Yep, bought two yards of the non sparkly couple weeks ago for baby quilts here at Jo Anns also. I do like the sparkly stuff though but interesting about what Grannie brought up about them getting into children's eyes. Never thought of that.

I love it. I hope you use it.

The fabric is perfect for your Dresden. How big is the quilt and is it to be a gift? Might the recipient like the sparkles more than you do? Keep the receiver in mind not just your preferences. |
The quilt will be beautiful, I love the material.-Barb

I think it is a perfect match. I would use if it were me.
|
I would use it. The sparkle will most likely wash out any ways after several washes.

Did you use a special template for that butterfly? It looks like it was made for just that one butterfly. I myself save plastic lids and cut them into whatever shape I want. Since they have no markings on them they work nicely. I would like to find sets of different sizes, it would make it easier when I'm frustrated and ruin every lid I cut!! I have a GO cutter so thats what I thought I might try if the die is the right size. I have some creative memories cutting templates I have thought about trying - I havent tried it yet though - I think I also have a curcular cutter for scrapbooking made by fiskars - will have to play around with it though. I am just not real fond of the texture of fabric with the sparkles - has anyone sewed with it before? The greens dont match but its the closest thing I have found so far!!! Would rather have a smaller floral print but I havent found any that has all the colors!!! Thanks for input thus far - I appreciate it. |
the stiffness and some of the sparkle will wash out of the fabric - i have used it in 2 quilts, and got if from walmart - it washes beautifully!
|
Mine hasn't washed out yet
|
would love to see your quilt fininshed or what you did to
around the points of the quilt please send to me [email protected] Ido not always go on here |
Usually the sparkles wear/wash off/out anyway! I would use it!
|
Love your dresden. It is beautiful.
|
I like your quilt with the butterflies, and the sparkles.
|
after it is washed the fabric will become softer and less sparkley. it is very nice with the colors in the dresdan plate, and the fussy cut center is really great.
you might try walmart.com or try to get to the fabric company website if there is a name in the salvage. i know the walmart BOM fabric has a site and another fabric they carry from 'David' something has a site. |
I may be learning something today! I've always avoided "sparkly" and "painting" on fabric because I thought it would easily wash away in the laundry - Am I wrong??
I may have to rethink using these fabrics, I like some of them but was afraid they'd wash away and change the look of the quilt. Feed back, please. What's your experience with this fabric? Thanks |
Those colors are so perfect and I think the sparkle gives it the real umpf that it needs!
|
Your colors are gorgeous. Does some of that sparkle come out if you wash the fabric? Maybe someone else knows that.

I agree. I think it (the sparkly butterfly) takes your eye to the center of the quilt. If you quilt with sparkly thread that will bring your eye back out!

What beautiful colors for a Dresden Plate quilt. I thinik the butterflies are perfect. I have this fabric and I know it feels somewhat stiff, but fussy cut it seems perfect for the center of the Dresden Plate.
|
I think Joanns has that print without sparkles.I really love your dresdans. They are just beautiful.
|
Try Wal-Mart. That's where I got mine.

I'm sure the LQS could help you find something just as pretty.
I agree with you on that fabric. I bought some to make a little girl's bag and it's stiff and hard to iron. I ironed from the back side. It must be whatever they used to apply the sparkles that stiffens the fabric. I don't think I would want to work with that fabric to applique. Just too hard to shape. Good Luck ! |
the sparkly will never totally wash away - it just mellows out - as for painted on fabric, from what I have used it stays pretty well through 10 years of washing so far - good luck
|
I personally Love this fabric but why not contact the manufacturer and ask them if they make it without the sparkles.
A great match. |
I don't think you'll find a more perfect fabric for this project! I saw this fabric or one skimiliar on eBay for a good price. The sparkles will wash away over time. Can't wait to see what you decide!
|
Yeah, it looks perfect to me...
|
I like it, too!
|
I used that fabric with the pink background for DGDs attic windows quilt. There is also a coordinating stripe that I used for the border. It was not at all difficult to work with and is holding up nicely to regular washing. You will have sparkly hands, face, and everything else while working with it, and more of the sparkles will come off as it ages, but it holds its shape well and will look just as nice after many washings.
It is beautiful with your dresdens. Go for it. |

Do they make this fabric without the sparkles - I really dont like the texture of this fabric. If not I am open to suggestions for this dresdan. Thanks cheryl  |
Cheryl, have you tried washing the fabric and see if the stiffening lessens after the wash? I have purchased all of these fabrics at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago, the ones in the Dresden plate and the butterfly material. When I washed the material, it softened up a little. I love the match you have made. Good luck and post it after you finish. Looking forward to seeing it.

I think the sparkly butterfly in the center is perfect!

I think it looks great but whatever you like will be the best......

I have used the butterfly material, and did not have any problems with it. I think that would go very nicely together.
|
I am not much for the sparkles normally, but that looks great together!!
|
Have you tried washing the sparkly fabric?
