I agree with some others that the yellow isn't best with the others. I'd replace it with a fabric that is much lighter or much darker, but in the same color family with one of the others, perhaps another green. I like the print with the rest because it "happys" it up.
I am thinking about doing this one myself. I don't like the scrappy look, so I am going to find one focus fabric and pull 5 or 6 colors from that and call it good.
Your colors all look like they are in medium value range. I would think we would need everything from darks to lights for that project. It doesn't look like you have enough contrast between the colors. I like them, but some need to be darker and some need to be lighter, does that make since? |
Nix the bottom 2 and pull colors from the pink with the blue dot and the one next to it.
I think it is your block and you should use what you want to. These are all lovely and I would put them together. You will get many opinions on this so just use the ones you want and do not worry about the rest.
the real questio is...Do you like them together........
On my monitor the colors look fine together, however they are all pretty much the same value, so if you need contrast might want to rethink it.
They all look good, especially if there is some pink in that brown. Hard to tell from the picture on my screen. They will all look nice when done.
I would go with the colors you have chosen, and add some pizazz also with contrasting sashing, borders, etc.
...not sure what you're going for - but agree that the brown is a bit out of place - any chance you have something that will pick up the turquoise in the swirly pattern upper right hand side? Love to see what you come up with!
I like the colors together..if I removed any it would be the last one (bottom right) and I would use white for sashings. You have to understand I love 30's quilts and those colors would work great for me but it really would depend on what you are making...just my opinion. Mother's neighbor's husband used to say all fabric goes together when you put it in a quilt and I must say her quilts were heavenly!
the purple in the flowers and a white print would work, also a polkadot. Love to see what you end up with.

I would change that bottom left fabric (tan/yellow/not sure what color it is) to a tone on tone cream/off white to give more light/dark contrast. Is the bottom right plum or brown? I think it needs to be a darker color. I really like all the colors, but like some said, it needs more contrast from light to dark.
Not crazy about the yellow or brown.
Yes I would say so. I wonder if they would make a pretty Dresden Plate. I usually like bold colors but pastels work out too. Maybe a Wedding Ring. I do agree adding a blue would help.
I think you need some kind of dark for contrast.
I really like the top 3 fabrics..but not the bottom 2 on my screen the floral print looks like their is a lavender hue to it so maybe add something of a light purple ?..that is what I would do..Happy quilting and blessings to you!
I like the top three fabrics, but would try to add a color to make it pop. Maybe a piece of the blue in the floral would add to it?
I like the colors except for the brown, not sure why. Please post pic's of finished project.
I'd toss the brown and put in one that is striped with light purple in it, for extra interest.....
Not sure about the brown either but love the others.
they sure do... good job..
Yes, very nicely. J J
A little bland. Definitely don't like the brown.
I think I would rather see the blue instead of the purple or brown. It would seem to go with the circle fabric better and tie all of them together.

I think they go together, if I was to add, I would add a blue like the blue in flowered print.

janie ... it is YOUR quilt. If you like these quarters together, trust your self. That is really all that matters! That said ... if you make up the quilt with these and you give it to me, I will love it!
THey sure do not go together on my monitor.I would pick one that has the most colors in it and use it as your focus fabric and check the edge of that fabric for the color dots and see if the fabrics you displayed match those dots .If they do you are good to go if not add to them.
I would use these together. I like them. Someone told me once I have a knack for putting toether colors that you wouldn't think to use together and making them work, so maybe it's me? I just know I would use them!
I am also doing the craftsy BOM....Here is my input. While all the fabrics you have are very pretty they all basically read as medium value. You need to add some darks and lights. The two bottom fabrics do look to be a medium light and a medium dark but the rest all read as medium value. I like the chocolate and green, maybe if you added a dark chocolate and a cream to the mix you would have better options for contrast. The pink is a nice addition but you have two medium pinks....the one on the right is more interesting to me but I would pick one and put the other back. Grab a bunch of fabrics and lay them out over lapping, step back and squint at them, or if you have a camera with a view finder look at them through that. Sometimes I take a picture with my digital camera and in photo editing make it black and white....you can see value so much better in grey scale. Remember you are going to see this fabric mostly a few inches from your nose as you sew it, but mostly, when finished, it will be seen from many feet away. Value, more even than color, can make or break a quilt.
Is that brown or purple in the bottom right? Anyway, I think it looks good with the pinks but not the greens. I think I would use a lighter purple to match the flowers in the green print.
I like all the colors, I think the yellow and brown adds pop to the mixture.
I would leave the bottom right one out in large amounts...a small amount ...It would work as the binding though.

Ok...didn't see where you are using for the Craftsy lesson...I'd put the bottom right as the strips in the wonky pound sign. ...maybe the yellow/green that is to the left of it as the solid....or the floral.
I would get rid of the two in the left and get two that are greater value difference. They are pretty fabrics, but from the photo, it looks like these two fabrics will just visually blend in with the similar colors you already have.
I'm not crazy about the brown.
Like the fabrics you chose.
I thin the yellow or gold doesn't work.

I won't comment on colors because I think they are such a personal choice. In my opinion I think more contrast is needed.

I personally wouldn't do the brown, but would add a blue that matches the blue in the print. I invested in a color wheel, it has saved me having to make the tough decisions about what goes with what. First, I use the colors within the main fabric, and build around that. If I need to, I go to the color wheel. Works every time. Love your color theme though. The limes and peaches go together very well.
