Diamonds or no diamonds ...

1 Attachment(s)
Last year I did one of the swaps and requested the "Louisiana" block from Quilter's Cache.

Now I'm in the process of squaring up some of the swap blocks (know some are so wonky I'll have to make more to substitute in their place as there isn't hope of saving them
:() and put the diamonds up to see how they look to break up the white spaces where the blocks join. These are black with little white flowers on them, not solid as they look in the photo.

I'll have to sew a corner on all 4 sides of each block if I want this effect...essentially a snowball block. More work but I think I like it

Opinions of yeah or nay on corners with the black added please.

I like it with the black corners. It adds more interest I think. Very pretty.

btiny36 10-25-2015 12:55 PM

It certainly adds more interest. I would if it were mine find a color less dark and snowball the corners or go scrappy with colors that closely match all the colors in the block....But either way it does add more interest with snowballing the corners

Tiggersmom 10-25-2015 12:58 PM

YES, add the corners.

Tartan 10-25-2015 01:00 PM

I like the black squares. Exchange blocks almost always vary in sizes.

sewingitalltogether 10-25-2015 01:04 PM

Me too. I like the black square corner pieces.

toverly 10-25-2015 01:06 PM

I vote for the black diamonds. Looks great.

zozee 10-25-2015 01:09 PM

Yeas. It really adds a whole second pattern. I might play with other colors as briny suggested. Cut out as many random scrappy squares from the fabrics you cut black, then cover up the black ones to see the effect. I'd like to see that variation before deciding.

Prism99 10-25-2015 01:16 PM

I like the black corners -- definitely worth the extra work. I would save a place on the back for the wonky blocks. Makes the back more interesting.

Texas_Sue 10-25-2015 01:19 PM

I really like it with the 2nd block. Very nice scrappy quilt!

I like the diamonds too.

bjchad 10-25-2015 01:43 PM

I really like the snowballed version and think the black (or at least the same color throughout) unifies the quilt. It'll be a lovely quilt when finished.

BETTY62 10-25-2015 01:46 PM

Oh yes, do add the black blocks. They will make your quilt look awesome.

Bree123 10-25-2015 02:05 PM

Diamonds, for sure!

sewingsuz 10-25-2015 03:06 PM

I like the black corners also.

QuiltE 10-25-2015 03:45 PM

I like the black snowball effect. It adds even more interest with a nice secondary pattern.

However, I am like BTiny36 ... and find the black a bit strong in that it pulls my eyes to them, and less focus to the pinwheels. If it were me, I think I would try a TOT or mottled charcoal, or something similar.

I would definitely stick to one fabric, so that the scrappy pinwheels can remain the superstars of the quilt!

QuiltnNan 10-25-2015 05:14 PM

i like the black corners, but it also looks great without

cowgirlquilter 10-25-2015 05:19 PM

Love the addition of black corners.......

ManiacQuilter2 10-26-2015 06:04 AM

I too like the black corners. Thanks for posting this quilt. I have been trying to find something that looks like a prop on an old airplane and I think this block will work! THANKS.

MissSongbird 10-26-2015 06:09 AM

I really like the diamonds. It gives it a little something extra.

Altairss 10-26-2015 06:25 AM

Love the diamonds make it visually add more movement. Very nice!

Snooze2978 10-26-2015 09:15 AM

I love it with the black added. Makes another surprise block.

ILoveToQuilt 10-26-2015 03:13 PM

I vote "Yay" for the black corners. Love the blocks either way, though.

nativetexan 10-26-2015 03:50 PM

oh with the diamonds. definitely. look great!!

hudgoddess 10-26-2015 06:24 PM

The black diamonds make the quilt. Yes, yes, yes!!!

DOTTYMO 10-26-2015 11:16 PM

Love both patterns but the one with corner stones gives that little bit extra to the whole design.

BettyGee 10-27-2015 04:12 AM

Love the addition of the black, it makes everything else pop.

maviskw 10-27-2015 04:34 AM

Since I don't really care for all the white in modern quilts, I would certainly add the black. You will be pleased with it the rest of your life if you put that extra work into it now.

lindaschipper 10-27-2015 05:20 AM

Voting for the black blocks to be added....very pretty layout.

MarthaT 10-27-2015 05:50 AM

I like the black, but I think it is too much to do it on every corner. How about doing it on every other one? Half the work and, maybe, twice the impact.

annette1952 10-27-2015 06:00 AM

Yeah on the black snowball corners. Looks great!

Jordan 10-27-2015 06:01 AM

I really like the black diamonds in the corners and I don't think it takes away from your beautiful quilt. Diamonds are small enough that they don't take away from your colorful blocks.

trolleystation 10-27-2015 06:32 AM

I like the black corners. Make the quilt 'pop'.

Mariposa 10-27-2015 06:52 AM

Yes, for the diamonds in the corners. Though I might audition other colors to see which is best liked.......jmho..

gram2five 10-27-2015 07:27 AM

I vote to keep the diamonds. They don't detract from your pinwheels, but do make the whole thing pop.

carolynjo 10-27-2015 07:41 AM

I, too, like the black corners. I like Prism's idea also. Pretty quilt.

omaluvs2quilt 10-27-2015 08:00 AM

Definitely stick to the black corners, BAM!!!

jclinganrey 10-27-2015 08:00 AM

Yes, add the diamonds and consider using a variety of colors. Looks great!!!

Three Dog Night 10-27-2015 09:02 AM

Definitely add the corner blocks - I like the black against the white.

fayeberry 10-27-2015 09:20 AM

Much better with the black. Lovely quilt!
