Did some research on the internet and did find an article that said to use Mod Podge to make it washable. I would think that would help secure the fabric to make it less of a fire hazard. I also would think that the fabric should be trimmed back to just barely wrap over the edge of the plate to keep the fabric away from the wiring.

I also did this several years ago, but I did modge podge on
my switch plate, worked great!

Thanks for posting. I really like this, never thought of it. Think I'll try it soon. Those designer plates are EXPENSIVE and probably it's easier to find fabric to personalize them. (certainly more choices)

After I cover this with fabric, I recover it with a clear vinyl and then I can wipe it off and not have to worry about it.
