Doesn't everyone? lol
I buy fabric because I like the colors, when I go to use them, it's back to shopping for other fabric to match it
Absolutely, I buy fabric with no specific project in mind. Usually one yard cuts or 3 yard cuts if I think I would use fabric as borders. 6 yards for backing.
GrannieAnnie, I thought I was the only one who has fabric pets! I love rearranging, petting and looking at my stash...My family has started to give me weird looks when I am in my sewing room looking lovingly at my fabric :D |
If I do not buy it when I see it; it won't be there when I know I want it. I love dreaming of what I can do with it when I get a chance to work on something for me. (I buy fabric when I am on Vacation and then that project becomes my keepsake for that trip.)
almost every purchase is just because I like the fabric I like it I buy it almost never use it
I have a very small fabric stash because I was only buying fabrics for special projects. Right now my stash only fits on 1 book case shelf. I have now decided to buy fabric-"just because". I want to be able to "Shop" in my stash when I am broke. lolololo....
Have a blessed day. debra |
ALL The time...LOL
But of course!
I do. That's why I only go to Jo Ann's if I need something specific while I'm in my fabric moratorium! I don't have room for more fabric, and I'm forcing myself to make quilts from my stash.
Oh my how pretty some of that is, will have to show us the finished quilt for your daughter.
You better believe it, I have several fat quarter packs just waiting for a project....
Of course, because my hoard consists of "finds" from many different sources--up cycling, dirt malls, garage sales, etc. Get 'em while you can.
(Fabrics don't "whisper" to me but sometimes they rub against me and purr." |
yes, I do. All the time. If it's there and I like it, it's mine !
Yes :) Although my deals today were for a project, I got extra I hadn't planned on because of a major price break :) :) I was picking up a few batiks to finish out a swap I'm doing, and Hancock's had forgotten to take down their 50% off signs from the sale last week (when I had no money) so they had to give it to me at the 'posted price' :D And some of it was on clearance on top of that! I got a BEAUTIFUL pink batik for $1.70 a yard so I took the rest of the bolt lol don't have a plan for it but at that price you can't pass it up!
I do all the time. I have coupons at Joann's but it is for a regular priced item....50% off. So I always look at what I want and if that is on sale... I'll get it but then look for other fabric I can use and get it for 50% off. I also buy tools etc with these coupons,..like that spray adhesive and templates
But last week and this past week..they had a 20% off TOTAL purchase which included all sale items too so I got the Keepsake Calico that was already 30% off and then with my coupon.. it was actually 50% off! I'll also use the coupon for batting and stock up on that when it is not on sale and I have a 50% off coupon. Threads too. I just yesterday bought a yard of Duck Canvas/cloth to change the cover on my board pressing board (not ironing board) and it was $10.99 a yard. With my 50% off it was $5.50 and then 20% off made it around $4.50 a yard. I was only going to get 1/2 yard, but forgot that when I had it cut and got a full yard! But I am sure I'll find a use for it..if not just save it until I want to replace the cloth again on the board! I also buy 1 yd with the 50% off...just cause I like it. Nice to have on hand and they sell a bundle of 5 Fat Quarters...all coordinating colors and they are $10 so with my 50% off they are $5 and then yesteday another 20% off that! I buy on sale so I have it when I need it and can't afford it! |
I have started a mystery block at our lqs where we do a block a month and now I can use all that fabric I bought just because I liked it! I have charm packs and fat quarters everywhere in my sewing room.
Oh, I buy fabric all the time just because I like it. I will have to add that my stash is over the top. I could start my own quilt shop. I used to work in a quilt shop and would often buy the last 1 or 2 yards left on a bolt because I couldn't stand to not see it any more.
