Come Virtually Quilt with me Today - 6/24

Today's the day!! I am posting this early because we went to a drive in movie tonight and I rolled in at 2:00 AM EST and figured I'll probably sleep in. So when y'all wake up be sure to give us a list of your goals and give us a pic of your sewing room too if you are so inclined. I thought it would be fun to see where everyone sews from!! No need to clean up for us, it makes us feel better if your room isn't perfect. :) :)

I only have only goal for today:

1. Work on Geese in the Forest Quilt

Hopefully I can accomplish that!! LOL I will for sure post pics of my sewing area when I wake up in the morning.

For those that are new to Virtual Quilt Day, this is a now monthly all day quilt-a-thon. I started it because I didn't want to have to lug my sewing machine to a local quilt store for one of those and I figured others might feel the same way. There are no rules, join in whenever you can (after church, before church, during church for non-churchy people like me ...... whatever floats your boat LOL). Just give us a quick idea of your goals for the day before you start, then check in through out the day to update us (With pics!! We love them!!) and spread the encouragement to others as well. That's it!! Easy peasy. :)

I hope you'll be able to join us! So many WIPS see their demise on Virtual Quilt Day, maybe some of yours will join their ranks. :) :) :)

Cheers!!
Rachel

I'm joining:) I am doing some longarming(customer quilts)I'd like to get two baby quilts quilted at least, organizing my stash by putting all my fabric on comic book boards and I would like to finish the binding on my kids baby clothes t shirt quilt. If I do all of that I'll feel like I had a productive day:)

Beth33 06-24-2012 02:34 AM

I don't own a camera, so no pic of my sewing area. It's a card table at the foot of my bed.

I currently have 3 WIP's - My list for today:

1) Jelly Roll Quilt - top 2/3 done but remaining strips wrinkled so need to soak in vinegar and water. (I need to go buy the vinegar so will pick up some OJ and egg mcmuffins, too. lol)

2) Football D9P project - finish cutting my 9-patches into quarters.

3) Hang jelly roll strips to dry.

4) Months of the Year project - I have 3 (12") blocks to finish, but to do so I'll need to make 13 HST's. I hate doing HST's so keep putting it off. Will work on those as long as I can stand it. Would love to finish, square the blocks and sew top....but we'll see.

5) If I get too aggravated with the HST's I will go back to D9P project and make the matching pillowcase.

Well, that's it for starters, now off to store.

happynana 06-24-2012 03:07 AM

I am already working on trying to finish up a baby quilt. Got half of it quilted and would love to finish the quilting today, maybe even get to free motion the borders. Will see how the day progresses.

himnherr 06-24-2012 03:23 AM

It's 6:15 a.m. here in MO and I'm up and at it. My project for the day is my giant scrappy log cabin. I'm making it for our new-to-us camper and I just learned we'll be taking it out in July for it's maiden voyage, so I want it to look good. I'll be on this bedspread all day and then some, but thanks for getting me started! Will post pictures later of current sewing area and progress on LC. Happy sewing everyone!

kristakz 06-24-2012 03:37 AM

I can't wait to get started. Not sure how long my energy will hold out, since my son had a party here last night and they woke me up at 4am (after I went to bed at 2). But I'm here till I drop :) I'll try to post a pic of my room with my first status update.

My goals for today:
1. quilt a table runner and placemats that I finished yesterday
2. catch up on Dancing with the Stars block of the month (just 3 more blocks and I'll be back on track)
3. draft the design for my next baby quilt

I'm in a bit of a lull between projects right now. I want to start another quilt, but the stack of quilts waiting to be quilted is pretty tall. I just ordered a long-arm however, and I want to keep most of those until it arrives. My need to finish is warring with my desire to wait and use the new toy on them.

Now, I'm off to get dressed and start sewing!

