debating on border
2 Attachment(s)
'Summer Breeze' is the name of the fabric line. This quilt is made from 2 charm packs and some yardage. Most of my quilts are bed size, small or large.
This one I like just the blue border, but when I want it bigger I could add the appliqué border and the corners are made with left over cut off triangles. i am not sure if the appliqué goes well with this quilt. Assurance, advise, suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |
I like the applique very much with the quilt. It provides a lot of interest with the geometric angular pattern in the middle and then flowing applique on the border. Two suggestions: I would consider making the applique flowersand leaves bigger. I would consider using an applique flower for the corner also.
This is a beautiful quilt. Any of the choices you've shown will work. |
I like the blue border the best.
I think it depends on what you want. Without the applique border, it's a pretty lap quilt, perfect for a family room perhaps - where it will get lots of use and possibly tossed about a bit. Love the colors you used. With the appliqued border, you've made it larger and really makes it a "wow" quilt. With the applique, though, you'd want to handle it a bit more gently. And while it really takes it up to the next level, maybe you don't want/need another large quilt.

Oh my gosh!! I love the blue border with the applique and pieced corners!!!!!!!!!
i definitely like the applique border
I love this with the applique and pinwheel corners. (I'm assuming you'd have the applique borders on all sides?)
Love the applique border and love the corner blocks!! As MJP suggested, I would try to make the applique a little larger to fit across the width of the bottom and the length of the vertical.
I'm also wondering how it would look with a small (same size as blue border) white border on the outside of the other two edges to "even out" the white border. |
I love the appliqued border.
I love love love the appliqué border. I don't like the pinwheels in the corner though. Maybe if it were just the one set of four pinwheels in the corner instead of three sets of four?
Sorry, I feel harsh saying I don't like something, but then I remind myself that you are free to ignore me if you like them! |
oh I love the border you are thinking of. very imaginative of you. Love it!!
Perfect with your choice of appliqué and pieced corner blocks!
Yes,yes, yes, the applique and pinwheel border is a must....beautiful!
Pretty quilt! I like the applique but I am not fussy about the pinwheels in the corners. Maybe if you used the same pieced pattern from the center rather then introducing another pattern I might like it better? I think I would use applique flower swag in the corners too. I love your blue flowers, they remind of forget-me-nots one of my favourite flowers.
Another vote for the applique with pinwheels! Very pretty!

Me too! They add so much interest to the quilt. |
I like the applique. I'd even put another blue border around that.
I like the floral applique border, beautiful quilt.

Either way it's a beauty! Personally I like the added interest of the appliqué borders. It just depends on what you like.
Applique border without the corner pinwheels and finish it off with a blue binding. Beautiful.

i loved the appliqued border & the pinwheels! Is there any way you could add more flowers so they extend to cover the rest of the white border to the edges? Love your work!
thank you all for you input, advise and suggestions. All taken well. I am not sure of the pinwheels, but since it was made from charm packs I do not have enough fabric to make more blocks, pinwheels are cut off's from making these blocks and I do not have the blue fabric anymore. will try to find it on the web since it would make a nice binding (I do run into this kind of problems quite often). If I do not use the pinwheels then I will have to applique more flowers for the corners and borders........ . Thank you, again.
I Love the pinwheels in the corner and the offset layout! Perfect just the way you have it... unless you want to add a little more applique to what is already there.
Please leave the pinwheels in! Sheer genius.
I like the applique border. MY thought is that the pinwheels throw it off somehow. Maybe if you did an applique setting in the corners it would look better. Love that you are using everything from the quilt top, I am distracted by them.
I really like the way you have it.
I love the appliqué and I think it makes a pretty quilt beautiful. I think it would look great to put the appliqué around the corners do the same in the opposite corner and not use the pieced corners. The pieced corners take away from the nice piecing of the quilt but the appliqué adds to it. Don't know if I am good at explaining this after reading it. I am saying swag the appliqué on opposite corners, it would be beautiful!
I love the embroidered border on it. Beautiful quilt.
I think the applique border adds a lot to the quilt, but don't care for the busyness of the pinwheels. What about a partial pieced "ribbon" border with the applique? You could use some of the fabrics you have in the applique for the ribbon; any similar colors would work just fine.
The appliqué is perfect for your quilt...I like the accent of the pinwheels but just an an accent as a surrounding pinwheel border would be too busy for your quilt. Beautiful fabric collection.
Oh, I love the flowers!!!!

I love the quilt and I love the way the additions are only on two sides. Very interesting. I think the applique and corner pinwheels look wonderful. Very interesting! |

I think the applique really adds something to your quilt. I am not sure you need the pieced corners. I think maybe a looped vine with a small flower applique would be more in keeping with the quilt. I really love your colors and it is perfectly pretty with just the blue border, but that applique is really special.
I agree with Mitty-love the appliqué and I think 4 pinwheels in each corner would look best. Your work is beautiful!
I really like the applique boarder. Not too keen on the pinwheels. I think I would just extend the white boarder, or extend the applique "around the corner". I'd bind in the blue. (I assume you would do the applique border on all four sides.) Such a lovely quilt. I do some applique on most of my quilts. Even it is just on the label on the back, but think it makes a pretty quilt beautiful when in the border!
The border in my avatar is appliqued. I did NOT do a good job with the corner. I should have perhaps rounded it off, and probably added a bit of "something" It looks VERY off balance as it is. Oh well, live and learn! |
I like the appliqued border. The other one seems too busy.
I agree with this post!
