Okay I admit, sometimes my husband is an obnoxious pain in the rear, but what man isn't? :) He has been so fabulous this past week though. Two days ago he sat with me for over an hour helping me get the mitered corners on my border right. I was following the directions in Eileen Wright's book and it just wasn't turning out correctly. He pointed out a couple things he thought I should change and voila, better corners! (He's really good at math and stuff)

Then yesterday I ran out of starch. We had to take a trailer back to a friend's anyways so went ahead and loaded up the kids and went in to town. I ran in to Hancocks and got a couple things then he said he had to go to Walmart. He came back out with 2 bottles of starch, (Hancocks only had Mary Ellen's and I like a heavy regular starch) a new full size ironing board, and a nice new iron. All I've had for the last couple of years is a table top ironing board and a cheapie piece of junk iron. It was sooooo nice ironing my backing fabric on that full sized board last night! (Hey, it's the simple things right?)

Then last night he helped me lay my backing, batting and top all out. He sat with me and kept me company for an hour and a half while I pinned, pinned and pinned some more. I'm sure he would of rather gone to bed but knew I could only do this when the kids were in bed.

I'm sure he'll go back to his typical buttheaded-man self soon but I'm enjoying this while it lasts. :P

He's a keeper:)
Could it be that he is hoping for a quilt of his own?

LoL, you're right on the money! He asked me a couple weeks ago if I could make him a specific quilt. He said, "No hurry, I know you have a few projects lined up, just whenever you get time." I told him I would do it right after I finished my current WIP. The other projects can wait. :)

Bailey's mom 02-21-2010 05:47 AM

He sounds wonderful! I would keep him!!!

Sharon M 02-21-2010 05:55 AM

Well he certainly is acting very nicely at the moment. Maybe you should make a note of it somewhere so you can re-live the moment later when he is back to acting up
Sometimes when they are acting "normal" it is hard to remember why we love them so much, then they surprise us in some nice way that brings it all back

patty48 02-21-2010 05:55 AM

Sometimes they surprise us don't they. I'd keep him for sure!!!!

aliaslaceygreen 02-21-2010 05:59 AM

yes indeed, you DO you have a great hubby!!
People had a hard time when I said one Feb 15 that my DH got me an extra wide ironing board for VDay.... but to ME?? the perfect gift (oh, there WAS chocolate, too....)

he he... mine is generally pretty supportive of my addictions but there are those days where I ask him " Ok who are you and where ever the old randy is I don't want him back" lol so glad you have a keeper.

Charlee 02-21-2010 07:16 AM

He's sounding like a pretty good butthead to me! ;)

Mine often comes home with a little surprise...and gets asked, "Ok..what did you do this time and how much is it going to cost to fix it?"

BellaBoo 02-21-2010 08:19 AM

He's a sweety and keeper for sure! Remember You are a keeper for him too! by making do all this time with the junky iron and board.

Esqmommy 02-21-2010 08:25 AM

Wow, a real sweetie, for sure!!! My DH is supportive but never just "does stuff" like that for me. I don't think it would ever cross his mind, frankly...glad to hear you two are having fun together.

Chele 02-21-2010 08:28 AM

Did you check the driveway for a new Corvette?! I'm teasing! He sounds like a great guy!

Joan 02-21-2010 08:29 AM

Talk about supportive......

Make that man his own special quilt....and
let him pick out his fabric

b.zang 02-21-2010 08:30 AM

Hmm, you've given me cause for pause.
My DH is also very supportive and understanding. He works with wood and we talk the same language about different mediums. I wonder what would happen if I were to put that kind of time into what he does? Hmm.

littlehud 02-21-2010 08:42 AM

That was so sweet of him. They can be great sometimes. I think he's a keeper.

For our 40th anniversay my hushband gave me a brand new RED T-bird convertible. Was I ever surprised, but most great husband do sweet things. Yes, I ride around town with the top down and have a ball. Our 4 teenage g-kids love to tell there friends their g-mother drivevs a red convertible. Once in blue moon I might let then drive it, only with me along.
You and your husband make a great couple, your children are blessed to have you two.

nursie76 02-21-2010 11:49 AM

Awwwhhh! So sweet...this was the same guy that came home with the new Bernina when you were just considering getting a new machine, right? I'd say he is definitely a keeper. My hubby is the same way, even offered to go out during a snow storm for starch for me!

