Anyway, let me know what you think. Bought books at Amazon.com yesterday. Still need to get more. I have 2 years to catch up on. DH didn't have a problem with me ordering. I think he thinks that because I'm ordering on line, I'm not spending as much as I used to when I had a LQS to go to. I try to get the amount that gives free shipping. I just order more frequently! Their thread is wonderful and practically lint-free! |
Just received my first order from them on Friday. I was very pleased. A fat quarter sampler, jelly rolls and a few spools of thread. I have no complaints at all. The fabric is great. Not LQS quality but it's not Hancock either in my opinion. For the price it's worth it to me. The thread it great too. I've been using that today too.

I've ordered fabric in the past from CT, found it to be better than JoAnn and a little under Quilt Shop quality. I'm waiting for my order now of Mirage, hoping it will be OK even though they have lowered the price! I, too, like their thread, even on my Tin Lizzie long arm. On the True Cut rotary blade sharpener from Nancy's Notions, I had to wait almost 4 months for delivery, but it really works! Have been waiting 3 months for the Harbor Freight rotary blades, hopefully they will come soon.

i really like thier fabric and kits! never a problem with them, great customer service, prices, shipping.very generous cuts in thier kits too..
and yes, the colors are muted. have not tried the batiks yet. And Yes, America is America, not the USA. i have LQS fabrics, they shred like crazy too.. Made in the USA is a selling ponit in anything i buy..but seriously,if you took out everything in your house, that wasn't made in the US of A, including your food..it would be half empty..or more. i am betting more. i have never been a fabric snob, i just want it to feel nice, and not be able to see my hand behind it. i would suggest anyone who is not confident in picking out coordinating colors to order one of thier kits.the prices for kits are a big plus too. be aware, that as they come out with new lines, eventually the older fabrics lines will run out..just like any other LQS. |
Good Morning from Florida!
I just received an order from Connecting Threads and I'm going to place another order. The fabric is similar to your LQS, but not as pricey (which makes me extremely happy.    ) I don't know about any other online fabric stores to purchase from, but CT is great in my book. |
Take a look at FABRIC SHACK. I have had very good luck with them. at usually great prices.

I order alot of my fabric from Connecting Threads and have always been satisfied. Our nearest JoAnn's is 60 miles away and I much prefer Connecting Threads material to there's. We do have a Ben Franklin that carries material but it almost all the expensive, expensive ones or seconds.
|
I haven't purchased any (yet) but a friend loves their kits. the fabrics in the kits are good quality. I'm thinking of ordering the batik samplers they have in the catalog.

Connecting Threads website says they use 100% US cotton and they display the Cotton USA label. However, all that label means is that the cotton was grown in the US, not that the fabric is made here. In fact, if you read the site carefully, some fabrics clearly state they are printed overseas. The reality is that the fabric probably was not woven in the US, nor printed in the U.S. Does someone have other information that shows otherwise? I can't find anywhere on the site that it says the fabric actually is made in the U.S.

