My DH decided to take it upon himself and sharpen my scissors I use for everyday stuff. Well now I can't even cut water with them. I have tried everything, tin foil, sos pad, even made him take them back to the garage to do his thing with it. No results. I am at my wits end. Don't know what to do

oh no, that is not good, guess you need to lock up your scissors from hubby
I am sure he was trying to help you but ..... |
Find someone who know how to sharpen scissors. Ask at your local barber shop or hair salon. They will probably know of someone. Or have DH buy you a new pair.
|
Go to walmart or suuch and buy a new pair of cheap scissors to use for everyday stuff Throw away when dull and buy new

Some sew shops do it. What the heck did he use?

Does your closest Joann Fabrics (or other fabric store?) have a "scissor guy" who comes in periodically to sharpen good scissors?
And would you look at this - a Google ad for "Scissors Sharpened" just happened to appear above the reply box. :? "Hair styling scissors returned to factory new cutting condition." The phrase "hair styling" is actually in the ad. I hate tracking cookies. And google. |
The owner of a quilt shop told me how she goes to a dollar store for scissors. They're sharp for awhile and then she can throw them away because they were so cheap.

My dad was a logger for many years. He was used to sharpening chain saw teeth. I reluctantly left my Ginghers with him, and when I got them back they were better than new. I turned around and gave him all of my kitchen knives, and OMG, what a difference! So, go find your self a logger. :-)  :-D

I had my good Singer scissors sharpened at a sewing shop...and after that they were worse than before..took them back..they tried again...even worse...i think you have to know how to do it and this guy certainly didn't...I was told by the store that it was my scissors that were the problem??? they were good scissors..$40 over 35 years ago...i just let it go but I was really upset...it must not be that easy???

Give him the scissors to keep practicing on and go buy another pair. There are some quality sharp scissors now that do not cost very much. The package of Fiskars sold at Sam's Club in the office section, cut as good as my Ginghers.
