Come Virtually Quilt with me Today - 5/20

The day is finally here!! Let's get out butts in gear and sew! :) You do not have to do anything to join me, you just have to jump in and sew! Here are the "rules":

I have always wanted to go to those all day sews at a LQS store, but not knowing anyone and having to drag my machine around has always stopped me, so I decided to do the same thing with my virtual friends. I can sew in my PJs, leave my machine where it is, and still get the encouragement I need to get some much needed projects done. So come and join me today!!

The rules couldn't be any easier. Tell us what your goals are for today, then get off the computer and sew! hehe Of course every hour or couple of hours, be sure to check in and let us know how you are proceeding, share pics and offer up encouragement to others.

So let's get to it! My goals for today are:

1. Sew at least one block in my "Alice" quilt
2. Sew at least 10 block in my solids quilt
3. Work on a WIP that hasn't been touched in a while

So what are your goals?

Remember, you can join us at any point today, so even if you have plans for half the day, we are happy to offer encouragement for the time you can join us. Pictures are optional, but we love seeing what you are working on!! but most of all, you must have fun! If you are not having fun, you are not allowed to join us. :) :) :) :)

Cheers!
Rachel

Good Morning Rachel,

I'll join you in between taking care of 8 dogs while my husband is out fishing.
Goals:
1. Finish the borders on my dog wallhangings...4 of them. And maybe baste them for quilting.
2. Hand sew the binding to my Winter Waterfall wallhanging.
3. Start quilting my sheep.

Whew, I'm worn out already and I haven't even fed the dogs yet or gotten started on my goals.

Good morning Rachel. I can't believe I slept in till 6:30. Usually up at 5:30. The coffee's on, now I'm ready. I pulled out one of the last UFOs, its a red and white basket. Now to figure what the heck I intended. No card like I've sworn to make for every project. Sometime today I also intend to learn to post a picture. Now to go measure and scratch my head. Don't even know what size it was supposed to be but all the baskets are halfway pieced. So glad we are doing this. Stella

I have a small goal - make the label for a wedding quilt. The rest of the day will be more renovations at the new house.

Pat625 05-20-2012 03:13 AM

First I have to drop my DD off at a school event, then it is home to sew a bow tuck purse for one of my other DD's. After that I want to cut out the p ieces for my grandsons quilt, and begin piecing it..Hopefully I can get the top done today, so i can begin hand quilting it tomorrow!!

ashlett 05-20-2012 03:19 AM

Well I have fed the hens, dog and ponies, walked along the shore. I have just finished the centre block in a quilt I am making for my new future daughter in law, she chose reds, greys and turquoise. I bought some fabrics locally and I have ordered some from Fabric Shack, I am doing a star quilt, with different size blocks and different stars. I was going to do a wedding ring but could not sort it with those colours, maybe I will do a wedding ring later when they have set a date.

Raggiemom 05-20-2012 03:24 AM

Good morning all. I have a couple UFO/WIP that I would like to finish today. If I get those done, then I will start cutting the strip sets into squares for the queen sized log cabin quilt I'm making. However, I won't be able to start all that until I get back home from church. So I'll check in with you all later! :)

erindipity 05-20-2012 03:35 AM

I've been in a virtual pajama party at QCA since Friday. I made my first jelly roll top, completed a patriotic top for my DH and made a machine cover!! I am a new quilter so this is an amazing task for me. Here in a few minutes I will put the last stitches in the machine cover and head to the grocery store. I plan to baste and start quilting the throw for my DH. I will post pics of this weekends accomplishments later. Have fun!

117becca 05-20-2012 03:38 AM

I want to walk along the shore!!! Don't want to feed hens, dogs, and ponies....but walking around the shore...YUP!!!!

Anywho - my goal is to finish quilting the outer border on the lap throw for the choir director at church. I'm a bit over 1/3 done, maybe half way done. Our dinner is Thurs. I think I can do it -IF i don't hang on the 'puter!.....

hopetoquilt 05-20-2012 03:54 AM

I am going to put aside my to do list...

Make my first bag. Just printed the pattern yesterday and picked up the necessary materials. Crossing my fingers that it comes out okay because this is going to be very challenging for me but I am going for it. I will post pix at the end of the day.

meanmom 05-20-2012 03:54 AM

Ashlett, did you order from Fabric Shack in Ohio. I have been there several times it is an awesome store. They have a pretty good clearance section. It is about an hour drive for me.
I plan on making one of my paper pieced stars today then I need to get back to my baby quilt. It is half way marked to quilt, so I need to finish that and layer and quilt it, and bind it. The shower is next Saturday. I need to get off the computer, throw a load of laundry in, eat breakfast and get to my sewing. OOOOH! fun

homebody323 05-20-2012 04:18 AM

My goal for today - quilt the top on my machine - I have five other projects to do for customers before I lay my head down tuesday night and this is the biggest and the one I least want to do. It just doesn't trip my trigger. I will take off at 11:30 to go to a plant sale. My yard is nearly naked and needs that sale desperately. Can't have a naked yard, what will the neighbors say? I'm planning to take Tuesday off from quilting to make my DH the best birthday ever so this is going to be quite a hard few days. I hope puttting the goals in writing will help. Good luck to all of you on your goals.

franc36 05-20-2012 04:24 AM

My goal is to cut out the sashing strips for my "Tavern Blues" quilt before leaving for 9:00 church. The patterened strips have to be cut individually. The goal for the remainder of the day is to complete 6 blocks. I so enjoy being a part of virtual quilting!

