A different log cabin pattern?
 

Our LQS is hosting a Log Cabin Challenge. Of course there is a tremendous variety of patterns out there. But a while back, one caught my eye and for the life of me, I cannot remember where I saw it.

The layout is subtly curved, not by changing the widths of the logs, but by making some of them with a dark center (so that the block has more dark logs than light) and some with a light center (so that it has more light logs than dark). Does this sound at all familiar to any of you?

I have googled every description and variation I could think of. I'm hoping someone on the board has either seen it or is a better detective than I am. Help!

Jenny Beyer has a very different log cabin block. Years old so may look new again to some.

I think the pattern is free. I have a print out from years ago but no website. The quilt is called Kinabalu.

Years ago there was a popular one called Snake River Log Cabin in one of Judy Martin's books, Log Cabins

No. The only difference between this one and a REGULAR log cabin block, was that some blocks started with a dark center, making the darks predominant in that block, while others started with a light center making the lights predominant in that block. All the logs were the same width. It was the arrangement of the blocks that made the very unique and subtle curves. It is the layout that I am looking for.

Sigh. Thanks for you help. I think I'm going to have to drive myself crazy playing with a dozen or so blocks on my design wall.

You could draw multiple blocks on graph paper - or copy them multiple times - or use EQ - to make miniature blocks to arrange.

Another way ..... working in Word .... cut and paste a block. Shrink it to a fairly small size, so that you can get a lot of them on a page. Then repeat it. Rotate their directions.

Though that only works, if you know how to colour them in ......
