Yes, I have a young friend (40ish) that makes all her quilts by hand and quilts them by hand. She's afraid of a sewing machine.

Just for your information, a hand pieced, hand quilted one will appraise at a very high price. Did one for my Son and his wife in Queen size that appraised over $1800.00 for insurance purposes. Will never do another as they are very time consuming and I found I tired of it before I was finished but if you travel alot this is a good way to pass time without having a sewing machine to rely on.

I believe there are couple of people in the different guilds I belong to in the area.

I have never pieced by hand as I am always afraid my stitches would not be small enough, but you can do any block that way, and the hand pieced and quilted quilts are beautiful. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress

Most of the quilts I make are hand pieced and hand quilted. I just finished hand quilting my daughter's wedding quilt and have a twin size bed quilt on my floor frame. I also use my sewing machine to piece quilts but I rather hand piece.

I noticed you are in Western Pa. If you are in the south west, there is a group of ladies in Monongahela who hand construct a raffle quilt every year for a church. You do not have to be a member of that church to quilt with them. My friend has joined the group, doesn't belong to that church, and has learned alot. Some of the ladies in that group are in our guild; they're awesome ladies. If you're interested, pm me and I'll hook you up.

there are plenty of women from different Amish sects that still hand sew & quilt -- they are quite abundant in eastern PA!
many of the ladies would be more than happy to show you how -- not sure about the western part of PA, though...

I have an aunt who does everything by hand and even cuts her blocks with scissors.

My dsil does this. She uses this method on small quilts/wall hangings. She has sold some to them. I have an aunt who machine pieces, but hand quilts all of her quilts. She loves to hand quilt.
