What an awesome idea! Thank you. I have a fall wallhanging on my Tin Lizzie long arm right now and I was trying to figure out how to do pumpkin outlines on it. I can't wait to go home and raid my cookie cutter collection! I love this site!

I've used cooky cutters as stensils for hand quilting. They work great for that, too.

I also have used those thin wooden shapes from the craft stores...they come in all shapes and sizes and are around 25 cents each.

My all time favorite cookie cutters are the Wilton pink plastic graduated hearts at Valentine's Day time. I've gotten them at Walmart and Kroger after Valentine's Day at half price or less, and given them with a quilt where I used them. I have used them for the pattern for applique. If you turn them over, the little lip is about 1/4 " larger than the center. I've also used then for quilting patterns, and the several sizes will fit on almost any border, etc.

If we look around at some everyday things we might find a lot of shapes and/or designs that could be translated into a quilt. Children's coloring books have some great animal and other shapes.
Even some packaging can produce nice designs. I picked up some metal washers at Home Depot that are great for several circle objects.
