Chairjogger, what a great name. How many of us could call ourselves that?

leatheflea 06-24-2012 12:59 PM

Well my chair project went bad, had machine issues, the machine didn't like the heavy duty outdoor thread. Then after finishing the prototype and putting it on the chair it was too large. It would have been nice had I had measurements instead of trial and error. The owner of the chairs told me to make them 48" long, WRONG! ended up being 44". I ran out of thread after starting #3 out of 6. So I cleaned up the mess from the serger and put away that project. Now Im off to start on the Colts quilt. Lets hope things go better...

gramajo 06-24-2012 01:01 PM

Very pretty, Raggiemom.

DogHouseMom, Yes, Peotone is a nice town. I like it a lot. Where do you live? What a bummer on the letters! That really sounds like one of my tricks. How's your lady coming--can't wait to see her.

Got the letters re-traced and cut.

Anyone want to guess what it is going to say?? I've got them scrambled in the pic below.

A few hints are necessary.

There is a punctuation mark missing from this picture ... it is an apostrophe.
There is no L in the saying.
The uppercase I looks like a lower case l.
Remember ... this is a quilt for a Chemo patient.

Any guesses?

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 01:07 PM

GrammaJo

I live in Braceville which is way over next to I55 ... just south of Wilmington.

The lady is finished ... a pic of her sewn to the top is on page two of this thread. I'm getting ready (or fixin to for the southerners) to adhere the words now.

PokerDiva ... love the quilt top!! I also love Chairjogger's name and wish I had thought of that one instead of DogHouseMom :)

There is an x-ray in there. I will keep looking.

franc36 06-24-2012 01:08 PM

Yea! I met my goal. All of the pieces are cut out even the fussy cut outer borders. I have also marked the 200 squares that will be used to make flying geese. Now, I am going to relax as I work on hand sewing my applique squares for another project. Tomorrow, I can start sewing on my quilt. It will be so much easier with everything ready for sewing.

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 01:09 PM

I would say cemotherapy but I don't see a C.

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 01:10 PM

OK, I don't see a p either.

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 01:11 PM

Do we have a date for the next virual sew? I really like these.

Atomicdog 06-24-2012 01:24 PM

Finished my goals for the day!! Yay!! Love this thread and hope we can do this again. Loved seeing everyone's projects - going to beg my DS to teach me how to post a pic. Is this a monthly thing??

Nope :)

Another hint ... laughter is the best medicine so think funny, and remember the lady!!

Sandra in Minnesota 06-24-2012 01:38 PM

OK- So I got up late, went out for a long lunch, and here I am, reading the Board. Todays plan (what's left of it) is to put the binding on a table topper that has been staring at me for about three months. Have fun, everyone!

Beth33 06-24-2012 01:51 PM

Jelly roll strips are dry, pressed, and hanging (very carefully) over my bedroom door. I'm thinking I could finish that top in two nights this week. Yah!!

Still have to do a schoolhouse block for September. Saw the fabric wasn't prewashed/shrunk, don't want to do a special load today. I finished the football pillowcase, so that project all packed away for now. The jelly roll and D9P projects don't need to be finished until next August (2013).

I will be finished with college at the end of July, moving into an apartment where I'll have a sewing room, and have already bought a Ken Lund quilt frame, can't wait to set it up. Will be too busy with finals to join you all next month, see you in August, tho!

Quilt top almost done..spent a lot of time with the frog today..Maybe because I really wanted to be working on something else....Have to cut a few more strips for sashing, and now it looks like I will be about 3 inches short to cut the first border!!! This is my 5th and final Gator quilt for a grandson...looking forward to working on the girls quilts...butterflies, hearts etc and pretties~~ If I can't get all the border cut, I will proably work on my purses for a while, and then prep more squares for my cathedral window....
I have a feeling my problem stems from the fact that I really dont like the quilt I am doing..My grandson designed what he wanted, and ha 2 versions fo gator fabric sashed with footballs..I added a 1 inch border around the gator fabrics, even tho he didn't ask for this, because putting it next to each other was way too busy.. Off to cut and may be get this one top done..Hope the fabric holds~!

I love these sheep!! I am jealous, I'd love one hanging on my wall. :) :) Very cute!!

It is when you cut the fabric to show a particular portion of it without regard to saving fabric, so if you have a fabric with all kinds of desserts on it, you might cut just a donut out which could be in the middle of the fabric.

