I loved seeing everyone's work. I got a good start on a red and white log cabin. I will post pictures when I get a few more rounds done.

irishrose 05-20-2012 03:57 PM

meanmom, 114 pieces in one block! As a relatively new quilter, that totally blows my mind. My hat is off to you and anyone else who does that kind of work.

All sandwiched and ready to quilt. The first stitch is always the hardest. I've already changed my mind on thread colors. The red varigated should do the top, but I had to switch to a yellow for the back. Okay, off to draw a few flowers to imprint what I want on my brain so I don't have to mark the quilt. I still haven't decided on the 9 patches. I may just meander my way to the next flower. Had my nap and dinner, just dogs to walk yet, but we are waiting until it cools off so it's back to the machine.

mdall 05-20-2012 04:05 PM

okay, watched several videos on binding and even though it was on my to do list for today im tired and brain is fried. gonna start the binding first thing in the morning after kids and dh are out of here off to school and work then there will be no distractions to get me frustrated from starting and stopping so i think im gonna change goal #4 to catching up on BOM, im two months behind and then ill see what time it is then. should be able to finish last load of laundry, get kids off to bed, do a little flight of the bumblebee to tidy up for the evening and still get at least one more sewing things done. so off to find the patterns for my BOM.

SouthPStitches 05-20-2012 04:11 PM

I got a very late start, not until after noon. Spent the a.m. while it was still cool, changing the bed, hanging laundry, unloading the dishwasher, making pasta salad, etc. That being said, I cut out a lap quilt and have the twelve blocks completed. Super simple Pieced Tree pattern called Fat 1/4 Favorite, using limes and turquoise. It was a no-brainer but just what I needed on a rare hot day in central New York. Will post the pic when it's done. Might just call the lap "Chill Out". Looking forward to our next virtual quilt day!

1 1/2 borders left to go. But dang it's hot here, and this quilt is big. I'm taking a break between every 2 strips at this point, but I still hope to finish this today. Just have to complete the outer blue border, and add a wide cream border to finish it off.

What a great idea...the virtual quilting sessions. I got lots done today, but did not really finish any one project. Knowing that I was part of a very supportive group kept me focused and not really distracted by other things. If it does rain next Sunday I will join you, but if it is a nice day I'm going to a dog show to watch one of my puppies.

Thanks for a fun day.

Just have to say that your quilt top is awesome!!

My personal update... I got caught up in running errands and couldn't start my "bag" but I did start a square for the BOM I am doing on this board. I wanted to do something different for the center so I tried fabric folding. I have two books and the pictures in them are gorgeous but the directions are a bit challenging to follow and I have come to the conclusion that I just don't like the process. It wasn't fun. I tried several different ones but it was not enjoyable for me. I did finish the one fabric folded flower that I will use on my BOM.

Sewmazie 05-20-2012 04:55 PM

I love the quilt! Today I drafted my first block for a pictorial quilt. Using the lessons from Quilter's University I was able to add columns and an arch to my design. Tonight I'm working on an appliqué block. Great idea virtual quilting!

Gee, I didn't get a whole lot done like I have wanted. I did make two of these little fabric pots, does that count? I might get a tad bit of sewing in yet tonite. This is a neat thread, great to see what others has accomplished and posted!

gramajo 05-20-2012 05:27 PM

Just got back from DD's. The quilt is layered! I may start quilting it tonight, but I'm getting tired (I've been up since 4am) & don't want to mess up. I don't quilt that well, even when I'm not tired. I'll try to post pictures of the top and back tomorrow.

Loved all the pictures.

nancia 05-20-2012 05:47 PM

hope to quilt-- are you using the quiltagami books? i can't make head nor tails of those directions. i would like to write to the author and complain. i can't imagine anyone who has the ability to figure them out. steps are missing. imho!!

beatys9 05-20-2012 05:59 PM

Ok. It's starting to get dark here & I'm finally sitting down to sew... the day didn't work out quite how I planned it. Oh well. I'm pulling out a disapearing 9-patch that I started for MIL's August birthday, then abandoned. Love seeing and hearing about everything people got done today!

