Yes, It makes a difference! If you are using it as a border and want it longer than 40"( including miter), it would make sense to by it vertically. If you a using in a landscape that less than 40" then horizontally is best. But if you own a quilt shop, I'm sure you're aware of this.

I love batiks. I would use the brown to blue one to make tree trunks and the red for a sunset. The blue could be the lagoon.:)

I could see a use in landscapes!

Yes I do. The top one could be used as water, or cut a certain way it would make vibrant tropical leaves.

The magenta stripes could be so many things it would need to be tried out on everything to look for a good 'fit'.

The bottom one would be fantastic for weathered wood that's gotten wet from rain, wood grain, water, rocks, or any other out door surface...

(Yeah, I like art quilts. Batiks are wonderful for those.)

I find that the striped batiks make GREAT binding for quilts and also they're great for little pieces in among larger pieces. They don't always look that great by themselves but they are very nice when used the right way. And.........I still have lots of stripe batik for sale. Private message me if you are not already on my mailing list and I can give you info.

I've used the blue/green in a landscape as pond water and the stripe one on another quilt as the binding... cut on the bias. Loved them both and will buy more of same when I have a chance.

I think they are beautiful & just need the right pattern. Amma's idea of the pinwheels would be good. I remember seeing a really neat quilt using striped fabric at the Sister's quilt show that was gorgeous!!

That is a perfect example of how to use striped batik in a quilt!!!
Maybe there are a few other quilters out there who could share some of their use of striped batik material too?
