I use Aurifil 50 wt, 2 ply, and love it. It's just kinda expensive. So whilst I was looking online for a deal, I came across Connecting Threads' thread (seems redundant)
http://www.connectingthreads.com/thr...g_threads.html Big difference is that it's 3 ply, but still 50 wt. Has anyone used it and liked it? Didn't like it? Can anyone compare with Aurifil? I went to tristan.bc.ca which has great deals on Aurifl but they're out of black... in every weight! |
Their tread is top notch. I NEVER get broken thread while sewing. It's 50 weight and the colors are great. There's no sheen to it so looks at place on cotton. I'm now quilting with batiks and their colors do not get lost in the background. I want the hues to stand out and compliment the batiks. Can't beat the prices either.

I have used the connecting thread thread but not for quilting. I did like it and it was very nice quality. I also use Aurifil for piecing and I love it! I use King Tut thread for my quilting.
I LOVE Connecting Threads thread. I have them in most every color. You cannot beat the price, either, especially when they are having a sale.
Thank you all! I just ordered a set of 5 (5 for the price of 1.25 Aurifils! How crazy!) so I feel a lot better. That would be great if it works as well/better than Aurifil... the savings would be huge. Thank you :)
I tried this thread and liked it so I ordered the big cones of the neutral colors for piecing. The money I saved using this thread I ordered the beautiful thread stand to put my cone on!

I bought some on the recommendation of people here on the board for a rag time and was very happy with the thread. Especially happy with the price. Good quality 100% cotton thread is so expensive.
I have connecting thread products as well and have had no problems with what I have used (several spools not yet opened) I bought several spools when they had a deal on the collections
I forgot to mention in my last post that one downfall with the thread is that after you open it you have no idea what color thread it is. So I make a little label with my label maker and put it on the inside of the spool. It is tricky but so far it is working.

I have one complaint about the thread. The wrapper is hard to get off for me. I messed up a spool using a seam ripper to open the wrapper and cut into the threads. My fingers can't tear the wrapper away.
The thread I just got from them had no wrapper on it with the color. The group was just in a plastic bag. I wonder if they heard all the complaints, but unless I can figure out the names how do I know the colors? Maybe I'll use the labels on the inside or just write it with fine tip sharpie. I thought it was rather odd that they were just jumbled up loose in a plastic bag but not having ordered from them before this, I didn't know what to expect.

My thread set came in a shrink wrapped package with each spool wrapped in a clear plastic wrapper. I've never gotten a thread set with loose spools in a plastic bag but I haven't ordered a new thread set in awhile

A few months ago, I bought a lot of Essential Thread from Connecting Threads. I haven't opened or used any yet, but I plan to use vinyl strips on those spools and cones also, with the thread color label enclosed under the vinyl. I can tell you that it works like a charm! The vinyl is not expensive and a little goes a long way. |

Wendy B I once got some medication with the bottle and the pills in a zip loc bag. It was many years ago, but if that happened today, I would be on the horn. I wouldn't take them if they had been opened, but that has nothing to do with your thread. That's just really weird. I have ordered a good size box of their thread and i love it too. All mine were individually wrapped in cellophane with the numbers and name of the color etc. I wouldn't like it, if I received something that was jumbled up like you described. i would call them. I believe they would be very helpful. |

Wendy B If it was mine, I'd call and tell them; do you still have the order number and information? |
I have the info, I got it last week. I ordered 3 thread collections (DH had given me $$ specifically for thread for Christmas) and I received 3 plastic bags with the spools of thread in them. They were not even marked as to which collection they were because I had to go back to the website and compare the colors. None of them look like they have been opened but since I had never ordered anything from them, I guess I didn't really know what to expect. Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

I love Connecting Threads thread. It is about all I use now. Great thread at a great price.
Great tip about the vinyl. Does it matter whether it is the lighter or heavier weight vinyl?

i love connecting threads!! their thread is very economical. i have about 4 of their sets, of course most of the colors are still shrinkwrapped but oh well!! they have great customer service and their material is made in the usa!! go ahead and order some stuff, i don't think you'll be disappointed
Has anyone used the thread for free motion quilting? It seems only some brands work very well in the high speed situation of freemotion on a frame. Always looking for a bargain so need to know!
I use Thread Socks for on my cone thread. It fits every spool or cone perfect.
Here is picture of it: http://www.backdoorquiltshoppe.com/c...cking5=froogle |

weezie- thanks for the tip!
It is a good thread, but my Janome isn't happy with it; as it is a thicker thread than some others.
funny you should ask??? I'm using it to quilt a quilt now on the Grace frame. I like the thread but it is linty. I have to clean out the fuzz every once in awhile. I use just about everything tho...superior, aurifil, YLI, etc

I'm not that fussy with thread but do use 100% cotton when machine stitching. I've found that it's not really whether or not I like the thread, my machine has the final say. Both my machines, Viking and Janome, like Aurifil and Connecting Threads equally so I'm with you, get as much as you can for your money!
I just purchased some. I got the neutrals package . I got it packaged together and in a box. I will order it again in a heartbeat. I go through a lot of black thread and this worked just fine. A little linty but not bad. It never broke on me at all. So I would say order and enjoy. As a matter of fact the reason I ordered it is because so many people on here said they had and liked it.
Connecting thread is all I use for sewing blocks together. When quilting on the longarm it produces too much lint, so I don't use it on the longarm
I bought a set of the thread for myself because it was on sale and it was very nice, so I put it on my Christmas List. DH got me the largest set and one more set, and my MIL also gave me a set. They found a wooden spool holder at Joanns which was filled up quickly. I love the colors, and when Connecting Threads warned that the sale was ending, I order the remaining 2 sets, so now I have enough thread to last a very long time, and I have any color I can imagine I would ever need.
(BTW: I ordered and received the last sets in January this year and each spool was individually wrapped and then each set was wrapped. Nothing was loose.) I also find them difficult to open. Linda |
I have their thread also and really like it. I cut off the little lable from the wrapping and stick it inside the spool so I know what the color was if I want to reorder. I don't use it for machine quilting but do use it for piecing and love it!
Clean the lint, got it. I'm pretty bad... one of my resolutions is to be better about that, since my machine deserves clean innards :D so this thread will help me be more aware of that
I use it all the time and like it. It doesn't leave as much lint in my machine as I used to have. It is only 1.99 per spool and last along time.
hi i have been using there thread a long time, i love it plus all there fabric is made here in the US all american grown cootton % of it. i have many of there quilt kits too and give as gifts also gift cards. weze
This last December I bought all the sets of threads (70 spools) they had for myself and Daughter. I just peel off the cellophane and don't worry about reordering, figure I have enough to last me awhile. I used it for FMQ and it worked just fine. Love it and the price.