Mama Llama 05-20-2012 06:24 PM

Joining late but still have 2 hours to sew tonight. Will work on pre-quilting fabric for new purse.

Yes sorry, I meant the week after :) :) That way everyone can enjoy Father's Day weekend with their families (plus I will be on vacation during Father's Day weekend :) :)) Thanks for clearing it up though!! Sometimes I type faster than my brain works. :)

Cheers!

Krista, your quilt is wonderful. I love the progression of the shades of blue.

Dogs are walked and it's storming so I'm off to quilt.

himnherr 05-20-2012 06:50 PM

I didn't get to start until about 6:00 pm. But I accomplished what I wanted to so it was a good virtual quilting bee day! I finished the top of a turning 20 that I'm making for a young woman who is off on an adventure to China next month. I also do a monthly block swap with a friend in California. We are mailing them on the 25th so I made her block today also. I feel good about the quilt top because I have the time to sandwich it tomorrow and start quilting it. I'll try & post a picture of it tomorrow.

I just figured out how to put 2 photos in the same post. I finished 2 of my stars for the 50 paper pieced stars group. I am still behind, but getting caught up. I have really enjoyed this virtual quilting group. We have such talented people on this board. Goodnight.
Pat

irishrose 05-20-2012 07:24 PM

meanmom, your baby quilt is adorable and so well done. The stars are wonderful. How long do we have to wait to see the quilt? Is it a BOM?

LTeachergeorge 05-20-2012 07:29 PM

The day didn't work out for me, either, but it was great seeing the grandkids (even the dog they brought with them). DDIL brought me a quilt to make a label for and bind for her. LOL Poker Diva, love the wall hanging -- was so surprised to see the stars cut in half, but I really like the effect. Ube Quilting, love your teapots -- they are absolutely adorable. Raggiemom, was the fabric in your sweet treat "Aviary"? Such soft and pretty colors. Kristakz, your shades of blue in your storm at sea is so dramatic -- love it. Meanmom, your bright baby quilt is so cute -- sure you'll get it finished in time. See you all on June 24th -- it's nice to know the date ahead of time. Thanks, Rachel.

mdall 05-20-2012 07:30 PM

well only got to goal 3 but had a busy day anyway with mostly the kids and house choirs but any sewing is good. maybe next time. by the way anyone know maybe when next time will be? Never mind i just saw it, the 24th of june. Hope to see you then.

elizajo 05-20-2012 07:36 PM

I pieced one round of logs and triangles on 64 "Pineapple Blossom" blocks today. Hope to finish the blocks this week after work while I pre-wash some linen to make several gifts over Memorial Day weekend.

nancia 05-20-2012 09:01 PM

elizajo== do you use linen for quilt tops?

guess i'm the last to go to bed. i'll put out the cat, lock the door and put out the light@ good night!!

irishrose 05-20-2012 09:07 PM

Am I the only one who had a serious date with her seam ripper today? I had to totally unquilt one block and it was little overlapping stitches. I tried a different flower pattern in the nine patches. Not! I think the original meander will have to do.

nancia 05-20-2012 09:16 PM

since you shared yours, judy, i'll share mine. i made a small wall hanging for my sister and i had sewn the binding on after straightening the sides, then i noticed it didn't look even so i trimmed all the way around (mind you, i had not done the hand sewing) and turned the edge over to do the sewing on the back. i had cut off all the miters for the corners! so now i have to take the complete binding off (rippit) and make a new one. so no, you are not the only one having an affair with jack the ripper! boooo!! turn the light out ! night!!

Got some of the blocks together - it's just a start but it's great to finally get this project moving beyond the block stage... :) I plan to add borders with the green leaf fabric & the pink small rose bud fabric in the upper right hand corner of the pic. The recipient loves pink roses!

Mama Llama 05-20-2012 10:16 PM

haha! Maybe I'm the last to bed tonight. Not quite midnight here in CA. I got a patchwork purse pattern cut out, and all the pieces and interfacing cut out. Picked the fabric for my next block trade. A good couple of hours work. Now its off to lala land, until June 24th! Night all!