oops-forgot--If you have not tried the Essentials thread it works great for thread painting. I use a combination of Essentials and Marathon in my thread painting. Both reasonably priced, especially when they run a special on them.
Be aware Marathon is a poly thread, but it is great for thread work, has a bit of sheen to it and reflects the light beautifully. |
I just ordered from CT last night. This will be my third or fourth order. I used CT fabric in my round robin. I think the fabric is great. I definitely think it is better than JoAnns and washes up nicely. I think it feels on the thin side, but I think that about Moda too, so I guess it is a matter of preference. I would feel comfortable putting CT fabric in any of my projects. Guess I am not a fabric snob though. I don't use Wal-Mart fabric for much and I go by feel and how it looks after it has been washed to determine if I am going to use fabric in a quilt or not.
ThousandsofBolts has really raised their prices in the last year or so. I find I can get better deals on QS fabric at Fabric.com or other on-line stores. |
Some fabric was very thin, some alot thicker.
|
And I agree...you cannot get a better fabric "feel" for the price, they are extremely good fabrics for the money...
|
I have ordered from Connecting Threads and like the prices although I think the fabric is a little thinner and it seems to ravel more. Maybe it was just what I bought. I have never tried the thread.
|
I love their thread and I buy it in the big color coordinated packages, then I buy the neutrals on the big spools for piecing. Is is a little "linty" on my machine, but I just clean her at every bobbin changing and she is fine.
I've ordered FQ packs and also a kit from them also. I loved the kit (although 1 fabric was cutting it really close to being not enough). Their customer service is over the top...so any place like that...I'll keep buying from them. Its not the quality of my LQS, but it works just fine. |
I have bought from CT several times and have not been disappointed once! The fabrics wash up very nice and keep their color. I wash everything before stored and don't press until ready to cut. Doing alot of Linus Quilts it saves money and still we get a quality blanket to a child with the CT fabrics. I like the fact that they "Theme" and group fabric.
|
If you really want to see what the fabric is like order the packages of charm squares. It is so inexpensive you can see and feel the fabric for a very low price. I ordered charm squares of almost every kind that they have and I am very pleased with what I have. I also like their thread.
Spend what you can afford for your quilts, don't just order expensive fabric because you think you have to in order to make nice quilts - nice quilts can be made with bargain fabric as well. Also I totally disagree with people who say to use cheap, low quality fabric for charity quilts - why in heavens name give something that you think is not good enough for yourself to a charity - if it is not good enough for yourself or your family why is it good enough for someone down on their luck - the money you spend on making that cheap quilt for charity could have bought a nice heavy blanket at Wal-Mart instead. (my opinion but something that really bugs me) |
I love Connecting Threads as well. (Joann's now supplies better quality quilting fabric also...with coupons it cant be beat)
|
I don't mean to knock one place of business or another with this statement, but has anyone ever boughten fabric to find it is so thin after washing - even though you bought it in a fabric shop? there is so much sizing in it - and once washed it was limp and you could see shadow outlines of people through it.......... I've had this happen from JoAnns' as well as some of the most expensive pieces of fabric from well-known manufacturers... so I will not put one down over the other.. I have bought buckoos of fabric, and just love making quilts and throws with them; and I'll bet with my next comment I'll get a lot of boo's but I even use polyesters for quilt tops. When you want a quilt to be able to withstand many washings as for babies, or in nursing homes where much washing is needed, these stand up to a lot of hard wear... yes, they are not the good cotton, but very substantial in use.
|
Very nice 100% American grown cotton > Love that.
|
I have ordered several kits from Connecting Threads and like the fabric and instructions. I think the fabric is closer to a LQS than Joann's. - Cynthia
|
I have not been disappointed with their fabric
|
I get a lot of fabric and books from them. I've always been very happy with the quaility.I like that it a product of USA

i have purchased quite alot of fabric from connecting threads really like everything i have received
|
I did purchase some, and I'm happy with it. Not as nice as 10.99 fabric. good place to get fabric is fabricdepot.com and fabric.com
Their sales are fabulous. Between 4 $ 5 bucks a yard. Wait for their sales, all good brand names. get on their email list. anyone know of another place on line???? |
Jan in Virginia, I respect your comments about the Connecting Threads fabric..........being a former shop owner. Thanks----
I have wondered about it |
Are there any that are 100% USA? I recently worked with beautiful fabric from Robert Kauffman and it was made in China.
|
I like their fabric, and for some reason I prefer the bright fabrics. They seem to have a lot in this last catalog.
|
I have been ordering from CT for some time as well as shopping at LQS. I happen to like all of what I received and their thread is the only kind I use. Now, I am not the most knowledgeable quilter around, but what I do know is this fabric makes beautiful quilts. I store it with all of my other stash, and when I'm picking my fabrics for a quilt, I don't look and say, oh this is from CT, keep looking !!! It is nice fabric
|
Thanks everyone for this post. I now have some online companies to look at. Just getting started and reading all I can get my eyes on. I had no idea fabric was so different. Just called my hubby to go to Harbor fright and look for blades. I use them in my scrap book craft also.
|
I emailed the Connecting Threads catalog to my daughters to shop from for me. The prices are good, the quality is good, and the service is good. Sometimes they complain that I am hard to buy for, so figured I would help them a little, even sent them my wish list. How good is that?
|
I buy from them all the time and I have never been disappointed I also use their thread and it is great too.
|
I am working on a quilt right now that I purchased as a kit from CT. Great price for the kit and I was very impressed with the quality of the material and they certainly were not skimpy with the amount of fabric!!
Even after making some cutting mistakes (oops!)I will probably have enough fabric left over to make a table runners, small wall hangings etc. Also have been pleased with the thread I have purchased from them. Cindy |
I order from Connecting Threads, love their specials.
|
I purchased some when they first started business and wasn't very pleased. Has their fabric changed, I'm afraid to try them again.
|
I have bought several kits and yardage and have never been disappointed. I think it is superior to Hancocks and JoAnns. Just my opinion!
They have some great sales on kits from time to time and have bought several of them too! |
I have never had any problems with connecting threads fabric and I would grade them higher than joannssss.

I totally agree. And it needles nicely for hand quilting. I compare it to Benartex fabrics.

And this from a former quilt shop owner who was/is a fabric snob, LOL! |
