Do you have a list for 2019?

So, I made my list of projects that I plan to make in 2019. I didn't get anything done in 2018, despite my good intentions. This list will hopefully give me goals and direction. Definite intentions.
I'd like to start hand applique on the Caswell Quilt, make a Christmas quilt, a Fall quilt, a Row quilt, join a BOM or BOW, a QAL and make some more table runners. I also wrote down my list of unfinished things. Hoping to check off most (?) of them. Some are minor fixings.
The big thing for me is the No But Challenge. I have more fabric than I could ever use in a lifetime.
What are you planning for 2019?

Kitsie 12-05-2018 08:18 AM

I didn't know until I saw that pattern!!! Maybe make a block or two! Thanks for the inspiration!

IrishgalfromNJ 12-05-2018 08:36 AM

I have a hexie quilt top that is languishing that I need to get back to. I can't make any other quilt tops until I get that one done, but that doesn't stop me from starting knitting and crochet projects.

Anniedeb 12-05-2018 09:18 AM

My list for 2019 is blank! Multiple health issues with DH, and a few for myself, made 2018 tough going. I was able to finish one baby quilt, small projects, and just made 10 tote bags, and about a dozen Scandinavian stars as Christmas gifts. Hopefully I'll get to all those quilts I planned to do. I've found going with the flow and taking things in stride is OK too. I do have many half finished projects I want to finish and clean up before I start any more, but, who knows!

My biggie for 2019 is something I have been looking forward to for some time. Bonnie Hunter will be in Shipshewana in late 2019. That's only eleven miles from me. I got busy and finished the top for Allietare, it was one of my UFOs, and on this board I found a long armer. Then I can be in the Show and Tell. It's not Bonnie Hunter colors, they are totally different.

Then for the rest of the year, I hope to quit buying more fabric and complete more UFOs.

I have a T-shirt that has been begging me to finish it for a year now so plan to do that in Jan. I have a Irish Chain started that I put on hold for Christmas and a Heat quilt cut. I also have a dog quilt cut and a quilt for one of my boys that needs to get done. We are having a reunion in July and I've been ask to make a raffle quilt for that. AND NO BUYING FABRIC unless I need it for a specific project.

No list yet, but most of what I should have quilted down last year still remains to be quilted. I had a lot of bad health this past year and just didn't/couldn't get stuff done. Plus the tops that were finished this year but not yet quilted. My to-be-quilted stack grows ever larger... I'm making a series of themed quilts for me for each month of the year in addition to other projects.

Top of my non-list is my farm quilt (August). Need to work on some paper pieced blocks and layout. I have fabrics collected/ready for a lone star sampler (is it still lone when there are 9 of them??), January's top. Fabrics are all blue/white snowflake designs and the lone stars will be sort of snowflake-like, I know the number of sides isn't correct but so it goes. Have another set ready for a Christmas string quilt, December's top. I made a top previously but decided it didn't compare with the other months and it was more of a couch sized than bed sized. Once those 3 tops are made, that will be my year. So far though I only have February, May, July, and October quilted down.

Still haven't gotten feedback on what to do for my newlywed son and DDiL, but that should make the list.

I know I want to do something this year with a 3-D effect but haven't chosen the design yet (hoping maybe the kids like that idea). I also know I want to make a contemporary style quilt and I have most of the fabrics collected for that, as well as a general idea of what I want to do. I have background and border fabrics chosen for a Hazel Hedgehog quilt, am going to use solid scraps for the Hedgehogs and need to pull those from my solids box, based on the colors from the border fabric.

Had a math moment or two when I was cutting the setting triangles for my Turkey fan quilt (November), somehow I cut the side setting triangles incorrectly, but the top/bottom were correct. Am working on fixing that today, fortunately I had (past-tense now) enough background fabric to recut the setting triangles.

Once I'm done correcting the top and putting on the borders I need to figure out something to take to my small group on Tuesday. Probably a children's donation quilt of some sort. It's not always easy for me to have something portable, we aren't really set up to bring our machines so I usually do some sort of cutting. For my contemporary quilt idea I will be making some one-block wonder blocks, maybe I can get my fabric ready and cut that.

