Did you gift anything quilty to yourself?

Just wondering if quilters ask for certain quilty things for Christmas or would you rather purchase/pick out your own quilt stuff.
I gifted myself 3 Craftsy classes at 50% off and got a Jo-Anns gift card from my enabler daughter who complains about too much fabric in my possession. I don't have any quilters in my immediate family that exchanges gifts...so for me, I prefer to buy my own.

Since I am my own Santa, 'Santa' got me a Featherweight 221. Merry Christmas to me!!!

I asked Santa for some stocking stuffers ... Sewer's Aid and some sewing machine needles. Of course quite a few years ago Santa surprised me with my sewing machine that I didn't know I needed or wanted and created the monster I am today! :)

Merry Christmas all!

garysgal 12-25-2013 02:00 PM

Since we recently moved from one state to another, I haven't had a chance to do any quilting. After my husband moved all my tubs of fabric, he said I definitely wasn't getting any for Christmas! I did get some quilting magazines and one jelly roll that I picked out myself and he wrapped. ( I really, really needed it! lol)

arowana 12-25-2013 02:12 PM

I'm new to all this just starting out...so iasked myself for a self healing board rottory cutter and quilting ruler..i must have been a good girl as i got exactly what i wanted so onward and forward

Rodney 12-25-2013 02:33 PM

Nothing specifically for Christmas but I've been hitting the thrifts and buying sewing stuff pretty often lately. That's close enough for me. I like vintage machines and thrift stores in general so I've been having a lot of fun with this.

Love those Joann's gift cards! I can pick out what I need, plus get a 40-50% discount. It's free and it's a win- win situation.

carolaug 12-25-2013 02:38 PM

SANTA bought me the 36 inch ruler...love it. I rec'd areally nice camera this year so no other sewing stuff...my sewingroom is full so I think I am ok.

Sunnye 12-25-2013 02:54 PM

I told my husband and sons exactly what I wanted. Only one slip up; I knew what I meant but not my son!
I got a new Brother DreamWeaver machine, thread, Tent Makers of Cairo book, and other quilty things.

Aren't they great!

Nammie to 7 12-25-2013 03:38 PM

I gifted myself a Kitchen Aide mixer -- it is candy apple red and I love it!! I think I have every gadget known to man and all the fabric and patterns I need or want (until the next really beautiful design catches my eye)!

mighty 12-25-2013 04:12 PM

DOTTYMO 12-25-2013 04:21 PM

I have had a pin cushion from Santa but I purchased for myself fanric before the day as I have 2 weeks of my local shop closed.

HouseDragon 12-25-2013 04:26 PM

Santa gifted me a Pig Out when Connecting Threads had a fabulous sale a month or so ago. :D

Gladygirl 12-25-2013 05:29 PM

I received an Ott table lamp, an Ott floor lamp, and laptop computer--made my day. Now if my DD will just show me how to operate the laptop--too many bells and whistles to comprehend today. At least I can SEE what I can't do!!!!!!

AngeliaNR 12-25-2013 05:36 PM

I got a Gizmo, a shape cut ruler, a Hancock gift card, and several yards of wool blends! Santa was good to me. :)

Bevsie 12-25-2013 05:37 PM

My Babylock Crescendo I came home with end of September was my gift to me and from my DH for Christmas! I got a nice Visa card from my sons so I can use it in any quilt shop or online or Joann's etc.

MaryStoaks 12-25-2013 05:45 PM

I shopped for me at the Black Friday sale online at Connecting threads. I bought 7 fat quarter bundles and only spent $95 with free shipping too.

LAQUITA 12-25-2013 06:19 PM

I gifted myself some Crafty classes (hubby gave me some more) and thread from CT.
I'm set now for winter.....hahah we live in Texas. No winter just wishing :)

sushi 12-25-2013 07:03 PM

As I mentioned in another thread, I asked my husband for jelly rolls. Knowing nothing about pre-cuts, he gave me 10 charm packs. (He's a wonderful man, but he tends not to notice details.)

Based on marvelous advise provided here on the QB, I ordered all four of Pat Speth's books and bookmarked several websites offering intriguing patterns. Pat's books are my "to Sue, from Sue" gifts.

I told my hubby I wanted one of those big Mega Ironing Boards, Fed -X delivered it Christmas Eve. I love it! My birthday was the 14th and he gave me $100.00 for fabric. I could'nt be any happier!

MacThayer 12-25-2013 07:15 PM

I was gifted with a new, updated sewing machine, but I can't tell you what it is because part of the deal is that I have to pick it out myself. This will be the first sewing machine I've had a chance to choose. Up until now, I used my mother's sewing machine until it died; and then my Great Aunt died and left me her machine, and I've since inherited two more machines, only 1 of which is still working. I'm going to take my time searching for this Beauty of a Christmas present! I want to try out virtually every brand on the market before I make a "final decision". Yeah!

Scissor Queen 12-25-2013 07:21 PM

Since I don't need fabric, machines or gadgets I put a really, really nice watch on layaway. It's expensive enough that it'll take most of my first tax season, part time job paycheck to pay for it!

