Went to MQX in Providence RI last week and took a class from Dustin Farrell on Radical Rulers with the Long Arm. As he was whipping along someone asked about the ruler slipping. His response kind of blew me away.
He laughed - and commented it was nothing that a little "old fashion" Rubber Cement would not solve - he continued to say that all you need to do is spread a little rubber cement on the back of the ruler and let it dry completely. The up side of this technique is that it is cheap, easy to see through, rubs off the ruler easily and will not harm the fabric. I tried this today on one of my rulers and it worked fantastically!! Best I can see is that it is a win win situation. I have tried the clear rubber stick ones (which were thick, the ruler did not grip where I need it to continuously along the edge because it was not flat and and only worked sometimes) , the sand paper ones (which blocked the visual on the seams) and others - but this is so easy, the ruler stayed flat and I could see through it. Try it you will be amazed! |
I have glue drops from an electric craft glue gun on mine.

Thanks for that great tip.

Good ole rubber cement, have used it for years!
|
I have invisigrip on most of my rulers, but found that if you put some Press and Seal from Glad on your little square ruler and completely smooth it out, and then remove it..... it also makes the ruler non-slip, but a little cloudy.

Great tips. Thanks everyone!

Everyone on the May Swap may wind up getting rubber cement.
|
Does anyone know what that clear rubbery stuff they use to attach ads sometimes is. It peels right off but it sticks til you peel it.
It seems like it must be some form of rubber cement but not yellowy. |
A friend of mine told me that about 2 months ago. It works great!
|
Please what is rubber cement?
|
I dont remember ! LOL
I did it years ago, I may have used a popsickle stick to press down on it. OOPS forgot to quote - this is in reponse to how to keep hot glue thin. |
It is an old-fashioned adhesive in a small brown glass jar with a lid which has the brush stuck to the inside of the lid. It is grayish-transulcent and gooey, and is great for photographic projects or other paper-paste-ups. If you smear it outside the edges of the paper, when it dries you can rub it off. when it dries it looks rubbery. It has what are called volative compounds for drying purposes so don't breathe it in.
In fact I think they used to make it in a spray form for photography purposes. Wonder if they still do. I don't know much about quilting but I can glue, baby, glue! |
I'll have to find my little bottle....can't wait to give it a try! Thanks!
|
I need to give that a try.
|
Hey, I was at MQX last week also!! Thanks for the tip about the rubber cement; I have some at home leftover from my paper crafting days, so I'm going to give that tip a try. I have tried both the Invisagrip and the sandpaper on my rulers but wasn't thrilled by either of those options.
|
Wow! I haven't used rubber cement for years, but I am off to buy some now. Thanks for the great tip.

Gotta try this one, thanks for the tip!