Pat625 06-24-2012 03:40 AM

7:30 and dreary here in FL...Tropical storm Debbie is dumping rain :(. About to begin cutting the pieces for my grandson's quilt. Wanted to do this yesterday, but ended up spending all day relaxing with my Cathedral Window project. Would love to get the entire quilt pieced today, and perhaps ready for hand quilting! Have to make a quick run out to drop DD off for her week long Police Explorers competition trip, so since I will be out I might just have to make a stop to use coupons at Joannes before they expire!! I DO need a king size batting for the scrappy quilt to I have completed..But I promise NOT to be there all day!!

gramajo 06-24-2012 03:58 AM

I'm here! Coffee is made. Waiting on Sunday paper.

I want to finish fusing the heads on background fabric for my Silhouettes quilt. I have 10 of the 20 already done. Then stitch around them. Then to get sashing cut & sewn.

Can't post any pictures. Mine died last week. I'm using DD's old computer that doesn't have the programming to download pictures to it. But, when I get my new computer in a week or so, I'll get pix sent.

See you later.

Atomicdog 06-24-2012 04:01 AM

Good morning folks!!! Up, dressed, diet pepsi uncapped, ready to go! My goals for today are to finish everything except turning the binding down on one of those french braid table toppers for my SIL for Christmas, and to get everything down and fused on 2 more of the "Sun" BOM blocks to have ready to take on vacation to hand blanket stitch.

Excited to hear about what you're all working on - have fun!!

I will hit my sewing room about one, after church. My goals for today are to get the boarders on the patriotic quilt for my step grandson that was injured in Afghanistan. I work with Miracle Quilts for wounded soldiers, they offered to send him a quilt, but I wanted to do his myself.

I have a quilt on the long arm that needs to be finished so I can quilt his quilt.

If I get this done after church and before cooking dinner, I will feel I did a lot.

Raggiemom 06-24-2012 04:29 AM

My goals today are to finish months 4-6 of last year's Michael Miller Clubhouse BOM. And two pillowcases which were an extra one month. I would really love to finish all of the blocks but didn't want to set myself an unachievable goal! I had a picture of my sewing room to upload but the computer refuses to allow me to "manage attachments". So I will try again later.

leatheflea 06-24-2012 04:46 AM

Good morning! Its 8:30 here in IN. I up but my motor is still in neutral. Soon I'll get it in gear and with some non quilting stuff first. I've been commissioned to make 6 chair seats. You know those beach chairs with a swagging piece of fabric for a seat and back. Simple sewing and should be able to get them all done quite quickly. To be honest I've been putting them off now for over a month. If I get them done early enough I've got another customer quilt to start. He's wanting a Indianpolis colts quilt, it too has been on the back burner, needs to be done by Aug 27. I'd like to at least get the top cut and pieced ready for applique, theres only 9 large pieces to make the top and then 6 large pieces of applique. Most of the time I THINK I can get done more than I really can, PUT YOUR PEDDLES TO THE METALS GIRLS, IT SEW-A-THON TIME!

so ......get your motor running....head out on the highway....looking for adventure...in whatever comes my way......

Yep I'm singing again

My goodness. It is only 5:45 here and everyone is hard at work. As promised I am posting pics of my sewing room. It is small. Only 8x10 and even smaller when the cat lays across my cutting table(surprised he still has a tail) and one or both of my dogs are laying in the middle of the floor. On the ironing board are the blocks I will be putting together today. It was a mystery. All the blocks are done just need to put it together. I do not have a design wall. I will have to lay it out on the living room floor. When I do that, I will post a pic of that too. So here goes.....Close your eyes.

Yay! This time uploading the pictures worked. This is the room I do my sewing in. I'm fortunate enough to have another room with my cutting table in it. I have the pieces cut for the first block and heading in to start sewing them. Let's go ladies (and gentlemen if there are any on here today). :)

I'm joining! I'm working on a chemo quilt for a friend.

