Do these fabrics go together?

1 Attachment(s)
I am doing the block of the month on Craftsy. Do these fabrics look good together? Please be honest, they weren't expensive and I can put them in my stash if they don't. Also do you have other suggestions of what other fabrics and prints would look good

I think so. I have the green floral and the orangish dots in a quilt together right now.

Scissor Queen 01-27-2012 01:56 PM

I'm not real crazy about the yellow, which is odd because I normally love yellow. But in limited amounts it will add sparkle. I love the other four together though.

AnnieH 01-27-2012 01:57 PM

Lovely fabrics. Not sure about the brown.

The fabrics go together, but both me and my Mom think they may be too bland. But, it may be due to the camera - the colors don't always come out the same when you post them.

Greenheron 01-27-2012 02:08 PM

A bit hard to tell on my monitor. I think you might preview the grouping with a bit of purple thrown in? Your prints are lovely.

cheaha39 01-27-2012 02:25 PM

I think they go together, if I was to add, I would add a blue like the blue in flowered print.

Christine George 01-27-2012 02:33 PM

I like the peaches and the brown but not the yellow or the light green. Plus, to me, the light green is a different "genre"? How do I explain it. It looks like a different mood. That make sense?

NannaL 01-27-2012 02:38 PM

Not knowing the BOM you are doing I feel it makes it a little difficult. They do appear to be bland if it was me I would introduce the colour of the aqua/green of the dot (3rd top row) or maybe a brighter mauve. I am not expert its just what I would do.

Crqltr 01-27-2012 02:40 PM

I like the colors together!

sahm4605 01-27-2012 02:46 PM

if it was me i would get rid of the brown and go with a purple and find a green/yellow in the same tone as the green. it sorta makes the others a little sickly looking. to me.

Sunnye 01-27-2012 02:49 PM

I don't like the one on the bottom right with the others, but maybe that's just me.

patski 01-27-2012 02:50 PM

I've made the craftsy blocks and these will be wonderful together

aronel 01-27-2012 02:52 PM

I think you did a good job matching, they will look good together, in a quilt. Please post pictures when you are done!

irishrose 01-27-2012 03:20 PM

I'd prefer a more clear lavender or lt purple instead of the grayish mauve one on the bottom right. The rest look good to me. The gray tone doesn't fit, IMO.

luce321 01-27-2012 03:29 PM

I think the first three go well together. You might add a blue to these. Just my opinion. Please post a pic when you are done.

Candace 01-27-2012 03:33 PM

You asked for honest opinions and I guess I would say that I wouldn't make a quilt with the fabrics. They just don't seem to mesh well with each other.

appliquequiltdesigns 01-27-2012 03:51 PM

I want to say thank you for all your great replies. Looking at the craftsy site again I found that the teacher is planning on using over 30 fabrics. What other fabric color & prints should I be looking for.

susie-susie-susie 01-27-2012 03:51 PM

I agree, I think they are too bland. They need something to make them pop. There aren't any lights or darks, they are all mediums IMHO. I would look for something that would really pop. Maybe a bright lime green or a bright clear blue.
Sue

I forgot to add--I really like the colors you picked--just not together. I love every one of the fabrics that you picked.

I don't see a thing wrong with them!

I think you're correct. Not enough contrast. A little muddy.

Cybrarian 01-27-2012 04:15 PM

I won't comment on colors because I think they are such a personal choice. In my opinion I think more contrast is needed. Whatever color or maybe 2 colors you want to have the loudest voice(s) need need at least a dark shade to strengthen it (them). For example the brown or green or peach/orange (hard to be sure on a computer)- picking one or 2 and finding a dark fabric to give more contrast. I would also pick at least one and add a very light shade of that color. That's my 2 cents.

karenpatrick 01-27-2012 04:42 PM

I don't see a whole lot of contrast.

Ruby the Quilter 01-27-2012 04:49 PM

Think the top 3 are really nice. Not sure about the last 2 but from my experience I find that when it's finished things I wasn't sure about look fine. What will be your background fabric? I have done the first 2 blocks.

BellaBoo 01-27-2012 05:00 PM

The colors are great. It's the contrast that is missing. I would add a couple of very dark to the mix.

QuiltnNan 01-27-2012 05:01 PM

i'm not keen on the yellow-green in the bottom left. maybe bring in a blue/purple - whichever is the color in the flowers

sewjoyce 01-27-2012 05:08 PM

I think the fabrics go together just fine...maybe use a bright royal blue to get some ummppphh? (is that a word? lol)

Rosewood9 01-27-2012 06:37 PM

I like your choice of colors

earthwalker 01-27-2012 06:49 PM

It's a good start, but they seem all pretty much the same tone, so zing it up a bit with a couple of darks and a bright or two (maybe pick out the brightest blue from the floral print).

nyelphaba 01-27-2012 07:03 PM

I like your fabrics. I am doing the same BOM. What background fabric are you using?

I am using an off white - sort of cream color. I agree with all of you about the lack of contrast. These are just the first few fabrics I picked. I also want to find fabric with different patterns, but when I was at Joann's they didn't have any.

pasolovers 01-28-2012 03:56 AM

I like the colors and think they'll go well together.

Edie 01-28-2012 04:13 AM

I love the combination!!!!! Always remember - "My quilt - My rules."

Make it a good day! Edie

lfletcher 01-28-2012 04:34 AM

They work well in my opinion except for the bottom right color. It seems dull compared to the others.

gollytwo 01-28-2012 04:39 AM

They all go together but need some pop - add a fabric that isn't so grayed.

ellenmg 01-28-2012 04:42 AM

I like the colors, but I think the two pinks (?) (top left and top right are too similar, they would blend into each other. Others said it, perhaps more contrast between colors. I am guilty of choosing too-similar colors and while I like it pre-quilt, I have been very unhappy with the result... Good luck on this, we want pics!

huntannette 01-28-2012 04:45 AM

that looks pretty close to the colors i used in my peach cobbler quilt....

Daisydoodle 01-28-2012 04:52 AM

Not wild about the yellow or brown with the other 3, I do agree it is often hard to tell on the computer. Maybe a purple/blue and a cream on cream. It also depends on the block. I like all of them individually!! Alas I am a fabriholic and have not done the 12 step program....

Pieces2 01-28-2012 05:04 AM

I quess it may depend on the block your doing. (?) You have 2 peachy colors that appear the same, the green and yellow are similar, and the brown just doesn't fit.