May in Jersey 05-20-2012 10:51 PM

Great work quilters! I never did get to join in and sew but I did do something quilting today, I picked up my quilts that were in my Guild's Quilt Show on Friday and Saturday. May in Jersey

That is very pretty. I love roses - always have, but it's becoming an obsession as I become older.

Nah, I'm the last to bed. It's 3:34 here. I had to write a newsletter and I never start too soon. The deadline is noon tomorrow and I don't do my best thinking before noon so I just finished. Yay!

It was a good quilting day, seam ripper and all. It feels so good to be starting the FMQ on this particular quilt. Thank you all for your company.

nancia 05-20-2012 11:51 PM

saw your pictures, may! very nice work! still, i bet your glad the qs is over for now. sounds like you deserve a bubble bath and a nice sleep=in in the morning.:o
sleep well, judy!

cannyquilter 05-21-2012 02:57 AM

Hi all, just to say you have all been busy and produced some great work. Had been hoping to join you as I enjoyed the last day so much but was away for weekend and got back too late and too tired to start. Have noted down the next date so will make sure I can join you as it is such a great way to connect and stay focused. Thanks for organising Rachel

Krystyna 05-21-2012 03:29 AM

Good morning! I've been hand piecing a hex runner and I think today I'll finish it up with my machine.

sharkee 05-21-2012 04:25 AM

Well I did not see this post until this morning since I was busy quilting all day. Here is what I got done.
1. I hand basted a Jo Morton project for hand quilting
2. Basted, quilted and bound a Sashiko and embroidered butterfly wall hanging that I created
3. Completed my Bella Verona Quilt top
Plus walked my treadmill for 30 min and played with my dog and 2 cats

I will try to post pics when I get home from work

AUQuilter 05-21-2012 04:48 AM

I am joining in today. Goals are: finish blocks for the April Showers quilt top, decide if sashing or no sash and color, tidy sewing room, watch tutorials on clothesline baskets that were QB about 2-3 days, and finally check out Missouri Quilt company new tute on YouTube-the Crazy Quilt. Once that is completed, I will update my list.

schwanton 05-21-2012 04:50 AM

I am a beginner fmq'er. So my machine is set up, my practice sandsiches are ready and my quilt is sandwiched waiting until I have mastered my stitches. Hopefully I will be able to move onto the quilt sooner than I think. I will keep you posted.

MaryLane 05-21-2012 06:33 AM

I tried very hard yesterday. I have most of a quilt for graduation gift quilted but I am not happy with it. I spent three hours picking out quilting where I had wrinkles and now have more! My husband said he had never heard me cuss that much about a quilt.

I did finish two aprons for my BOM club. One is a self designed clothespin apron.

I swear I spent the entire day at one machine or another but that is all I have to show for it.

Glad to see some of the rest of you had better day than me.

MimiBug123 05-21-2012 06:39 AM

I love this quilt!!! The fussy cut centers are precious and the color choice is brilliant! This quilt makes you happy just to look at it.

jude by the sea 05-21-2012 07:07 AM

Good morning all. Athenagwis your virtual idea is awesome. I read all 16 pages of responses and it was so cool to see and read what goals people had on their plates. Some of the goals, challenges and successes are similar to my world. I have to admit that I sometimes feel guilty that I spend some days doing nothing but quilt.other days I can't get out of my garden...I just wish I had more of me to do all that I want. I juggle trying to make soap, fuse glass, make torch beads, , quilt, work in garden, quilt, swim, stare at the trees, quilt and the story goes on. This project makes me feel similar to the days when all the women got together to quilt and talk about life, family, dreams and things. So needles to say I am in. My goals today are to piece the corners and triangles in my radiant star. It is my first done the Eleanor Burns way. The center pin wheel did not turn outlike El,s but it is nice. I will try to finish that today. Oh yeah I will keep checking in to see what you all have to say about your goals etc. happy sewing and thanks Athenagwis!
