Right now I'm working on items to sell at my craft shows in November. Just finished about 30 tissue holders, and now will move on to some scarves. I'm also painting items as well so I'm going back and forth between sewing and painting things. After my craft shows are over, I have to make my son a quilt for Christmas (along with matching pillowcases and a curtain), finish my hubby's quilt and a wall hanging for my daughter.

mjsylvstr 10-07-2012 03:19 AM

I am working on the Christmas Flag quilt featured in the Quilters' newletter mag. Patterns for three blocks appear each week are on the internet and will continue until 11/5. (This began on 7/2)

I do believe that it will be Christmas 2013..or perhaps 2014!!!!

lots & lots of pieces as it is PPing and there are hundreds of pieces to the patterns..but I will say....

IT IS A CHALLENGE .............

WoW! Christy Robbins' blog is chock full of great, inexpensive and very creative ideas. Thanks for posting her blog!

I have on table runner finished, working on the next, once I get the metallic thread working I should be done with that one pretty quickly. Then I still have 2 more quilts to do. One I am working on now, until I can figure out the metallic issue. THen to find the fabric for the other one and get started.

chamby 10-07-2012 05:00 AM

Have one quilt done working on another, then have one to quilt, stockings, ornaments, wall hanging, etc. I already feel like I am behind. Time is moving too fast lately.

BellaBoo 10-07-2012 07:08 AM

I have two quilts to make but I didn't promise them, no one knows I am planning to make them as gifts so if I get done fine if not I already have bought back up gifts. The quilts will become birthday gifts. I made swap ornaments in July so those are done for the ornament exchanges I'm belong to. I finished my Secret Santa gifts thanks to the vendor booths at the last quilt show I went to. I bought fat quarter towers for my donation to the guild's silent auction table. All the guild members have the same projects and patterns I have so making something would be mostly duplicates. Who doesn't want a big stack of fat quarters?

Jakers1 10-07-2012 07:11 AM

I have finished a quilt top for my brother that needs borders and quilting. I am also making a wall hanging for a girfriend - first time paper piecing. I have one more quilt to begin and finish, along with a few pot holders and mug rugs. I usually only do sewing in my class until I get my sewing room done - whenever that is! It is painted and I am putting in carpeting now, then furniture. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can be ready to sew at home and get some of this stuff done. I have already finished several dishclothes for gifts (knitted). And I thought I was ambitious!

alwayslearning 10-07-2012 08:19 AM

I am currently quilting the lap quilt I made for my husband last Christmas. How bad am I? I kind of tucked it away until the holidays were over, and it stayed tucked.

judykay 10-07-2012 08:50 AM

I just finished a table topper for me and have another one cut out, I know how dare I do something for me. I also have two doll quilts done and a few more in the works for a lqs that sponsors a Christmas party for children of the community that would not otherwise have a Christmas. I also want to embroidery a wine themed kitchen towel for a friend. I usually make more Christmas gifts but this year I have not made any as I have found good deals on things I think they will like so this year my friends are getting purchased gifts which leaves me some time to do the charity doll quilts. Now all I need to do is turn off my computer so I am not tempted to keep coming back to the board.

romanojg 10-07-2012 10:04 AM

Right now I'm finishing my embroidery projects and a Halloween quilt for my DGS's first party. Then it's back to Christmas, I'm working on a couple of reversible tablerunners and a reversible tablecloth that is almost quilted and needs to be bound.
On my embroidery machine I"m making:
"Paper" dolls with carrying case (made from fabric)
A couple of small quilts
Doilies
table runners
A 3 fold or section carrying case for little kids that has a section for crayons, one for a tablet and pen and another one for whatever. Its so cute.
A stained glass nativity wall hanging (design from emblibrary.com)
A mesh beachbag
An organizer set that has cutwork roses lace that includes a TP holder, an organizer, a Checkbook cover and eyeglass case.
Embroideried TP for decoration; plus more decorations as they come to me.
Potholders
In case you couldn't tell; I'm addicted to my embroidery machine and the more I learn the more I want to do. I love it because I can set the machine up and other than stopping for thread changes I can let it go while I do other things. Right now I have it setup in my front entry way so that no matter where I am I can hear it stop and get it going pretty fast.
I also want to make some clothes.
Plus I'm trying to finish up WIP to start the yr on a clean slate.

It does; and you don't use it, it's just for decoration and it is really pretty.

I have almost completed four quilts for friends ... I am binding three, then they're finished. I just took the fifth one to quilt shop to get the quilted. Got to come up with easy gifts for four friends. This year I started the first quilt in January, so I should be finished by end of October. So much fun!

Can you tell me where I can find a pattern for this? Thought I had one saved but I can't find it now.

deedum 10-07-2012 04:57 PM

I have made some lovely pillowcases and set aside, oh so fun!
I Made two crocheted "cascade" scarves today and two more to go for my DIL'S and friends.
I plan to make some pajamas for our grandchildren this week for Christmas gifts
Need to make an IPAD pillow yet.
Got a Christmas lap quilt ready to be quilted. That is it so far.

jcrow 10-07-2012 05:47 PM

All I have to do is bind 9 quilts and I'm ready for Christmas. BUT I do not like binding one little bit. I just went in my sewing room and picked out the binding for one of the quilts and laid it on the cutting table and put my ruler on top of it. That's as far as I got today. That's how much I don't like binding. I'm going to machine bind every single one of them and I still can't get myself excited to start. Dang it! What's the trick? I know it's the last step, but it's my least favorite.

misschrisfrmtx 10-07-2012 06:22 PM

I am so impressed with all of you! Everyone is soooooo busy!

Sewnoma 10-07-2012 06:35 PM

I have 11 quilts to make before Christmas; 7 are completely finished, 3 are roughly half done, and one last one still needs to be started.

Today I spent some time sewing simple drawstring bags for each quilt, that's what I'm going to "wrap" them in. Each bag is different and coordinates (to some degree) with the quilt that will be inside it. Those were a fun easy project to make and the best part is they each only cost me $1.50 in fabric! I only picked $3/yard fabrics from Joann's Red Tag table, which are all half off right now, each bag uses 1 yard of fabric. At that price, it'd be hard to wrap the quilts for less, and everybody will have fabric drawstring bags to reuse!
