I love the utube on the d9p. What is a common size of one square. I know that 9 are sewn together before cutting.
I use 6 1/2? anyone else chime in on this? getting ready to start another one.. before I cut anything love to know what others do. Thanks, Ell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEjZO...eature=channel |
Ell, I've only made one so far (fun!) and I used 5 inch square but I doubt it matters what size you use.
|
The smaller the squares the scrapier and busier it will look. I'd look at my fabrics first and decide how much of the focus fabric (corner pieces of the nine patch) I want to see.:):) 5-7 inch squares is the size I've used the most.

Kinda depends on what size you want the finished block to be and whether you are combining with other blocks, I'd think. If it's all 9 patches, I don't think it matters.

I used a charm pack for mine.
|
I am doing one now and have cut my fabric into 4 inch strips...
|
I'm working on one now and I cut my squares 5 inches, and that will yield a 6.5" finished block. But just for comparison, if you cut your squares 6", you'll yield 8" finished blocks, and if you cut your squares 7", you'll get a 9.5" finished block. Hope this helps some! :-D

I used 5-1/2" because I was using a panel of squares for some of the blocks. It came out great that size. I have another cut out with 5" squares but haven't started assembling that one yet.
I would think the only concern would be using too small of a square because you'd lose a bit of it once it's cut. I don't think I'd go much smaller than 4-1/2". |