Stiffchick 12-25-2013 10:36 PM

I went to my LQS and signed up for a class. My hubby has been bugging me to get out of the house and meet people. I told him what I wanted, the look on his face alone told me I should go get it myself and then let him know what a wonderful thoughtful husband he was lol.

juneayerza 12-25-2013 11:05 PM

Joann's had a 50% sale and I gifted myself a 'Steady Betty'

ILoveToQuilt 12-26-2013 04:36 AM

Batting...50% off at JAF, so I bought 2 yards of 90" Pellon cotton.

I asked for GC's from fabric stores last year and was heard. They were wonderful. We haven't had our Family Christmas this year yet--will be on the 28th--but I repeated the request and hope to get more.

My DH gifted me with a Kobo Arc yesterday. He said he was a bit worried that I would be intimidated with all its features and promised that he would not get annoyed when I asked him for the 10th time, how to do something he just showed me yesterday. This is a little reader that doubles as a tablet. I can access the internet, download patterns, magazines as well as books to it, watch tutes on youtube on it......oh my oh my!! I've already downloaded the newest Fons and Porter mag and it works a treat!

Oh and I always manage to find some 'small' gift to give to my sewing room. ;)

kathyd 12-26-2013 05:34 AM

I did some on-line shopping and when things arrived my DH wrapped them. I got just what I wanted--a rotating cutting mat, small loc-block ruler, a jelly roll, 2 charm packs and a new pair of 5" scissors. Also got 2 new quilting books, because I think I have a bigger obsession with books than fabric!
Merry Christmas and Happy sewing in 2014 everyone!

katesnanna 12-26-2013 05:52 AM

I gifted myself the new Janome 15000. Won't get it until February but intend getting more embroidery done on my MC 10000 until it arrives. Very excited. Merry Christmas to me.

MaryKatherine 12-26-2013 05:57 AM

Yep! Just before the sales ended I bought some batting and material from Connecting Threads.

My mother gave me a gift card to Misspuri Star Quilt Co. Yeah for me!

Reba'squilts 12-26-2013 06:01 AM

I received a few notions that I was requesting on my list. I also received enough money to buy a special sewing table I am lookin at, Kangaroo Tasmanian cutting / sewing table. Am almost crazy trying to make up my mind. I was also looking at the sew perfect table. Anyone have either of these tables?

Abby'smom 12-26-2013 06:19 AM

I went to the used book store and found a book on machine quilting techniques -- looked like something I could learn to do!!:D

JenelTX 12-26-2013 06:39 AM

Yes, I bought myself a thread holder from Superior Threads, and I'm in love with it! No more pulling up off the spool when the thread gets low.

Taughtby Grandma 12-26-2013 07:22 AM

I belong to a great family of enablers. They gave me JoAnn's gift cards!! Hi ho it's off to shop I go! lol

Geri B 12-26-2013 07:31 AM

Yes went to joann fab and bought the bolt of w&n that was 50% off. Looked at other "cotton" batting that was there, but just don't trust any of it....never had a prob w/w&n so why switch........

Chiclet1 12-26-2013 07:59 AM

My husband got me a Juki F600 and everyone else gave me money to put towards all the little extras I could possibly desire! :) Also got two kits from Connecting Threads! Now if I can just manage to find the time to play...:)

mckwilter 12-26-2013 08:11 AM

Since my birthday is also in December, I have to make sure and differentiate between the two so that I always get two gifts from my DH. For my birthday, I got the circular attachment for my Bernina 440 and have been having fun doing circles. I have made a bunch of coasters / hot pot holders. One of my bosses always gives me a birthday gift, so I purchased the #55 leather foot (of course, I waited until the accessories were on sale). For Christmas, my son's family gave me a GC to the LQS. With that and the gifts my bosses gave me, I will be able to get 3 other feet (couching, FM couching and pintucks) and have enough left over to pay for a retreat I am planning to attend in April.

RonieM 12-26-2013 08:53 AM

This is the first year I have not bought something quilty for myself for Christmas. I gave my hubby my list and he did wonderfully. He bought the binding foot/attachment for my Bernina when it was on sale, ordered an LED light strip to go on my sewing machine (this is the first time he has ordered online without my help), and got me a Rowenta DG5030 Pro Iron Steam Station. I am a very lucky girl!!

susie-susie-susie 12-26-2013 08:58 AM

I ordered a bolt of batting before Christmas. I plan to finish more of my UFO's hanging in my closet (about a dozen). Then my DH gave me cash for Christmas and stressed that I was to spend it on myself. No problem!!! I went to bed last night with images of fabric dancing in my head. Then I woke up to tons of eMails from shops enticing me to spend spend spend. I had to stop reading the ads. lol I have to think before I spend, but the sales are wonderful. I am thinking of buying the Horizon 7700 while the financing is interest free. My Janome is about 11 years old, and I love her. I don't NEED a new machine, but I WANT one. Is that enough reason to get a new machine? I keep thinking about all the things I would have to learn to use the new machine!!

I asked DH for a Gift Certificate to the LQS so I could put it towards paying for my Spring Quilt Retreat. I know he hates shopping anyway and often gets me a Gift Card so I made it even easier by telling him where I wanted a Gift Card for. He gave me a Gift Card for that LQS and I went there today and used it to pay for my Spring Retreat. My mother gave me some cash for Xmas so I spent that there because they had 30% off everything today. Got some fabric to make myself a throw quilt. (I hardly make quits for myself--seems they are always given away as gifts to other people--like the 5 quilts I made for people for Xmas gifts).