My tiger bag is done. I still have time to clean up a little in here so I can start a new project in the morning. Loved spending the day with all of you. I'll look back here later to see what you have done.

jeank 06-24-2012 02:39 PM

I got the military top done. Will post when I get a pic. Not going to get the top finished that is on the frame, company stopped in. One out of two goals is good.

We have a winner!!

When Maria told me she was diagnosed with cancer our first conversation was about how she was going to wear crazy wigs. True to those words, about a week after her first Chemo treatment she had a big "head shaving" party at her house and since then she's been walking around in a purple wig.

Got the words ironed on. Contemplating sewing them down or making dinner ... not sure yet which will win.

Pat625 06-24-2012 02:41 PM

My Mom loved that saying when she was going thry Chemo..at that time they were trying to sell "spray on" hair,,,Of course we bought her every color there was..she wa afraid to actually try it..Will keep Maria in my prayers

Well, I'm taking a little break from my sewing to eat some dinner. I've been hard at work on a Jelly Roll Race. I have the top all sewed together & have the inner borders sewn on both long sides. But, now I'd decided that (a) the top is wider than I want it to be & (b) the inner border is too wide (it's 2" now). So, after I refuel, I think I'm going to whack the borders off & take a little bit of the top as I do so. Then I'm going to add 1" inner border & then the outer border (which I'd planned to do at 4" but now don't know for sure). Plus, I'm still on the hunt for a quilting book here in the house. I can't remember the exact name of it but I know I'll recognize the name & the front cover. Grrrrrr! I hope everyone else is having a fun & productive day. These are so helpful!

 I love Maria's attitude.

Oh, go ahead and sew the letters on. Dinner can wait.

I am green with envy for anyone that has an actual room to quilt in.. 30 years ago I started in my living room.. I am back now.. with much less space. ... but quilting away ! Tubs are my friends. Clear tubs. !

gramajo 06-24-2012 02:55 PM

I've 1/2 way reached my goal. I have 5 heads fused to their background fabric. Of course, having to redo one, putting dinner on the stove to simmer and sorta watching the Nascar race slowed me down a bit. :) Almost time to put finishing touches on dinner and then eat. It's smelling good and suddenly I'm very hungry.

I'll be back later to see what else has been finished.

I've also attached a picture of my cutting room and 2 of my angels who helped me in the sewing room earlier. I have the pillowcases ready to work on. I'm headed downstairs for lunch. I made chicken salad for sandwiches last night and potato salad also. I threw a chocolate cake in the crockpot before I started this morning and it smells really good. So it will be a few minutes before I head back to the sewing room! :)

2 non-quilting things... chocolate cake in the crock pot? How does that work? It sounds yummy! And your helpers? Too, too cute!

I think they're always the last Sunday of the month. I'm not near a calendar (I suppose there's one here on my 'puter someplace but I'm too dumb to find it) but I assume it's around this same date.

When my BFF was going thru her chemo, she got a really sexy long blonde wig... so unlike her it wasn't even funny. Which is what made it so great. Her theory was that cancer had turned her into a stone cold fox... LOL!

OK, Rebecca, I put it on my calendar. If I miss it I am holding you responisible. 30 lashes with a wet noodle.

Finished the Color Pools table runner. Just goes to prove there is no such thing as a perfect square or circle. But we like it. Have to go to grocery store then maybe attack the red/black/white asian quilt.

The fussy cut border has the same design on each of the four strips. In this border, the 9 1/2" wide strip is centered over a strip of roses. Since the border is centered over the roses, you have to make more cuts. There is excess fabric between each strip. I did not enjoy cutting those borders; but they are beautiful and will be mitered.

When I started planning the quilt I googled "cancer sayings" and found it, then I thought of the woman in the pose, and the last step was the horizontal strips and ta-da ... a quilt is made.

5 letters sewn down.

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 04:45 PM

MammaLlama

I love it!!!!

carolaug 06-24-2012 04:47 PM

thank-you for the modivation!!! I worked on my mother's quilt. FMQ'd it then put on the first side of the binding...took a two hour nap. Woke up and finished the binding! Yah...In the washer it goes!

Tweety2911 06-24-2012 05:08 PM

This has been lots of fun, reading up on everyone, viewing beautiful projects and different sewing spaces. All so different! Sheep are just too cute. Female shadow is awesome! Company left and I did get to sew up the last borders on my scrappy quilt and it is ready to go on the longarm next week. Yippee!