I buy fabric when it on sale even thought i will never use it
We all(well most of us) have done this. I see nothing wrong with this. My kids do, but I don't. Sometimes the fabric just speaks to me. Buy me, Buy me.
ummm yes entirely too much if you look at my stash lol or listen to my hubby. although im having to scale back these days due to the economy. im sooo happy i have a stash to go to and am looking forward to doing some scrappy quilts too although i have lots of things on my to do list that i have fabric for i need to use more of what i have rather than buy fresh each time. although i do see some thread purchases in my future to keep up with all that fabric.

Yes, Of course. Hardly ever is there a "plan"
Absolutely positively........
A woman mentioned that she only buys what she needs at our quilt show our guild put on. I wish I had her self control. I spent over $200.00 dollars on fat quarters, and $3.00 a yard cuts. I am a hoarder of fabrics, not a fabricholic.
Definitely. I just bought several sale end of bolts ($3/yd) at a quilt shop in Reno, because I liked them.
Definitely, because at least half of the "fun" of quilting is touching and enjoying the fabric itself. Why not?
I can't think of a less harmful thing to do. It gives you something to work with on a rainy day and inspiration for future projects. I do the same with food. If something is on sale that I didn't realize ahead of time, I buy it and use my freezer (for meat) and cabinets (for canned goods) and refrigerator (for things like yogurt, fruits/veggies) and then use up what I found at a great price. For me, it is a very, very logical way to function! |
I'd always bought what I'd rather call 'what I like' than 'just because'...that was bad enough!!
Then I got a job managing the quilt fabric dept of a large craft store. The notifications would come thru weekly on what fabrics were discontinued/written off and I was to dramatically discount and move them. So I'd buy minimum 2 metres of each, some the whole card. The trunk of my car would be dragging on the road home. Surfice to say, I was a favourite with my customers because I discounted 90%. And I have a ridiculously HUGE stash!!! |
Absolutely, you will find something to use it for. Or build a project off the piece you bought!
I'm a little behind in reading some of these posts, but heck yes, I buy fabric 'just because'! Then I wrack my brain wondering what I'm going to create from it! :)
Yes, I do, when I'm in the states. But, it's bad when I find that I've bought that fabric before--well, sometimes that is. Sometimes I want lots of a certain fabric!

No. Why would I do such a thing?! All my fabric is for a specific purpose. Each quilt is planned out to the last stitch.
If you believe that, I've got some waterfront property for you in Arizona!! :D |
Of course. It would probably be gone when you figured out what you wanted to do with it. Also, that was the time of a good price and as you say "it spoke to you" There is also something to be said for that "feel good feeling". Some people like clothes or shoes. We love fabric !
My stash grows like my weight grows, a bit at a time. I have fabric that has been lurking in my stash for decades. I am a fabricaholic - as I grow older I am heading to become a horder. Some day you may see me on "the Horders"!!!
Do we really need excuses??? When my hubby complained, I refused to stop buying fabric I liked and with my own money....then I divorced him!!
oh lord just ask my husband that question. i bet i order at least 50 yards a week online. i get myself into so much trouble with the emails i receive from quilting companies. i tried once to put myself on a no shopping moritorium but it lasted for about 10 days lol. i am hopeless. i just ordered 55 1/2 yard pieces and 24 spools of thread 2 days ago and then another order last night from the same place that is having a wonderful sale. i went back to check my first order and realized there were things i didn't place with the first order and got myself into trouble. oh well what can i say. can't pass up a good deal. p.s. last month found an email store going out of cotton sale and bought 65 yards of beautiful cotton for $90 so how can you not buy that.
When it is 40% + sale I do buy "just because" . There was a time when I had a small stash and bought when they were at $1 - $3 a yard. Those day are long gone and very rare can you find them. Glad I have a stash I can go without buying. (or at least I make something I have work)
0h, my YES! I buy fabric that I like all the time, which is why I have huge stash. You are in great company. Enjoy!
wow cindy you sound like me. i am a new quilter about a year into this. and i have some of the most beautiful fabric and am terrified to cut it as i may ruin it. lol i am getting better though i have put patterns with fabric with the hopes one day i will use it.
