My sewing room is pale yellow with white trim and accessories are red and sage green. This color brightens the room and is not as stark as white and reflects the sunshine. Is your room near the sun and is there windows? This can make a difference if you are picking a color? I vote for yellow, egg shell or light biege. You can accsorize with color curtains and such. :D

My sewing room is part wood paneling and part wallpaper (which is tan, brown, yellow, blue and white flowers). I would REALLY like to change it to a nice soothing off white....

My sewing room in my livingroom. We rent also so mine is an eggshell white. But it's not like I am able to hang anything up, I have 2 kittens!

Oklahoma Suzie 08-06-2009 02:41 PM

My sewing room is off white. I put other items in that are purple (my fave color) so I'm not too board.

MadQuilter 08-06-2009 03:49 PM

I just remembered that my first attempt at sewing room decor was PINK walls with a bird wallpaper. DH said it looked like a flamingo exploded. I thought it would be soothing - NOT!

Check out well known quilter Freddy Moran's studio, it's bright yellow! It's in her and Gwen Marston's book, Collaborative Quilting (one of my favorite books, by the way.)

Dizzy, Where are you in Arkansas? I'm South east of Fayetteville.

Hi, My sewing room is a very bright coral and blue. the reason I painted it that way is because I detest all white rooms and coral is on 3 walls, blue on the one behind the quilting machine. I have to lang prints on that wall because it is really in excessable but I can look up from thesewing machine and see happy colors. My feeling is do what makes you happy.

penski 08-06-2009 08:53 PM

you guys are all great thank you for responding i went to the hardware store and bought the same brand paint but white and i am going to mix some of it with my yellow to tone it down to a butter yellow i think i might like better than bright yellow

thanks again

I, too, have the brown paneling. As my eyes age  , I find that I need more light. Will soon need to be investing in better lighting.

I agree, go with your pretty yellow. You can always leave 1 design wall white if you want or just put up a long curtain rail from which to hand a white flannel design wall to arrange your colours on.

Carol -- I just LOVE your sewing room..... :D

GailG 08-10-2009 05:55 AM

Carol, your sewing room is awesome -- AND SO CLEAN. But have I missed something? Where is the fabric? Can is be that it's all hidden?

azam 08-10-2009 08:57 AM

My room is a bright and cheery yellow with beige carpet. I spend a lot of time in there and I love the color. I think that you should paint it the color that makes you happy! :D It's your room :!:

craftiladi 01-04-2010 03:30 PM

Nice room...love your idea for storing your thread.
My walls are beige but the rm is decorated in blue, red, yellow and black.
opps I meant to include a pic...

Oklahoma Suzie 01-04-2010 03:32 PM

Mine is off white, but I put other things in to brighten it up.

sdparent 01-04-2010 03:36 PM

My sewing room is sage green with a border that looks like quilted blocks, oak floors (this is because I hate the thought of getting a pin stuck in the carpet to step on) and natural pine trim.

Mine is a shrimpy-orangy color with a white ceiling and soon to have a quilt block tile floor (using the colors in my curtains) with orange being the main color.

mine are painted "giggles" (which is a lavender...)

craftiladi 01-05-2010 06:37 AM

Billy love the lay out of your sewing room and the color is very energizing. Are we going to see more from your rm?

I always take my fabrics to natural sunlight when picking the colors. Generally that means outside for the final decision. Therefore, the color of my room doesn't matter. It's off-white since we rent. Our apartment is partially underground, so it's like a dungeon in the living and dining rooms as there's no sun on that side of the building. Lots of trees close to the building.

I'd make the room a color you feel good in. If that's sunny yellow go for it.

BellaBoo 01-05-2010 07:19 AM

I chose a very creamy sand color because I liked it. That was the only rule I followed when choosing a paint color.

I love color too but when we built my room this past spring I painted it mellow so I could see the real colors.

SherryLea 01-05-2010 08:57 AM

I just repainted my sewing room and because blue is my favorite color I had the walls painted light blue. I love it and if it has interfeared with my seeing the true color of my projects I sure haven't noticed it. I love the room and spend a lot of time in it. So I agree with everyone else use the color you are comfortable with and if bright yellow is what you like use it. We need to make our rooms a place where we feel good in and happy in.

Lostn51 01-05-2010 10:48 AM

Mine would have been Yellow but I had 3 gallons of this color laying around after I restored my home. This was going to be the color of my sunroom but my wife didn't like it after we had it mixed.

At first I didn't think much about the color but I like it now since I have been spending more time in there. I cant wait till I have the addition done so I can lay the quilt block floor using purple, yellow, red, and the focus color orange.

The floor will be an Ohio block when its done.

Three wall are yellow and one is yellow with white stripes. These colors were on the wall when we bought it. I have two boys and the rest of the house is done in browns and reds. It is nice to have a bright room to sew in. A girly room. Perhaps think about the rest of your house and since this will be your room what color would make it special and unique to you.

Caroltee, tell me about your EM!! I want to buy one in the future.

Our house was built in 1940 and we converted a bedroom into our sewing room. All four walls are Monterey Paneling that we lightly white washed to lighten up the room.

Yikes... I painted my sewing room yellow and my fabric/spare bedroom (where my long-arm is going) a bright blue. Now I read this thread. Lovely. (I just wanted cheerful rooms to sew and quilt in.) I have so much natural light in my sewing room that I didn't think about the color impacting my fabrics. Hmmm.