Yesterday I drew and cut the applique of a life sized woman standing in a sexy pose - black fabric. I had an oops when I was peeling the steam-a-seam to adhere to the fabric. Near the bottom the web separated and stayed with the paper instead of adhering to my fabric. I think I'll be Ok though as only a small 1" long by perhaps 1/4" wide area of the inside of one of her calves didn't adhere - the rest of the problem was confined to the area in-between her legs down to her feet. Whew!!!

BTW - this is the first time I'm doing applique. Typical for me, I jump right in to the deep end and do an applique that is over 5' tall!!

Today I'll be sewing it with clear poly thread to the quilt top. The quilt top is a blue/white/yellow 2" strips laid horizontally (like a Jelly Roll Race).

Next step will be to cut out the words and applique those as well. I may have to run out for more steam-a-seam.

No borders so when that is done, just quilt and bind.

DogHouseMom 06-24-2012 05:05 AM

Oh ... I'll also be doing it all on my "B" machine (Husqvarna Lily 535) as I took my "A" machine (Janome 6600) to the shop yesterday. I did a bad thing to her ... sewed through FAR too much material and messed up her timing. Lesson learned.

athenagwis 06-24-2012 05:32 AM

Yay!! Y'all are going to be busy today. I just woke up (it's 9:30 AM here), so I am going to make breakfast for the fam, then I will get some pics of the sewing area and get down to the business of sewing. :) :)

Rachel

Atomicdog 06-24-2012 05:47 AM

Checking in - I've got my table runner 1/2 quilted - YAY!!!!!! I'm loving your pictures - I have no clue how to deal with those, so I'll just say that I don't have a room anyway - I'm over in the corner of the living room watching CBS Sunday Morning with the family. I'd say everyone is off to a great start! If I can knock out the other side of the runner, I'm going to break for a bowl of Cheerios!

Goal is to get half of the quilting done on the Dresden Fan quilt. Surprise quilt for a friend at work. Maybe I should get off and sew huh?

Chicca 06-24-2012 06:01 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

Had a great time with last month quilt along day, since then I have managed to get all of my applique blocks finished. Now they are sitting on a pile waiting for me to decide exactly what/how I am going to arrange the quilt. I may work on that a tad bit. But, my main goal is to attach the remaining applique pieces to a panel quilt. There are going to be five panels. I have attached some pieces to each panel, but expanded my ideas and need to do quite a bit more.

Will post pictures later of the projects. I am just waking up and having first cup of coffee.

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 06:09 AM

OK, I have taken my shower, got dressed, ate breakfast, put a load of laundry in and now I am ready to go. Going to go vacumn the living room and lay out the quilt. Will take a pic then. DogHouseMom, that is going to be some quilt. Can't wait to see it done.

I am ready!!! See pictures, sorry for the mess. Either clean or sew! Sew it is!
My goal today is finish this quilt for my DH who's b-day was yesterday. Very first quilt for him. I bought the beautiful fish batik from a member of this forum and loved it.
I have to finish piecing the rows, sandwich and quilt.
For starts and endings instead of using scraps I sew blocks for a log cabin.

See you around!!! Happy quilting.

gramajo 06-24-2012 06:16 AM

Doghouse mom: That's an ambitious quilt for your 1st applique project. Can't wait to see it done.

OK, I think I am ready to face my sewing room. I have been puppy sitting for 3 days so I had to move everything out of harm's way while he was here.
So #1 - must put it back in order so I can sew.
#2 - think I will start FMQ on one of 3 projects awaiting it.
#3 - more 10 minute blocks

Sure wish I could join all you "up and at them" quilters today but we're going out of town for a family birthday party.
I had planned to do a little sewing before we left but I got goint too late this morning. Woke up around 8am but since our heat wave broke I thought I'd relax and enjoy the nice cool morning while watching the news on tv first. Bad idea as I relaxed my self into an hour nap. Have fun and get a lot done, May in Jersey

I'm up, walked the dogs, doing the morning necessities. Took pic of sewing area, it's not as crowded as it appears but it does have threads and snippets all over the floor. :-) My goal is to finish the Color Pools table runner I started last Saturday. If I get this down pat, I can make 3 more for sister presents before summer family vacation. But from different fabrics, of course. Gotta work through the stash.

carolaug 06-24-2012 06:41 AM

Well finished transplanting plants into my new garden. Cleaned the livingroom and Kitchen...now ready to go iron my backing, cut the batting..and sandwich my Mother's quilt.

