Oh yes, and sometimes once they are quilted and washed I like them better. I usually make "test blocks" before I invest too much time and fabric. If I don't like the combination at that point I stop and have an orphan block. If I like the block and continue but then don't like the finished top it goes to charity unless someone expresses a interest in it. Then it becomes a lovely hand made gift.

You bet!! My very first quilt.. there was Nothing wrong with it, it was a soft muted shades of turquoise.. we used to call them 'dusty' colors. and it was a grandmother's fan.. done on muslin. and it was a HUGE top queen sized spread. I finished the whole thing and couldn't STAND it. So ..... I sold it.. that was my first hand pieced top. I found out I really don't care for pastels or muted colors much. But I got my money back out of it and it was a great learning tool.

not really..it may of not turned out a great as i would of liked it to..but i love it anyways!

My dogs are allowed on all my quilts, on the couches and the bed..I make them to use,not for looking at.And i don't mind washing them once a week! (nothing bigger than a twin size)

I NEVER like any of the quilts I make ... I like looking at the pictures, and I really like the process and the techniques, but I am never really attached to any of my quilts.
It is one of the reasons I give so many away ... ALL of them away .. out of my house, away from my sight!
I don't like them because I know what is weak about them. I know where I made mistakes. I am constantly finding places that could have had a better color combination. I don't ever want to see any of the quilts I make EVER AGAIN!
However .... sometimes, I am forced to - - and, when I see one that I made years ago, or months ago (since I usually just do the quilt top and wait to quilt it) ... I am sooooo impressed!
They always look better than I remember them!
For example. I made a HUGE pineapple quilt for my son and DIL for their wedding. It was my typical, everything but the kitchen sink colors, thrown together. When I quilted it, I put waay too much stippling in it, and it is stiff .... I shipped it off to the kids, knowing they didn't know good from not so fine and breathed a sigh of relief, since I would never visit them, anyway. I would NEVER have to see it.
Four years passed and I happened to go visit while they were waiting for their second child to be born. When I walked into their house, there was this really impressive quilt on the wall, and so bright, so cheery ... I walked over to look at it and was checking out the quilting (I am SERIOUS! I didn't even recognize it!) .... I was just about ready to ask: Where did you get this quilt???? When, something about it caught my attention ... a strip of fabric that apparently I REALLY liked!
I stepped back, and looked at the WHOLE quilt, and by golly! I knew where they had got that great quilt! LOL and, it really looked great.
The other day ... DD and I were going through some quilt tops and she pulled out one and I asked: Where did that come from? (well, of course, from me - - silly old woman!) but, when did I do it? What had made me do it, and by golly! It actually looked like I knew what I was doing! even though I recognized blocks I had created some nine years ago, and whatever made me think to put four patches, nine patches, solid blocks, and big HST all together uniformly in a quilt? I knew when I folded it away, I hadn't like it, but here I was, seeing it years later, and being impressed ... senility? LOL Maybe ... but, I know what I think when I am done with one ... I DO NOT LIKE the quilts I make ... LOL <wave>

Well I haven't made that many but I've loved them all because they have been made for loved ones and I've sewn love into every stitch. I just wish I had kept pictures.

But I have done other projects where the finished project has irritated me so much I've never wanted to see it again. Usually because I can't get it to come out like I've visualized it.

I have made two that were "seemed like a good idea at the time," One was a mystery quilt I did in a class. Hate it but had a great time with my friends. second was to be a baby quilt for friend. The fabric was so cute but when I pieced it, it was horrible. Also, we see our quilts up close, all the details, and know where we messed up. Back up and look at it from across the room, then it usually looks great. Third, if you hate a project, why do you want to spend any more time on it. Life is too short. Either think of it as a lesson on technique or color. Then take it to your guild meeting and offer it up for free to someone else. Or our guild has a trash for treasure sale, sell it there.

Oh yeah,
I had a flannel quilt that I disliked so much, it was a huge chore to finish it! I couldn't give it away fast enough! Now I know that I don't have to finish it if I can't stand it any longer;I'll just give it away, good will, whatever... someone else will love it.
If I find that I don't love it so much when it's completely finished... I use it in a duvet cover. win win.
