After reading one of the posts today, it got me thinking about the Facebook site. Most of my family are on this and laugh at me because i chose not to enroll. It's only because i would never have the time to keep up with it. I have all i can do keeping tract of messages here and viewing all the pics. What little time i have other than that i would rather be quilting! Am i missing something?

CarrieAnne 03-12-2011 03:18 PM

I dont have it, because I am on dial up and cant post pictures. I check BFs though, because our kids are all on there, so easy to keep up with them.

davidwent 03-12-2011 03:18 PM

it's WAY to easy to get yourself in trouble on there. I mean with all the creaps, thieves, predators on there IMO

If you're missing something so am I. I have email for people I want to keep in touch with. I know I'm a dinosaur but really don't feel the need to know everything about everyone all the time.

ptquilts 03-12-2011 03:19 PM

I lurk, have an account but rarely post. The people I want to hear from rarely post, the people I don't care so much about are on all the time.

Sewing Joe 03-12-2011 03:20 PM

I do have a FB account, but check it so infrequently that I might as well not. I honestly do not get how some people can spend hours there. I barely care what I'm up to every minute of the day. I really can't get that interested in other folks.

Treasureit 03-12-2011 03:22 PM

I am on it and that is how I read up on a lot of my family's events and see pictures of g.kids etc. I don't post much - occasionally comment on others posts. I like it and it seems safe to me because only the people you make your "friends" are seeing my stuff.

kim_s 03-12-2011 03:25 PM

Well, whatever you're missing I am too. Like you, I barely have time to get the things done I need to get done. My extra time will be cruising this board, sewing or reading. And, personally, I don't think I am so interesting that everyone has to know everything I do. But that's just me. My daughter is a facebooker and I know she'll get updates with high school activities, pics from her friends, what's going on with her cousins, etc. So it's a way for her to keep in touch with what's going on. I get it, it's just not for me.

debp33 03-12-2011 03:28 PM

I don't do Facebook because I don't trust anyone possibly getting my information. Don't you have to put in your first and last name?

Although I just started a blog. I don't know if that's safer or not??

Mary M 03-12-2011 03:29 PM

No FB for me. I spend enough time on the computer with just this group and then don't get my quilting finished. Don't have family on there and it is just as easy if not easier to keep up with friends through emails.

jacee kay 03-12-2011 03:35 PM

I don't have it. I don't want to take the chance of someone getting my info. Also don' want to get a viris from it.

bj 03-12-2011 03:36 PM

I opened an account and then closed it about 2 weeks later. I thought it was a pain and I'd rather talk to folks anyway.

SaraSewing 03-12-2011 03:36 PM

No way. Being on this board is enough broadcast for me. I don't feel the need to broadcase my info all over internet land. I have my daughter's acct and password (with her permission) for when I want to see photos of people I know. If they want to see me, let 'em knock on my door! Guess I'm too old.

That's me. I have an account, only check it occasionally for a few minutes. My daughter set me up when she was still in college in San Deigo. It was how she shared her pictures and stuff with us. She loves to take pictures and is constantly posting them.

Oh, well said! Totally agree with you.

Kim Bohannon 03-12-2011 03:40 PM

i do have facebook, but only check in 2 times a week if that, mostly to keep in touch with everyone at church since they all use it and don't believe in the old fashioned telephone! :) I would much rather talk on the phone or have people come see me. But, FB isn't all that bad.

Melody 03-12-2011 03:42 PM

And I thought I was the only one who does not want to FB!! Apparently I am not alone after all... thank you QB friends. My family tries to put the guilt trip on me for refusing to sign up. I keep telling them it is the modern day version of hanging clothes on the clothes and then gossiping over the backyard fence. I think it's a waste of my time and non productive. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

hobo2000 03-12-2011 03:43 PM

I have a page and it is nonsense. My DH's relatives in Utah are into it big time virtual farms, charities, etc. I finally, after receiving umpteen chickens for the virtual farm I don't have, I sent them a message on my wall that I am much too busy for this kind of stuff. No more chickens, now its hugs, kisses, etc. Oh well!