Yep, give him a big hug...and make him a quilt quick! My hubby got his for Christmas (he talked me into a Bernina in July).

carrieg 02-21-2010 12:21 PM

Yes, he's a keeper! I have one too! Sounds like pinning is a good way to spend quality alone-time with each other. LOL

BKinCO 02-21-2010 12:32 PM

Nursie and I were thinking the same thing! THIS is the same hubby who came home with the swanky new machine for you! And now this?? He's definitely a keeper!!! Isn't it great when they show more than a passing interest in your projects? My hubby is a keeper too~~ in fact he just told me he intends to go to the big quilt show with me in Salt Lake City. I was shocked and his response was "well, I drag you along to all my crap, I figure it's the least I can do!" Wow.

zz-pd 02-21-2010 01:05 PM

That is wonderful, my husbands the same way, Im down from back surgery 2 wks ago, Im on the board last night looking at the recieps and see the one on two minute fudge anyway chatting with some wonderful people on the board and joking around about my husban has to make the fudge, I wright down the drictions, and he made it today.

nursie76 02-21-2010 01:17 PM

Wow Penny! Fudge! My hubby cooks, but so far candy has not be a part of his repertoire! Definitely a keeper.

Lostn51 02-21-2010 01:51 PM

Now me being the only guy here    I will say that I am very supportive of my wife's hobbies and her in general.

She has always told me that she has never seen such a devoted man in her life and is lucky to have me. I am always there to help her if needed and she will come out to the garage with me and sit and hang out while I work on a car or bike late at night after the kids are in bed.

My wife collects Barbies, Hallmark Christmas Ornaments and she is really into collecting Gemstones and Jewelry. Yes its a VERY expensive hobby but it makes her happy and she really enjoys it. She and I will hit the toy and jewelry shows, and flea markets together and she never hears me complain the first bit. And I bet I have been in every Gold Crown Hallmark store within a 300 mile radius of me!!

I think that you have a great hubby and if you would surprise him with something that he likes to do he might not go back to his "old ways".

But I think that for a marriage to work you have to take an active roll in each others lives including hobbies and interest.

Billy

I totally agree! I think you definitely have a keeper there! My hubby is wonderful too! He is always super supportive and never begrudges me my hobby. He "willingly" will go into a fabric store with me and quite often helps me pick out my colors. He never tells me that I am getting in over my head when I sign up for three different swaps, plus have all my own projects on top of taking care of a 10 month old! LOL! (He regularly takes the baby so I can quilt away!)
The part that makes it even more amazing of him is that right now he is unable to nuture his own hobby. We are living in a trailer while we wait to build on our land, so he has no space for his wood shop. Nary a complaint from him!
It's awesome your Hubby is so wonderful! Make sure to post a pic of the quilt you make for him for his wonderfulness!!

JanetM 02-21-2010 02:28 PM

I think he is a keeper too. Maybe he's been a diamond in the rough up until now. It sounds like he is very supportive of your hobby so make him a special quilt.

AMEN! Hubby and I will celebrate our 34th anniversary in April. Taking an active roll in each others lives and communication are definitely the keys!
My wife is going with me to Brookville Ohio tomorrow to pick up a pair of 1932 Ford Coupe bodies and the frames for a customer that I am building a pair of cars for. Its going to be a His and Hers build so it should be fun LOL. But while we are up there I am going to drop by Jegs to pick up a block and set of heads that I just bought for my bullet nosed Studebaker earlier today.

I spent almost 10K on that phone call and she never bat an eye. And I am going to Hancock of Paducah to see if I can find some fodder for a quilt or two an the way home!!

So we have a 20 or so hour round trip to look forward to and we start at 11pm tonight. But as always she will be by my side the whole way!!!!

Sounds like you have a full, fun day planned. Hubby and I have driven cross country 2 times, from PA to Maine and from PA to GA, MS, LA, and back to PA. We have such a good time, just moseying along and seeing so much. People he works with don't understand how we can stand to be cooped up together for so long without fighting....we really rarely do. It's just a matter of give and take. Enjoy your time and hope you find some awesome quilt "fodder".

Damkina 02-21-2010 02:44 PM

What a sweetheart! He definitely appreciates the love and work you put into your quilts.

cjomomma 02-21-2010 02:52 PM

My DH would never do that for me. If I ask him to go to the store for me I generally get a dirty look.

Hi Bill and good for you for the last 28yrs my husband has draged me into the gun and knife show as he collected them when I was working to, but he has never had a problem goning any where I would like to go either, I agree for a marrage to work flexability is a must.

I know all about the gun and knife shows for sure! I trail along behind him in one of those every other month or so. I actually find it amusing. There are some interesting folks at gun shows. :)

My husband and I actually do more together than the average couple. Both our families live out of state so we really just have each other to turn too. Tracy (my husband) is the most generous and unselfish person I have ever met. I am beyond blessed to have him in my life. I like to "complain" about his typical manish ways, but when it comes right down to it, I know he's a keeper. :)

JUNEC 02-21-2010 07:18 PM

You have a keeper - If he loves math he probably loves the math challenge that quilting sometimes gives you. If you can do things together keep it up - will make your marriage stronger.