Need a break ... lady is now ironed on to the quilt top and I have her face stitched. That was weird ... stitching a lady's face. That was the hardest part with all the pivots.

After running some tests with the clear poly thread I didn't like the way it looked. Normally it's invisible, but not on black .. and I don't have smoke poly. So I opted for black Gutterman in a blanket stitch.

Sunnie ... I think I would rather be puppy sitting!! Well, that depends on the age. I do miss having puppies around, but I will not be breeding anymore. Had a good day yesterday with my 5 yr old boy though - he had a "spa" day - bath, blow dry, ears cleaned, and of course a mani-pedi (except is was all pedi). Results of the blow dry below.

leatheflea 06-24-2012 06:43 AM

Wow look at all those well loved sewing spaces! Lots of great projects going on today. Sad to say I've already been side tracked by my ADHD. Laundry and breakfast, now to the dishes! Oh my goodness I really should go thin out those flower beds, its so pretty outside today.. No no no... as soon as I get the breakfast dishes done I'm sewing! See you all in a few! Maybe by noon I can get some pictures posted of the ugly chair thingys.

q.alba 06-24-2012 06:44 AM

Okay, I am here too. Don't know what I am going to work on - will let you know later.

leatheflea 06-24-2012 06:44 AM

Oh my goodness doghouse mom! What alot of hair! looks like snow!

maddysgrammy 06-24-2012 06:54 AM

Wish I could join you all today but I have a shower to go to at 1. Maybe I can do alittle hand quilting before I go. I'll check in when I return.

Count me in! (Lucky me, I get to do this every day!) Going to scan off patterns for more Dear Jane triangles and get at least one quilted. Also finish another hand-quilted block on the Black/White quilt.
Here is my sewing space. If is looks like a kitchen - it is! Looking out on horse pasture!

Wow, sounds like we're all getting a lot accomplished. Keep up the great work. I'm finished with Month 4, see picture below, there are 4 blocks. I've also attached a picture of my cutting room and 2 of my angels who helped me in the sewing room earlier. I have the pillowcases ready to work on. I'm headed downstairs for lunch. I made chicken salad for sandwiches last night and potato salad also. I threw a chocolate cake in the crockpot before I started this morning and it smells really good. So it will be a few minutes before I head back to the sewing room! :)

ragqueen03 06-24-2012 07:10 AM

What a great idea - can't do it today cause my sister in law and nephew (he's 1-1/2) are in town from Minnesota. So naturally he comes before any quilting today - lol! But will try to do the next one!

Sunnie 06-24-2012 07:12 AM

DogHouseMom...I guess your dog is now ready for summer. That sure is a lot of hair. I'm so glad to have shorthaired dogs when I see all that grooming results.

DonnaR 06-24-2012 07:40 AM

I am up and ready to start after lunch. My goal for today is to finish putting together a top that all the blocks are done. I would like to get it together and all borders on today. I will be very happy if I get that done. My 2nd goal is to cut out a quilt for my grandson, Isaiah, who is 5. It is a penguin and he will love it. Good luck to everyone.

leakus 06-24-2012 07:41 AM

PokerDiva, Love your kisses scrappy quilt. I actually need to start a quilt for my nephew and I think yours is what I was looking for. How big are the small squares?
Great projects I see!

PokerDiva 06-24-2012 07:46 AM

Leakus, the squares are 8" finished. Really easy and great way to get rid of scraps. This was a mystery.
Sorry, I bet you meant the small squares. They are 2 1/2".
