Phew - what a day! slept in til 11, sewed the table runner together, took a nap when my hubby made me watch the football game with him, and I did get the baby quilt top put together:
I didn't get any scrap cutting done, but I'll have to do that during the week. |
Here it is...8:22 pm PST and I'm just seeing this thread. Though I didn't get any sewing done, I did sort through loads of stash; ironing, folding, labeling and photographing FQs and yardage I'll be selling once I meet my three month membership requirement on the board. I must say I had a great time even though I have to take frequent breaks due to a painful back condition. It's always fun to play with fabric. Even at REST, I was playing on Pinterest...looking for new ideas.

Well, it's 1:00 am and I got very little quilting done. Got up, had coffee, took some phone calls. Went to the LQS to get my BOM. Another 18x 36 block with 18 units. Got the patches cut and pinned to the units, but now sewn. Stopped at Joann's because the price on batting just could not be passed by. Bought four queen size W&N battings for about $44. Originally $35 apiece, so saved $100 over retail. Got some pink and blue FQ's for Ina's castle quilt at LQS,and some adorable penguin fabric. Stopped on the way in to put the garden to bed. Harvested all vegetable still on the plants, put all plants on the compost pile, took down and stored all plant supports, and put landscape fabric on the bed. Brought all stuff into the house. DH says, can we have French toast for dinner before I go play golf with Robert in 1/2 hour? So we had French toast for dinner. Washed and pressed the new fabric, cut the pieces for the PP BOM. Finished the trains quilt for Ina's little brother. He just started talking now because he got cochlear implants so he can finally hear. Ina says his favorite color is blue and he likes trains, so this is his quilt. It looks off square, but that is just the way it is on the floor and where I was standing.

I also virtually quilted with you but I couldn't keep checking back in during teh day to show you what I'd done or I wouldn't have gone back to sewing. Sorry.
I sewed from about 2-6 pm and I make some quilted hearts to add to a border, added them to a border, made some 2.5" squares (10x10) to help use up my 2.5" squares that have overrun m--that finished up all the big blocks that I need to do a QAYG using totally 2.5" squares. |

Didn't get as much done as I expected but did finish 2 big Christmas Stockings. They are going to a group that will be filling them with goodies for soliders. Also sewed about 10 Halloween pillowcases for distribution to local hospital's children's sections. May in Jersey

Got my mystery quilt finished. It is made with childrens fabrics and when quilted will go to Project Linus. It doesn't show up very well in the pic but I though it turned out wonderful. I may just make another one of these. Now I am done for the day.

Didn't get to sew at all yesterday. After lunch, we visited the inlaws and then my mom. Then, went over to the garden property, picked strawberries, tomatoes and dug a hill of potatoes for supper, which we ate at 9:00 pm. I'm really tired today...don't want to go to work.

Never checked back in last night...got totally sidetracked with dinner and a phone call from a dear friend. I did manage to sub cut my Halloween strip sets and hope to get some blocks made today. This was a fun way to spend Sunday and I loved all the updates and project pictures. Thanks, Rachel, for organizing VQD
PokerDiva, I loved your mystery quilt so I went on the link you posted and printed out all the clues/instructions....another project for another day :D Hope everyone has a blessed and productive week, Elke |
Looks like everyone did great! But I have a complaint! You need to give us more notice! It is Monday morning, and I am just finding out about your virtual quilting day. I was working on making pillowcases for a charity yesterday, and I started a Christmas table runner.
Do you have a specific day of the month, like the 3rd Sunday of the month, or whatever? That way I could mark it on my calendar. I don't always get to the "latest posts" section on a weekend. |

Thanks, Krista, I will mark it on my calendar and then look for the reminder. I had so much fun with the one a couple months back, but always seem to be missing them lately.
|
I am going to quilt on a lap robe today.
|
checking in on Mon in TX. No quilting Sunday, it was 96 degrees. Who wants to quilt? I just read a good book.
|
DH and I had a great time at the air show. The Blue Angels are awesome. It was about 6pm when we got home, fixed supper and then worked on an embroidery project. I did get some more blocks cut for the quilt for youngest DS. I thought I would have an entire day to quilt but the day just happened. I had forgotten we had planned to go the the air show.
|
Oh, I missed all the fun! I had too much mowing to do - took 3 hours to finish what I started mowing on Saturday...well, maybe next time!

I really intended to check in yesterday. I read this every time but have not participated. I got so caught up in selecting quilts for a craft show and quilting on two quilts, I completely forgot. So this is what I worked on yesterday. On the Koi quilt I am thread painting the fish in each corner. After I get the orange on, I will go over it with a varigated yellow-orange. The rose trellis quilt has been quilted with just a wavy line on the white bias strips and now I am FMQing leaves on the border. I will also do some thread painting on the flowers on the border.

