Checking in....

My jelly roll strips are hanging to dry, looking lots better. Also finished quartering the 9-patches, rotary cutter developed a mind of it's own so had to make two more blocks.
Was working on my November turkey block, it didn't square too well, will have to add an extra strip down one side. Bummer. Going to work on other blocks first, then lay everything out and decide which side to use for that (left or right).

Taking a break, ordered a pizza, then onto another HST - an umbrella block for April. Here's a scan of my D9P squares.

Well that didn't take as long as I thought it would. She's appliqued!!

Be kind ... I haven't drawn life forms since High School ... there's good reason I STOPPED! Her head is a tad too small and her legs look like she's a professional cyclist. Come to think of it ... the woman I'm making it for is an avid mountain hiker so the legs are probably appropriate :)

Now on to the lettering on the right side.

IrishNY 06-24-2012 08:03 AM

Ok, I really need to stop reading about quilting here on the board and actually get some done myself. Lol. I have to make a block for a group quilt we're making at work in memory of a colleague to give to his wife. Then I have to make about a million HSTs for a quilt for my son. It will be great when it's done but I hate HSTs so I have been dragging my feet about working on it. Hopefully they will all be sewn and squared by the end of the day.

I'll check in again later and may have some pictures then too. Good luck to us all that we accomplish our goals!

DebraK 06-24-2012 08:07 AM

yikes! all that came off one dog?

I didn't get as much done this morning as I planned. I remembered that I bought strawberries to make jam yesterday, and then discovered I was out of sugar. So out to the store this morning. Back home, made a batch of jam, and got a little bit of sewing in between that. 2 placemats are quilted. 2 to go, plus the runner.

And here's a couple pictures of the disaster I call my sewing room. It really should be tidied, but that would cut into my sewing time :) Now, off to finish the next 2 placemats.

I have cut out a pumpkin wall quilt based on a Thimbleberries pattern in the a.m. Have TWO high school graduations parties I have to head out to in a few. I'm assuming we won't be back before early p.m. Plan to continue to handquilt a lap quilt I pieced during last month's virtual quilt-a-thon. Also in the planning stages of another charm quilt. Don't expect to get a lot done today, but I'm with all of you in spirit.

I spend quite a bit of time in here. The one thing I really would like to get is a large table for cutting that my large cutting mat would fit on. I love to open the curtains and watch the children playing and the birds.

Chicca 06-24-2012 08:31 AM

This is my project for today!

I am having a great time with this project. Trying out a different way to "applique" per say. I have so many tiny pieces and fitting them in specifically...I decided to trace everything onto my tear away stabilizer, attach the fusible pieces onto that. Next, I will tack it onto the backing fabric and then applique/free motion machine embroider the entire piece. I hope that it works or this will be a lot of wasted time and effort.

So off to do some more pieces. Love what everyone is doing!

irishrose 06-24-2012 08:31 AM

Okay, I'm home. I am going to finish the binding on the red quilt that has been around way too long, then put it aside and work on my Train mystery. I am way behind on that one, so today is it.

gramajo 06-24-2012 08:33 AM

Just checking in to see what you all have accomplished. I've finished 3 of the 10 heads--all traced onto fusible, cut out & fused to background block.

DogHouseMom: that is awesome. Can't wait to see it finished.

QuiltinginSD 06-24-2012 08:45 AM

Joining you! I'm headed down to the sewing room to work on 2 mug rugs for a swap I'm in. I can't decide what they should look like, so I'll be doing some experimenting. I'll try to post pics of my sewing room later on.

I am currently working on 5 blocks from my Geese in the Forest quilt. Here is a picture of my working space, it's a small corner in my bedroom. :) I am hoping to have pics of my blocks soon.

Cheers!

I've been up since 7, not dressed as I have also declared today a pajama day for me since for once I do not have to go out anywhere today. Put dinner in the crock pot so I don't have to stop to make dinner. My goal for today is to put together the blocks for my basket weave strings quilt I am making from free pattern on Quiltville. I also plan to cut the pieces needed to make the bricks and stepping stones pattern.

leakus 06-24-2012 09:00 AM

Progress check!
My top is almost ready. I will attach a border then to sandwich. I am not cooking lunch- DH turn!

Loved reading all your projects for today and enjoyed the pictures. I will try to add pictures here.
I have company coming over and had to stop sewing. I did get the first border sewn on my quilt top and plan to join the wof strips to make the 2nd border later tonight. My sewing cabinet is set up in my entry way. My stash and longarm are in it's own room (which is too small to have my sewing machine set up. I cut things at my dining table and iron at the breakfast nook. Scattered around, yes, get exercise, you bet. On my long arm I had some backing left over and decided to add leftover batting pieces and muslin on top to practice some feathers and leaves. When I grow up I want to be able to quilt like all the wonderful quilters here on QB!

10:10 in CA, chores done, roast in the oven, ready to go sew! My iPad can't upload pix, but my sewing room looks like some of yours, very busy place. Last week-end I bought a pattern and fabrics for a bag at my LQS, inspired by the store sample. It's from a tiger panel, will let you know how it comes out.

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 09:10 AM

KristaKZ - love that braid, and love the blocks on your wall!

Chicca ... WOW on those little applique pieces! That is going to be awesome!

Just got back from the LQS as I needed more steam-a-seam. True to nature, that's not all I came home with (batting, 3 fabrics and a pattern for a dress I'll make for my 2 yr old grand-daughter).

