I was wondering about this as well. You may want to consider a small solid border first, then piece your leftovers together to make another border.
It is amazing what can be done with a simple 9-patch that looks really complicated. Good fabric choices for this one.
Be sure to post pictures...at least when you get the top all together!

I love your pattern and colors. Like others have requested I would love to see more pictures.When you put the two original blocks together did you sew all around the outside before you cut it diagonally?
