I made a OBW but it is unfinished need to put on borders and finish. UFO. I love it. Will do another one but I am moving soon and packing and my spouse is very ill. I have made a 3x5 card index of UFO and will pull from it when I have time and finish the item picked. What to do what to do. the OBW even thought it is a wack n' stack is very easy to put together.

countrymaid 01-26-2010 01:51 PM

I bought the book and ruler last fall. So I need to find a fabric next. I've done the stack and whack several times. So I'm ready for this one.

cutebuns 01-26-2010 01:59 PM

If you have done a stack and wack, you are ahead, the OBW is just one type of stack and wack.

For those that have always wanted to try and don't have the book, you may want to think about getting it now as there are a few of us that are planning on starting one.

Please tell me what the thread will be titled when you start your OBW discussion. I definitely do not want to miss out on it but I am going "cruising" for a week in February and won't be able to be online with the message board.

when you decide on the title please let me know.......either on this thread or PM me...so that I can check back if I miss it.....thanks, MaryJane (mjsylvstr)

mjsylvstr 01-26-2010 03:35 PM

oops.just noticed that you said it will begin on Monday........I will be checking for it.

I hope this is the right one...........is it?????

Woooooowww. looks tempting!

mjsylvstr 01-26-2010 03:56 PM

I'm really full of questions tonight...what is the repeat that is needed for theOBW?

Does it matter or would you just have a smaller block with a wmaller repeat. I do love this pattern but have never attempted it...so there will probably be more questions.

cutebuns 01-26-2010 04:19 PM

THat is the book, and ask away, the larger the repeat the better but you can use a smaller one, it will help decide what size to cut your pieces. that is for sure.

cutebuns 01-26-2010 04:20 PM

Here is the start of the conversation for those interested in watching and or participating.

I am so excited.I have your new thread on my toolbar so that I can check it out very easily.

thanks so much.

If we miss something or are away for awhile, we can always check back to your thread...right?

it will be a continuous thing right?

see, questions already.....thanks again, mj

cutebuns 01-26-2010 04:36 PM

It is going to be a continuous thing, until we are all done, but at any time feel free to ask me anything as well. I am hoping to keep it to mondays with the next step along the way. And if you miss a week or two it will be easy to catch up as well.

Hi,

I have found some fabric that I think will work (would post a picture but I am at work)- it is a 24" repeat. Will I have to cut larger triangles or will it work with 3&3/4" triangles.
Thank you - I am so looking forward to doing the OBW.

Bailey

cutebuns 01-27-2010 12:16 PM

I would have to see it to tell you what I think. Post a picture when ever you get a chance. It all depends on the size of the print. If it is big or small

obie2 01-27-2010 02:08 PM

I have scanned in images of the material I chose for my OBW. However, I do not know how to post a picture, so I went in search of the instructions, but my search turned up empty. Someone, please tell me where to find these instructions.

ctquilter 01-27-2010 02:15 PM

I've never done it, but if you go to the pictures section of the board the very first post is directions on how to post a picture.

obie2 01-27-2010 02:22 PM

Hi ctquilter; Thanks.

I ordered mine, but it's not here yet :( It's killing me, I feel so lost but I know once I get it I'll have a much better handle on what's going on! I sure like looking at everyone's fabrics though!!!

Experts, your opinions please?

I've done a OBW w/ a fabric that had 16 colors and it worked fine. I think the key is to have the right print. This was a print with macaws, parrots, toucans and other tropical birds sitting in multi-green foliage. The birds are 2 - 3" tall. I made this for my 25 yr. old son, he loves it.

If you have a smaller repeat and you want to have lots of triangles to make your hexagons with, you might need more than 6 repeats, like 12. You'd also need more if you want to make a larger quilt. All the OBW's I've made were meant to be hung on a wall, so the finished size didn't matter so much. Plus, if you want to include some of the original print in your border, you need to plan for that and buy more.

Obie, I love both of these fabrics. Would you mind telling the manufacturer and where you purchases them?

OK here is a picture (I hope) of the fabric I would like to use. It is a really large print and I think it will be nice for my son. I would like to add some color with the cubes. If you think this will work what size triangles do you recommend?

Thanks,
Bailey

cutebuns 01-27-2010 09:00 PM

The book helps. As a leader I have to recommend it.

cutebuns 01-27-2010 09:04 PM

I love that print. It is awesome. You can definitely cut that one bigger. I will take another look in the morning.

cutebuns 01-27-2010 09:07 PM

I have not totally decided as to if I am going to start a new thread. I will let it known here with a link if I do.

obie2 01-28-2010 04:16 AM

Barb The pink roses is Robert Kaufman Called "Inner Faith".
The burgundy is an Exclusively JoAnn fabric from R.E.C International Textiles. This one I have had in my stash for quite a while. The roses, I got from LQS a few months ago.

obie2 01-28-2010 04:17 AM

oooppps.. Barb that International Textiles should be R.E.D, not R.E.C

Okay, got my fabric! I think the colors are great, so I'm anxious to see how it turns out.

What do you think? Will it work?

cutebuns 01-28-2010 08:02 AM

I absolutely thnk that it will work. I can't wait to see everyones work!

Esqmommy 01-28-2010 08:11 AM

I just figured out, there are two threads with the same type of name!! Any way to have just one so it's less confusing?

cutebuns 01-28-2010 08:19 AM

One was a warning that I was starting this. I am ging to probaby start a new thread each week. Just to make it easy for someone that needs to start at the point they need rather go from the beginning. They will be labels according to what we are doing. I will supply a link on each of these to it when I do. And so it should get better

countrymaid 01-28-2010 10:02 AM

I find if I book mark the thread with the page number I was last on I can follow along better. That way I don't reread everything all the time, especially the really long threads.

cutebuns 01-28-2010 10:04 AM

This will be up for years to come i imagine and if someone is having issues with one particular step, then they will be able to skip along with out havin to go through all of it to get the answer to what they are looking for.

amma 01-28-2010 10:31 AM

Everyones fabrics are so beautiful!!! I can't wait to see the blocks that are created from them all :D:D:D
