How long do you estimate that this will take?

Truly. The hardest part is picking the fabric, and the final arrangement. The possibilities can drive you wild ;-)

cutebuns 01-28-2010 07:19 PM

it should only take about 3 weeks or so, there really isn't anything to it.

nursie76 01-28-2010 07:25 PM

I just got the Stack-n-whack Ipedia by Bethany Reynolds. Will that work?

cutebuns 01-28-2010 07:31 PM

yes it will work, it has the hexagon in it.

nursie76 01-28-2010 07:36 PM

Great! Thanks.

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 07:56 AM

I have a question, I do not want to have to deal with small pieces, so how would I pick my fabric (going shopping tomorrow) to be able to make a larger cut, nothing under 2 or 3 inches. thanks

cutebuns 02-01-2010 08:02 AM

You want a large print. Something that what ever it has on it will cover the span you would like to cut. The bigger the better.

oh here is something i have here now hope you can see it

cutebuns 02-01-2010 08:17 AM

That you could cut into three inches. Though depending on the repeat. You may want to cut a bit bigger or smaller so you don't hit the repeat staight on. You don't want the repeat to be divisible by the cut. So if the repeat is say 12 inches. You would want to stay away from 2,3,4,6 inch cuts. Add or take away a 1/4 or more

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 08:19 AM

ok there was something mentioned about the color code in the selvage, how far apart that code is is that the repeat. If so its 28 inches. I am so lost.

cutebuns 02-01-2010 08:27 AM

That is for sure a repeat. But a lot of times it has more than one repeat in there. If you show more of the length I will be able to help you find where you repeatis if you need help finding it

Id do the mirror thing but the only mirrors i have are on the wall and DH would stroke out on me. Now mind you this is just practice for me...........by no means would I use this fabric for a quilt.....long story I called daughter at store and asked her to pick my up some fabric that had pretty flowers and I said small print, I was making a baby quilt............well this is what she brought back all 10 yrds of it. I have given away most of it.

cutebuns 02-01-2010 10:17 AM

I seriously recommend trying it for this, it won't look anything like this when it is done, this particular block can transform some of the ugliest fabric to something different,

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 10:20 AM

Im going to try it, and If I like it with this fabric I can get more.

Not that is was ugly fabric, this started out as chilly peppers, if you look really close at the border you can see some of the original print, (I can't find th epicture that I had of it)

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 10:31 AM

Oh yea I love that fabric I think I have some around here.
I always have to practice 1st and then go for the big picture.

or how about this fabric, this is what it made (except the sky)

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 10:38 AM

Question, are we going to be able to follow along and do this without the book?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 10:39 AM

but what ever way that you need to approach it, look for the size of the print and the color, the pattern is sort of secondary.

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 11:25 AM

ok got ya...........I am a following along

Cute, I will be starting another OBW. I have a 24 inch repeat. I am thinking to do 3.5 inchs strips. I will post a picture once my batteries are charged.

cutebuns 01-12-2011 10:33 AM

pjaco 01-18-2011 04:33 AM

Esqmommy:

Your print can have many colors. My avatar has 16 colors in it and it works fine.

Cheryl, Cutie did a tutorial on this right here on the QB, go check out these links!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35100-1.htm this is on fabric choices
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35685-1.htm this one is on cutting your fabric
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-36316-1.htm this is on assembling the blocks
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-36954-1.htm this one is on layout

Cutie gives step by step instructions on how to do this process and several people have posted their own projects on these threads.

I was so afraid of messing it up until I saw these tutorials and how easy it was. These tutes make it easy and now I am doing one!