Very interesting making 12 quilts for the year. I'd love to see the entire collection.

I made a list for 2018 and did pretty good sticking with it. I did add things as the year went along. I did find it helped me stay on track.

For my 2019 list I have about five quilt tops to finish, and hopefully quilt. I also will join a swap or two. I don't want to bite off too much as I'll be having our third baby in the summer.

Iceblossom 12-05-2018 11:28 AM

I have posted some of them in various threads, unfortunately I am not very good at taking pictures and some of my pictures (even though I keep all the stuff the same) seem to be too big to post or I otherwise have problems linking them, but I'll see what I can do.

I realized a few years ago even though I quilted all the time, all my own quilts were getting old and falling apart. Plus my skill set had changed and I wasn't as happy with what I had had as I was when I did them. I am trying really hard to use up fabrics I have, especially back around Y2K I used to do a lot of fabric swapping so had collections of themed fabrics.

So my monthly list is:

January -- Lone Star Snowflake Sampler (fabrics collected and pattern/concept ready)

February -- Valentines (completed quilt, made partially from Valentine swapped fabrics, need picture)

March -- St Patricks Day/Triple Irish Chain (what I call a "planned" quilt, that is made from one set of fabrics and not from scraps)
Last post/picture page 1
https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...n-t301119.html

April -- Easter Baskets (top made, not quilted, assorted color solid baskets filled with egg fabric)

May -- May Flower (completed quilt)
Mayflower is a pattern from the Ladies Art Company, very much like "Winding Ways" but without the curves and I've set it with a consistent white background. Each block is made from a different floral.

June -- Travel/Postcards (blocks made, actual postcard sized fabrics in a grey attic window, will be set together with black sashing to look sort of like the old scrap books with the black pages

July -- 4th of July (completed top, red/white/blue "planned" star blocks)

August -- Barn/Harvest (in progress, contemporary with a few pieced blocks and then lots of crops and animals and lots of embellishements)

September -- Houndstooth/Birthday month so my choice (top completed, not quilted)
middle of first page
https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...d-t300122.html

October -- Halloween Cats (completed "planned" quilt, Puss in the Corner block)

November -- Turkey/Thanksgiving fan (In progress, almost done correcting the too small setting triangles!)

December -- Christmas String (design picked, fabrics selected, not started)

I really thought I'd finish more UFO's this year, but hopefully I'm on my way. My list of current UFO's include:

Simple squares throw - finish quilting and binding. This was a commercial pattern.
Denim and cotton top - needs borders, backing and binding. Due to the size/weight this one will go out to quilt.
Bright ombre quilt - needs borders, backing and binding, quilting.
OBW - piecing it now, need to decide on border design, then all the following steps.

Things I haven't really started:

French Roses - I never got started due to struggling with my machine tensioning. Have the pattern and fabric, need to start.
Peacock bed runner - design finished, need to finish cutting fabric and piecing, etc.
Cat quilt for a friend - need to *design* the darn thing, and all following steps
Garden Fence quilt for my sister - designed, need to finish getting all fabrics, then all the following steps.
Homespun/flannel rag quilt - still in the concept phase, but yeah, I have the fabric already, lol.

Way too much!?

rryder 12-05-2018 12:12 PM

As usual, I have a stack of at least 20 UFOs. Last year my goal was to finish 12 UFOs (1 per month). I managed to finish 9 so far, but added a couple more to the pile (my BH ORL and my 2017 Temperature quilt). This fall I got bogged down with getting paintings ready for several shows and then had some health issues that really slowed me down. One UFO that I wanted to finish in Oct. got pushed back to Nov. and then to Dec.-- I still hope to get it finished before the end of 2018. We'll see.

