Yep, Quilt E, it's the only one left in the area. Markdale closed about 7 years ago, Shelburne went to online only during Covid, We even lost our Fabriclands in Orangeville and Owen Sound.
Threads that Bind in Maxwell, will be hosting a Log Cabin Extravaganza in a local arena in May. It will not be a juried show, instead viewers' choice in each catagory will win a prize. |

Yes a lot are gone. Likewise in this area too. Though you do have the one in Stayner now. Have you been to it? I haven't. Not "really" close for you but somewhat. And Creemore, too. Haven't been to it for a long time. Always liked Markdale, when I was up that way. The "new" one in Shelburne didn't last long. Come to think of it, is the "new(er)" one in Orangeville still open? Let me know when the Extravaganza event happens, and I just might get there! |
THIS is why I love this quilting board. Look how hard members try to help no matter how elusive the pattern or vague the description. Sorry, GingerK, I have no log cabin breakthrough for you but have loved seeing the examples people have found.

This is like the ball shaped one that Workbench posted, but only one block.
it has a dark center much like you described...so ....maybe?? jenny doan at MSQ did a tutorial years ago... https://saidwithlove.com.au/curved-log-cabin-tutorial/ pinterest has more here (scroll down) https://www.pinterest.com/pin/178103360266654205/ It might help to search for 'offset log cabin block' |
I'm so glad you asked this question.
I found some new, fun & interesting log cabin variations to try like this one called stairs https://mywebquilter.com/blockpatter..._by_skill.aspx and this one with snowball type corners (scroll down) https://sewofcourse.blogspot.com/201...og-cabins.html |
Ohhh I love the 'stairs' pattern! I love anything with an optical illusion! Isn't it great when the blogger posts the pattern or at least explains the concept!

I sure hope you post if you figure it out. I don't see how a log cabin could be made to curve with the same width logs even starting with different centers. About a third of the way down this page https://slaneyhandcraft.wordpress.co...uilt-tutorial/ is basically a two color block starting with different centers, but the logs are not the same width.

Jenny Beyer has a very different log cabin block. Years old so may look new again to some.
https://external-content.duckduckgo....7b3&ipo=images I think the pattern is free. I have a print out from years ago but no website. The quilt is called Kinabalu. |
I, too, never had the urge---until now! Right after the new idea for a shadow box quilt...