I just now saw the thread for the Virtual Quilt Day. I have taken part before and loved them! I did get to quilt yesterday, too. I worked on the mystery quilt that Poker Diva made. It was fun. . . . .it would have been more fun with all of you! I just read all of your posts. What fun and lovely projects. Jan in VA, how good you must feel to have made progress on your 'not as easy as it might look' project!

Well, I didn't get anything done on my list except for shopping. I've been fighting off a flu bug and shopping wiped me out. Got home, ate lunch, and crashed on the couch. Stupid flu bug!!
I did manage to gripe at my husband enough about my design wall woes that he's going to let me poke holes in the wall, though. (He was sad to see it had all come down too, he's been unusually interested in this particular quilt design.) And I did find the fabric I need to border my one-block-wonder quilt. So not a COMPLETELY wasted day. :) Feel better!!! |
Well I enjoyed being part of the QB VQD!! It was my 1st one. I managed to get the 2 mini quilts together and worked on handquilting the baby quilt. I know I had threaded each of the 3 needles twice during the time that I worked on it with the average thread length on 10" when knotted. I got 3 of waves done so that was more then my 6" goal. Yeah!!! Now I'm off to see how my layout is working for my son's quilt.

I am so happy everyone got so much done!! :) Just a reminder, the date for the next one will be October 14. I am not sure if we will have a date in Nov or Dec because of the holidays. I know it's hard not to have a more consistent date for our VQDs, but I kinda just choose a date for the next VQD when the current one ends. I homeschool my son, work part time, and re-enact the Revolutionary War, so it's up in the air as to what I am doing on the weekends!! I try to choose a date mid-way through the month, but sometimes that won't work. But remember to save the date for October 14!! :) :) And someone will remind me to post a reminder at the beginning of that week, so hopefully you'll see that if you forget the date!! :) :) :)
Cheers! Rachel |
Just finished making 2 insulated hot pads to match the table runners I made yesterday..2 christmas gifts done!! a table runner w/2 hot pads each!! Without everyone here today it was hard to work as productively as I did yesterday!! Now on to cutting out 2 purses for orders....Then on to working on the never ending hand quilting project..I swear this quilt grows larger when I am not looking!!
|
Before going to bed last night I sat down and quilted another 1/4th of my quilt. I probably should have quit while I was ahead, but it felt great to get so much done. :-)
This is my first attempt at FMQ a real top, but I think I like the looks of the back better. |

Hoping to work on my RR quilt and possibly finish clues 2 and 3 on my knit-a-long on Ravelry. I really would like to work on my Alzheimers quilt. But I think the Christmas presents will win out before I start that. Of course, all this is dependent on what the hubby has planned. Oh, and also how good the puppies are. :)

So sorry I missed this VQD, but had fun reading all the posts and seeing the amazing work accomplished! I've marked my calendar for the next date on October 14th and hope to participate. We just moved from another state so there are still a few boxes to unpack and settling in . . . sure do miss my sewing & quilting!!! We also had an orange tabby - his name was Charlie - yes, he was like a little puppy dog always following me around and such a lovable rascal! Charlie left us almost 2 years ago but is still in our hearts - now is looking down from heaven.

A few posts back, Rachael said Oct 14 for the next one. She usually sets a day for the next, when the current one is wrapping up. And then there's usually a reminder mid-week before the weekend starts.

Today is the day!! Today I am hosting a Virtual Quilt Day. There are no rules. Basically I started this because I was too lazy to lug my sewing machine to the local quilt store for an all day sew-in. So I decided to have a home sew in with all my friends through the internet!! Join in anytime you can today. All you have to do is come here when you start and tell us your goals, then through out the day check in and let us know how you are doing and leave encouragement for others! That's it!! If you can only join us for half a day, that's fine. If you are in a different time zone, that's fine. This is just a loose and fun thing!! I find it helps me to sew more if I am joined by so many other sewers as well!! :)
Okay so here are my goals for the day: 1. Paint a backdrop for taking pictures of my small projects 2. Put together at least 5 of my applique pattern blocks 3. Take pictures of said blocks I made my goals pretty easy, so hopefully I'll have no trouble with them. Granted some is not actual quilting, but I have been wanting to make a cool backdrop for my blocks for a while now, so I figure today is a good day for that!! So what are your goals for today? Cheers! Rachel |
Blocks I made

Late but here are pictures of ther blocks I made.
I made three of each for nine total. I am swapping two sets out in a side swap and I am keeping 3 of them, one of each color way. I am very happy how they turned out and hope the recipients will like theirs. |
Annaquilts!! What bneautiful blocks!! What swap is that for?? They look like Civil War fabrics to me. Is that the Ohio Star patter? I woiuld love to see your finished quilt when done!
|
Pats25 they are are for two Civil War side swaps I am doing with two other people. With one quilter I am swapping three blocks and with another quilter I am swapping multiple blocks but 3 more different patterns all Civil War. Thank you for your kind words. I will definitely post any finnished quilt. I think all or most of the fabrics are Civil War or read like it and that is the Ohio Star.