For 2019 I will once again make a goal of finishing one UFO per month. I have several quilts that I want to enter in shows that need to be photographed and may need hanging sleeves and labels (I'll have to check). And I have several on-going projects that I need to keep pushing forward lest they also become UFOs. And I'm committed to participating in several art shows. Reading back over this paragraph I have a feeling there are too many things on my 2019 list since I'm trying to slow down  :D

humbird 12-05-2018 12:26 PM

I don't make lists or resolutions. Invariably, my resolutions will be broken, and I'd lose the list. I work on what ever calls to me at the moment. Right now, I'm hand quilting a top I pieced a few years ago. Perhaps I'll finish it in 2019. Who knows. No hurry, no stress. Just enjoy the journey.

SusieQOH 12-05-2018 12:59 PM

I plan to devote next year to lots more practice machine quilting. I don't spend enough time at it to be better than I am. I specifically want to improve my FMQ and use rulers that I bought for ruler quilting.

SillySusan 12-05-2018 02:31 PM

Making plans for the whole year?!! I can't seem to follow thru on the plans I make for VQW, but I try. I'm still going on the fabric fast I started last January. No buying any fabric at all! I am working to reduce my stash. All of 2018 (so far) I bought only 3 flat sheets (one was by accident) to make crib sheets for donation.

gramajo 12-05-2018 06:40 PM

I have a college graduation quilt to make for my grandson in May. Fabric is bought and pattern decided on. I have 5 months for the Kimberbell pillow covers to make. And I want to finish my temperature quilt from 2017. Then, of course, there are the various UFOs that need quilting. I also have to finish a BQ quilt for Christmas. I have lots of ideas for quilts I want to make 'someday'. We'll see about those. The RA in my hands is getting worse so everything is taking much longer.

Tartan 12-05-2018 07:21 PM

I am working on quilting a UFO that will be done before Christmas but I am going to do a scalloped edge with bias binding and that will take me into 2019. I have a lap quilt lined up to quilt after that with serpentine stitching lines. After that I will just work on whatever strikes my fancy.

petthefabric 12-05-2018 08:15 PM

I like having goals for the coming year. It's more dedicated than "I'd like to....."
So here goes:
1. Join the fabric moratorium. Last year must have made 50 charity quilts @~5yd/qt=250yds. This year I'd like to make 20 charity quilts @~5yds/qt=100yds.
2. Finish 12 UFO's. There are at least 6 quilts for forest fire victims that need LA & binding. One UFO is hanging on the wall looking at me. There's at least 2 quilt/bag from classes to finish. More will surface.
3. Finish all UFO's that need the LA. Clean it off and sell it. Then change the room to painting studio.
4. Make 6 art quilts for compitetions
5. Make 1 quilt for quild quilt show.

More will come to mind as the year goes on.

Tothill 12-05-2018 08:16 PM

My life is full of deadlines, so I do not impose them on my hobbies and passions.

I have a list of projects for the next few years.

In no particular order:

Kaffe Mystery Quilt
A BOM from a couple years ago
A Panda quilt for a niece
A cat quilt for a friend
A kit of simple squares, but the fabric makes it pop
Maple Leaf Quilt, I have been collecting fabrics and think I have all I need.

Although I have a HQ 16 in the basement, I have not used 'Diana' in two years. I have two tops that I will quilt by cheque, just to get them out of the house. One is going to be a gift, the other just to get it done.

I hope to attend 2 quilt retreats and perhaps some workshops too.

Mkotch 12-06-2018 03:39 AM

We hope to move in 2019, so I'll be de-stashing books, fabric, photos, etc. etc. Hope to finish a few UFOs and give them to people and charities. Then I'll have the fun of setting up a new sewing/guest room.

Cheryl7758 12-06-2018 03:41 AM

Lots to do in 2019, number one is recover from neck fusion surgery - have that on the 12th of this month - had it done at a lower level 12 years ago and recovery was fairly easy, hope this time is the same. (same surgeon)

2. get sewing room in new house ready to accept stuff from old house (lucky for me husband is staying in old house for a few years, so I can pick and choose when I move stuff)

3. help take care of granddaughters while parents are away from home at jobs (son home every third week for a week) (DIL will be away for 6 months, home on some weekends) - thankfully there are plenty of family and friends available to assist - their other grandma will be main caretaker (younger than me!)