Up North 03-12-2011 03:48 PM

I do have a face book page but just to keep in contact with grandkids and close friends I do not post personal info on it!

darlin121 03-12-2011 03:48 PM

I have an account that I wish I had never opened. In one way I have linked up with people I have lost track of and thats the one good thing. I don't farm, post, play war or even rarely do I comment. Just one more thing I got pressured into.

sewTinker 03-12-2011 03:50 PM

I Love facebook!!! I live far away from my family (daughter in North Carolina, family in San Francisco & Reno; friends Everywhere), and I miss them terribly. Facebook lets me see the latest photos of my favorite nephew's children. Let's me be silly with my sister. Let's me leave beautiful music to my mom (yes, she's 80 and does facebook!). It lets me make plans to meet up with friends I haven't seen since highschool. Facebook enriches my life. It has wonderful privacy settings so that you can block yourself from even showing up in a search if you so wish. I would be Sad if facebook went away. Depressed, even! :-)

sandyo 03-12-2011 03:52 PM

I love FB, started to keep up with friends and family in a few minutes a day. So many are far apart and you just have to send one message and everybody gets it. Don't post very often but do check it everyday. Feel more connected to people you do not see very often. Just have to talk to Caro about posting in German.

cheryl rearick 03-12-2011 03:52 PM

I do like facebook. My family had a falling out in 2005 because mom gave house to one brother... I love all my family and now most will not talk to me because I am friends with the one who got the house :( Long story short. I love my nephews and nieces and facebook allows me to maintain contact with the young. :) I also get to see pictures of their children so it keeps me in contact with my family. :)

fabric whisperer 03-12-2011 03:56 PM

I am quite computer literate, and do have a FB page, mostly to keep in contact with two oldest kids & the grandkids. We don't farm, don't play all the games or all the quizzes... took my DIL forever to figure out I don't do that junk. But if I'm out camping with grandbabies, I can post pics from my phone to my FB page, and yes, we use the privacy so only accepted friends can see or access us.

lynnsim 03-12-2011 03:56 PM

sewTinker, looks like we're in the minority here. I'm on Facebook; not every day and don't do the Farms, etc. But I do enjoy "meeting" up with family and friends. I do sell a little bit, so it's also a way to advertise my wares for free. I think I've blocked all the bad things, too.

clair 03-12-2011 03:59 PM

No i'am not, this is why. My son and dau-in-law are both in computer research and they say not to because it's to easy to do bad, bad things to people who are on sites like that . So I stay away, in fact I even limit the number of people who have my cell No. to family. I never ever give someone elses phone no. to anyone else. To much info. is not good. I even lurked here for months before I joined. Sorry but I'am to private I guess.

sueisallaboutquilts 03-12-2011 04:01 PM

I am on FB and while I don't go a lot I like keeping in touch with friends and family I normally wouldn't.
At first I loved it but then I found the Quilt Board- now everyone on FB thinks I fell off the face of the earth! lol
:D:D
As far as the safety issue- I just try not to worry about it. I don't give out much info but it's just impossible to have as much privacy as I would like anymore.

bjnicholson 03-12-2011 04:01 PM

I only have it because it's the only way I get to see recent pictures of my DGD's. My DIL is just too into it IMO. She posts pictures of the guinea pigs and their babies and the bearded lizard and...yawn...are you as bored as I am?

the casual quilter 03-12-2011 04:02 PM

I don't have an account. I'm just not interested in having one.

quilter1943 03-12-2011 04:04 PM

I have an account but keep it inactive unless I want to look at something or check on something. There is just too much information given out on those sites for me.

I had to giggle... I did post pics of my bearded dragons, too ~ I may know your DIL if she's a member of a message board for dragon owners haa haa :)

DebbyT 03-12-2011 04:05 PM

I check with my facebook daily. I like to see the pics of family as well as check the sewing/quilting links. I have several I see regularly, such as Designs by Sick, Ricky Timms, Joann's, my LQSs, several blogs from other quilters, and more. Some post daily and others maybe once a week. I do limit my time to maybe 15 minutes. I also have to limit the time spent on QB because with that, I loose track of time. I don't play the games no matter how many times I am invited, or asked for farm supplies.

Sassylass 03-12-2011 04:07 PM

I also do not have FB nor do I want it.I prefer to spend my time here or quilting. :)

oh do you have a biz page there? I'll look for it! :-)

JUNEC 03-12-2011 04:15 PM

I don't Facebook or Twitter either. I don't have the time - But most importantly I don't trust Facebook - or I guess that fact that when you send something out you never seem to know where it will end up

estherblair 03-12-2011 04:21 PM

I am on facebook got on to keep up with news at church, but lots of old school friends have poped up i am enjoying it the only game i play occ. is word search i like it it is away to get family news everything can be mistreated but i try not too say are put any info on it that i would not do in person i believe in privacy too.