GemState 05-20-2012 04:48 AM

I have a lap quilt in the machine that I began FMQing yesterday........and I picked up a quilt from the LAQ yesterday that is going to my oldest DGD. She loves every quilt I make! My time will mostly be spent hand stitching the binding. I will be thinking of all my 'friends' who are quilting with me!

litacats 05-20-2012 05:13 AM

first I have to clean the kittens messes, then I have to help DH in the shed, then I have to clean the big cat messes, by then I will have to go to town to the Dr to get my results of the cat scan, then in the afternoon I may have time to finish a baby quilt. I have freemotioned flowers on all the squares and tried my hand at freemotion sixes on all the borders then tried my hand at feathers on the outside borders, it is a practice piece, so hopefuly I can do the binding tomorrow,
I have a little friend that is having a hard time of it so I may give it to her as a lap quilt, at least she wont mind the practice meandering, the wire has broken on my qbot and i have to get another then maybe I can start practicing on that again.

redmadder 05-20-2012 05:15 AM

I've got the measurements straightened out and all the pieces cut. Its plain why I put it away. The basket handles are pieced, just strips at right angles but its hard to get them to hit the same on the basket, which is half square triangles. Oh well, going to just accept the variations and get this top together. Still not sure what size, plain squares between them or sashing? Oh the fun of figuring it out.

kateyb 05-20-2012 05:17 AM

I didn't get my queen sized quilt pinned. I do have a couple of smaller quilts ready to go and I have been making pot holders using my orphan blocks. I want to make a few more of those. Maybe start pinning the queen this evening. I do have a shopping trip planned with DH later this afternoon.

Chicca 05-20-2012 05:36 AM

Good morning everyone! Boy, I slept in this morning; it is 8:30 here and just having my first cup of coffee. I had planned on appliqueing 23 blocks for a quilt I am working on. Spent all day yesterday ironing on the remaining pieces and then sat down to go ahead and start. My machine would not do a zig zag stitch for anything. So, spent the remainder of the day hopefully fixing the problem. So, if my machine will sew today...that is my goal. If not, I have another quilt in mind that will need to be cut out. Still need a few more cups of coffee though. LOL.

Already did some yard work and walked a few miles. My quilting goal today is to start on a few double sawtooth star blocks for my Shakespeare in the Park quilt. I already did the snails trail block quite some time ago. I've just been stalling.

Buckeye Rose 05-20-2012 05:48 AM

My goal for today is to get to Menards and order new cabinets for my kitchen (on sale and extra 11% rebate on everything purchased in store). My sewing goals are:

1. Finish bow tucks bag for DD.
2. Get fabric ordered for next 2 bags.
3. dig through my stash and plan next charity quilt.

Hope to join you later this afternoon -- after birthday dinner for my son. Hope everyone has a successful sewing day!

I will join in - I am still in PJ's its about 7:00 am drinking coffee (with my three french bulldogs snoring n the background). My goal is to load a quilt onto my longarm and get it quilted - my nephew and his wife are having their first child and he is due anytme now - I have the top completed but need to get it quilted. Also, I may attempt to make another cloth baby diaper - for some reason I have the hardest time getting the elastic just right around the leg part. I will post a pic of the quilt top then update my progress later.

franc36 05-20-2012 06:39 AM

Didn't reach my first goal of cutting all my sashing strips before early church; but I did get 28 cut. Fussy cutting takes longer than I had anticipated. I had planned to start the actual sewing after lunch, so I'll be able to cut the remainder before I go to the Wellness Center for exercise. After lunch, I will do nothing but sew on my blocks.

Otis, what a cute quilt. I am only making one goal at a time. If I get that one done I will make another. My first goal is to catch up on a BOM I am doing. If you ask me it is more like a mystery, since I had no clue how it was going to turn out. It is a real surprise. I don't normally machine applique so I think that is why I have kept putting it off but I have the center fused down now and all I have to do is sew around it and figure a way to do the vines. Here is where I am now. There is still one more month(clue) to go. I will post another pic if I get caught up.

Hi My goal is to finish a baby quilt for a family member. It's called Zig & Zagged. It was taught at our quilt guild's mentoring class. It was easy and fun to make. Gonna get dressed...yes still in my jammies. Long hard week and I've had vertigo for over a week. I worked like this and need some fun today. Thanks for your great idea. I'm with you. Now off to get dressed to my shoes and QUILT!!!!!

My goals for today (I actually started yesterday because DH is out of town):
3 flannel blankets
3 pair pillowcases
1 free motion car quilt (this is one I'm dreading the most)

Will check in later. Happy sewing.

Taking my first break, after appliqueing my first block. I sure am enjoying reading every post and seeing all of the photos. With degenerative arthritis in my lower back, it is one block at a time, take a break and then onto the next one. So, expect to post and read a lot today. Really enjoying this.

Wow, all of you are working on such wonderful projects! Here is a photo of my first block; still have the center to add after all of the outside edges are done on the remaining 22.

Pat625 05-20-2012 07:34 AM

Isn't it Great when you have a good stash..There are those days I want to do something either have no money or can't get out of the house!! I get an extra kick when I can create from scraps or stash!! Yesterday I peiced a queen size top using all scraps, and muslin I always have in stash!!

Two of the dog wallhangings are basted and the bias binding made. Two more are trying out color combos for a flange and binding. I forgot about the Trip Around the World hanging in the background. I started it about 15 years ago and now think I should just play around with FMQ and maybe give it to the dog.