4. make quilts for DGD's beds in my house (fabric & pattern ready)

5. arrange to have large items moved from house in Connecticut to house in Texas. Thinking machines will be packed into car and driven; other stuff will be sent via mover.

6. Enjoy not working midnight to 8am! maybe get part-time job in a new area of nursing - keeping options open - so done with correctional nursing. Of course I need to get a nursing license in Texas first, my current state license does not qualify for direct transfer of license - bummer!

7. quit rambling on in posts!! Hope everyone has a great holiday season and a happy new year!

PMahowald 12-06-2018 04:23 AM

Most definitely......Quilt the Bible Sampler Quilt top I made for myself along with matching shams, Twin size Civil War Battle Quilt for my son and make a queen size quilt for my daughter and son-in-law. They just finished redoing their bedroom. I gave them 12 different choices in patterns and had them choose 2 each and from there I would made the final decison on which one depending upon the fabrics I find. This way it will still be a surprise next Christmas and it gives me a year to complete the project. Picked up the fabric for the projects a couple of days ago so I'm good to go.

quilterpurpledog 12-06-2018 04:45 AM

I usually am not a list maker. That being said, it is too easy to be distracted from accomplishing what I really want to do because I add in this project or that project of say I will do more for a boutique group I belong to or my quilt guild. Last year, my list of accomplishments was impressive (to these other groups) but lacking in my opinion because I still have too may UFOs. So, I think I will make a list. Then, I will stick to it! Wish my luck!

countrymaid 12-06-2018 04:53 AM

I retire on January 11th. Can't begin to wrap my head around the list of to dos. Just looking forward to taking the time to sew and craft. First up is a quilt I started for my dad. He's been gone almost 5 years now. Then the list will come together as I clean and sort. No buying for me except for backing and batt.

rryder 12-06-2018 04:58 AM

Oops, forgot to add 21 st birthday quilt for youngest granddaughter. Fortunately that’s not due til next November.

Rob

Boston1954 12-06-2018 04:59 AM

Not a list really, but I think I will be doing more wall hangings to give away. I have so many lap quilts that I am running out of places to put them.

lindaschipper 12-06-2018 05:03 AM

I'm a Project Linus quilt maker, so planning on working up my stash of fabric for those, and will piece ones from the scraps that are leftover. I also plan on using my stash to make table runners and mats for a show or two next fall. And of course there is the laundry hamper of strips leftover to cut down to size and one major UFO in the closet that I would love to finish. I have two little grand-daughters ages 6 months and 4 1/2 so there will be some sewing for them of doll clothes, doll blankets and sleeping bags for the dolls I plan on giving to them next Christmas. I also have a set of 6 quilt blocks to finish embroidering to set into a quilt. Enough stuff to keep me busy and out of trouble (lol) wouldn't you say??

Kris P 12-06-2018 05:15 AM

I have a few Queen (plus) sized quilts that need to be basted and quilted... 3 English Paper Pieced quilts in progress and about 7 more various sized quilts ready to be quilted. 3 sets of quilt blocks that are ready to assemble and add borders. and a couple quilts that I'm working on the units for the blocks.
The Needs to be quilted pile is what is stressing me out most... next is the EPP group. Adding borders to these always stresses me out, because it requires removing all the templates, pressing carefully, usually also cutting off some of the hand pieced sections to make straight edges, and well, then it's another quilt that needs to be quilted. For some reason, I prefer to quilt for others. It's easier to decide what to quilt, and I have a deadline, so I just get it done. I tend to go round and round on my own quilts, dwelling on the possibilities too long.