Ok, back to the sewing room I go.

franc36 06-24-2012 09:22 AM

Just checking in. My goal today is to cut out everything needed to make "Paris Market", a queen size quilt adapted from a design by Gerri Robinson, The pattern is in McCall's Quick Quilts, June/July 2012. Before early church, I was able to cut out 100 2 1/2 inch squares. Before going to the Wellness Center for exercise, I cut out 150 more squares. I've finished lunch, so now all I have to do is quilt with all of you! If I should get everything cut out, I have two applique blocks that I need to finish.

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 09:55 AM

Could have been done by now if I would quit checking up on everyone else. The center of my quilt is all put together so I am going to go have lunch then put the borders on. You will not hear from me again until those pesky borders are in place and I can take a pic. Keep on working.

Chasing Hawk 06-24-2012 10:00 AM

well today my plans are.......

To finish one sundress for Raiden and cut out several little summer tops and two more sundresses for Raiden and her little sister Bella.

gramajo 06-24-2012 10:11 AM

You and me both, PokerDiva. Of course, the fact I fused pattern on the wrong side of the black so the head appears reversed from the way I wanted it, doesn't help either. ;) I just traced the head again & will now apply the fusible to the back of the black & then fuse it to the background facing it the correct direction this time. Darn my mixed up brain. :(

stefanib123 06-24-2012 10:13 AM

I am here, too!

I'm starting my ........drumroll,please...............Dear Jane quilt today! Hand pieced!

I've been needing a new project to work on while watching tv with the family so I'm going to do it. This quilt speaks to me as others never have. So I'm going to get a bunch off cutting done today, and sew this evening. I also have a baby quilt to bind, but I think its going to have to wait, lol!

stefanib123 06-24-2012 10:15 AM

I could sew happy here, even has a kitty and a window!

Fighting to get the pic of my tiny work corner posted, and finally gave up for now...Cut the blocks and assembled for grandson's quilt..now on to cut the sashing. Hoping to have the whole top pieced by the end of the day...Took daughter off to go on her trip and was very good...did not stop at Joannes (of course that is only because of the pouring rain from TS Debbie, and tornado watch!!) Rain, rain go away!! In between I am doing little things for the quilted purses I am making..So many projects in process, and want to do hand quilting!! Some of us are just never happy!! LOL

You too??

I am so mad at myself I can just spit.

I spent hours printing just the right size font and measuring them on the quilt top to make sure the words fit. Put the printed pages on the window (backwards - just like I'm supposed to) and traced 1/2 of the letters (20 characters in all) and thought ... did I trace this on the correct side of the paper (steam-a-seam has two papers ). I *thought* I remembered that I was supposed to trace it on the paper that didn't retain the web. When I looked at my tracings, I traced it on the paper that retained the web. So I erased all the tracings, flipped the paper and traced again. Now I've got 15 characters traced and I ran out of paper - went into the sewing room to get the remainder of the roll and ... read the directions. DUMMY DUMMY DUMMY!! I had it right the first time!! At least I haven't cut them yet.

My eraser is getting as much of a work out as my seam ripper usually does!

I need a break. Lunch sounds good. Yeah, that's what I'll blame it on ... low blood sugar :) (no I'm not diabetic)

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 11:01 AM

StefaniB123 ... good for you!! Would love to do DJ one day when other promised projects are complete and I have enough of the fabrics I need (I've been collecting for one). As for hand piecing it ... no way. DJ is going to become very good friends with my sewing machine (where possible ... and I'll find a way to make as much of it possible as possible!!).

GrammaJo ... I work just up the road from Peotone in Monee. I go through Peotone all the time. Nice little town.

IrishNY 06-24-2012 11:14 AM

Quick break to check and see how ya'll are doing. I thought I would whip through my memory block but I thought wrong. I'm making a Carolina Lily block with 48 1" squares, and 24 of them are HSTs. So I am still plugging along on my one block. I will be pretty embarrassed later when everyone is showing off whole quilts and all I have is a block. Lol

Back to the sewing machine...

Time for a break. Multiple machine jams, picked stitches 3 times, new needle, rethreaded times 3...now it's working right. Almost finished with SID around the black faces, tails and legs on the sheep. The two singles are ready to become totes or pillows or to be bound for mini wallhangings.

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 11:36 AM

Headache.
Aspirin.

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 11:46 AM

Nice sheep Sunnie! Baaaaaa.

Pat625 06-24-2012 11:51 AM

Tropical Debbie is still pouring.I can't even see out my window, and I can hear the wind whipping..Would be a great day to crawl back into bed and watch a movie, but I am determined to get work done!! Blocks done and pressed, adn off to cut sashing...got a little sidetracked sewing and pressing some parts for purses in between....still cant get the pic of my work "corner" to load... Looks like a lot of great things are happening today...I want to do a Dear Jane one day, and I love the sheep!!

Atomicdog 06-24-2012 11:52 AM

Checking in. Love all the projects - those sheep are great! You may as well just package those up and mail them out to me! Got the table runner all quilted, but for the first time ever, am having fits with the stupid binding. Got my 2 applique blocks all fused and ready to go. Diet Pepsi break before I start one last push! Enjoying seeing and hearing about everyone's "stuff"!

There are some great projects on here. I finished Month 5 and the 2 pillowcases. I didn't realize Month 5 included assembling the quilt centerpiece but that is done now too. The rest of the months make border blocks and then big borders. I think I'm done for the day as back is killing me! But I feel pretty good about what I've done today. Will keep checking in to see y'all are doing.