Conchalea 12-06-2018 06:02 AM

I don’t have a list of will-do projects, but I have noted some like-to projects! Until this January I hadn’t quilted anything larger than tote bags for 2-3 years, but I really got motivated when I found some fabric pieces cut & pinned together in pairs in a box of my mom’s things. I put those together in blocks then in a quilt, which I finished fairly quickly. Then it was like I had quilting fever! In 2018 I started & finished 5 more quilts, 2 art wall hangings, 2 table runners, & 6 placemats. Whew! All that with no plans to quilt anything. The only thing I’m working on now is completing my daughter’s UFO. She had a stroke in April & no longer feels joy from quilting. She had all the blocks done so I’ve put them together & am in the process of quilting it. Once that’s finished, along with the binding, I’ll look at the saved pins on my quilt board on Pinterest & decide on my next project.

luvstoquilt 12-06-2018 06:32 AM

I joined a “Slash your stash” club and I did get a bit more organized. My stash is still LARGE though. Here is what I have decided to do again in 2019:

January will be dedicated to cleaning up my scraps. Last year it took me into February to get that completed. I made donation quilts from those scraps and loved how they turned out.

I don’t have a lot of UFO’s but I do have a lot of kits. Some are purchased but most are put together by me! I finish the top before I do the next one. House rule. Lol. I have a lot of kits for small quilts and really need to get them done. I love making them and quilting them. I hope I get those all done in2019. Where is Rumplestiltskin when you need him? Sigh

Snooze2978 12-06-2018 06:53 AM

Since I didn't finish my 2018 Wish List I guess trying to finish those projects already started which means to finish quilting the quilt still sitting on the frame since September, the 3 quilts I started at the quilt retreat in September, 2 quilts for the spare bedroom, the quilt I started at the March quilt retreat, 2 toilet seat covers (embroideries and fabric quilted), smoker cover (embroidery done) and finally start on the quilt for my own bed. Yes, my bed has yet to see its own quilt cause my name has never been drawn from the basket. Sad, yes I know. If I can just get half of this done next year I'll be happy.............all would put me over the moon.

Suz 12-06-2018 07:05 AM

Kitsie, please share the quilt pattern you saw for your inspiartion.

Suz 12-06-2018 07:07 AM

I do not have a list per se, but I know in my head that I have to finish a lot of projects before I can anything new. BUT it is so hard not to look to something new.

jmoore 12-06-2018 07:28 AM

Sewingitalltogether and Iceblossom, I envy your enthusiasm and list of projects. Cheryl, I hope your neck recovery is successful so you can do the things you enjoy. Countrymaid, I have recently (semi) retired and it feels strange...there are days I feel guilty about being in my sewing room, almost like you’re playing hooky from school but I love it!

I make a list the first of each year and I do find it helpful to keep on track. I had listed 4 or 5 UFO’s to complete for 2018 and only have 2 left that need quilting, On Ringo Lake and my Gypsy Wife but I am hoping to finally have my own longarm by the end of 2018 (which I have yearned for about 3 years).

The only project I didn’t get to on my 2018 list is a Doug Leko pattern...I haven’t picked which one as he has many wonderful ones to chose from. I took a class with him about 4 years ago and he is coming back to Maine July 2019. Like Rob, it seems other projects sneak into our sewing rooms...sometimes unexpectedly. I made a T-shirt quilt for my mom’s 75th birthday and I participated in the Riley Blake “Meet the Makers” sew along so I will now have that to add to my 2019 UFO list. I’m looking forward to 2019 and hope to get many things accomplished!

momsbusy 12-06-2018 07:46 AM

I have some quilts tops that I have made with the intention of ruler quilting them. I also have many unfinished projects.

oksewglad 12-06-2018 07:48 AM

Another non list person here...I hate to be pressured to finish something...I like my own pace when I sew.

Like many of you I have stash to reduce and would like to get quilts made from stash as I finish my UFO's. Currently want to finish the Queen sized quilt I'm working on before Christmas. I'm also working on the Burgoyne Surrounded QAL here on the board. From there on I just sew as I go.

annievee 12-06-2018 08:08 AM

No list but will continue to donate fabrics I will not be using. DGD is getting AG doll so think clothes and shoes for her dolly will be in order. Will continue doing my crafts that I sell all year. Busy, Busy
