Hi,
I was wondering when everyone quilts or sew? I have been sewing at night time after hubby goes to bed. I have my sewing machine set up in family room with big screen tv, computer so it makes it easy to do all 3 things in one room. I am now paper piecing and making some hexagons by hand. I hope to hear back from all of you quilters around the world. Karen "Craftybear" Indiana, USA |
I quilt whenever. It could be morning, evening or the middle of the night.

Hi,
Awesome, what are you working on now?

I mostly quilt at night. I think I have my days & nights mixed up. LOL The house is quiet and no phone ringing off the hook. But with that phone, you cannot nap during the day either. *sigh* I do sew in the afternoon sometimes. Great question. Thanks for asking.

I quilt whenever I get a chance
...'tho I have got out of the habit of carrying a "ditty bag" of hand work (a ziplock with some hexies or a stitchery with a few threaded needles) |
I quilt whenever I get a chance. I usually wake up at 3-3:30 and have a cup of coffee, then go upstairs and quilt for a while until my husband wakes up. Unless I get stuck on the board :) :) Otherwise, it depends on when I can get time alone.
I take yo-yo's with me if we travel. I have them in a small cosmetic bag with about 50 circles pre-cut. I can whip up one or two on a short trip. |
I quilt every free minute I get working on 4 different quilts now. I have 3 doing by machine and 1 doing by hand only. Thats the one I take with me to work on.
|
I try to do it in daytime - if I have hand work to do, I will do that in the evening.
|
I generally do all my sewing in the evenings as I work full time and have other hobbies that take up the daytime at weekends.
I try to get at least a couple of hours in a few times a week. :) |

I quilt anytime I can--whenever the urge hits. The time I try to avoid using the sewing machine is if I'm really tired because I make frustrating mistakes. Usually when I'm tired is when I do my hand stuff instead. Sometimes if I wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, I'll sew then.

I quilt whenever life lets me... Usually when the baby takes a nap. Life just seems to get out of the way lately, but when it slows down I get as much done as I can.

I quilt whenever I'm awake! Yeah, sometimes I have to stop to cook....LOL I'm retired so I can do what I want, when I want. Mostly I sew in the early mornings because it's too cold here to go outside to do anything. When it warms up I go out to the shop to the quilting machine. And I FORCE myself to clean house one morning of the week. I'm fortunate to have a DH that'll help with cooking, cleaning and vacuuming. And I'm KEEPING him!!!

Since I semi-retired I quilt most afternoons for about 3-4hrs. I learned the hard way not to quilt when I'm tired and working with black thread and fabric and it's dark: sewed my finger!!
Dee: if you won't give up DH could I borrow him? LOL. My DH starts prowling around the sewing room about 5 o'clock looking hungry. I guess that's a hint to quit sewing and go get dinner (I use the crockpot 2-3 days a week). Cleaning? Well, let's just say it's a good thing we don't have dust allergies! |
I work full time outside of the home so mainly I quilt when I can squeeze in time in the evenings.
My husband works full time in ministry and heads up our bible study group on thursday evenings so homework has taken priority up to this point. I usually spend time on Wednesday evenings sewing while my husband takes a nap, then when he goes back to work on Wednesday after the children bible clubs I will sew some more. I like to sew on Saturdays as well when I dont have other responsibilities around the house. It is hard to find the time. I wish I was at home and could sew daily but I cant right now. One of these days when I retire I may be able to do that! |
I don't work, so I get to quilt whenever I want, as long as I remember to stop and feed DH and the dogs:)I have learned that quilting late at night is not a good thing for me, to many mistakes.
|
I sew anytime, since I've retired. When I start on a new project, I cannot quit until it's done, a lot of times I sew around the clock, then sleep. DH keeps the household running.
|
I work two jobs and am trying to plan a wedding so... I quilt when I can! Mostly evenings and weekends. If I get a Sat. or Sun. off, I'll lock myself up with my sewing machine for hours :)

I work mornings so most of my fun time is afternoons and evenings. My quilting room is an office space off the master bedroom. I want to switch it to one of the spare bedrooms. It is going to be a project and I haven't worked up the energy to do it. |
I'm retired too. I quilt during the day whenever I can.
|
I quilt when I want. Usually, it's late afternoon. DH is not dependent on me for meals if I decide to sew instead of cook.

Sorry for double post. I am on a laptop and keep hitting the wrong key.

usually in the morning,i get off work by 9am,and I find it works best for me
|
I've been trying to get a little done each evening after work and also a couple of hours on the weekends. In the past I liked to set aside bigger blocks of time but haven't been able to do that lately. The hard part is stopping after an hour or so because once I get started I like to keep going. But I find I'm making more progress than waiting for those bigger blocks of time.
|
Any time I can.
|
I quilt evenings and after midnight. In the daytime I'm too sleepy, or busy, one extreme or another. Afternoons I spend with my dh, he works nights.
|
I work full-time M through F, so I try to spend a little sewing time in the evenings after running errands on the way home, supper, a 2 mile walk, taking my dogs out to potty, and a chore or two so I won't have all of it to do on the weekend. Whew!
And I reserve Sunday afternoons for me and my sewing machine. I love Sunday afternoons! |
Until recently, I was working full time and could only quilt on the weekends. Weekday evenings are filled with autistic son's homework, making dinner, listening to DH's day, etc.. I was laid off a few weeks ago, and I find that I am LOVING having time during the day to quilt! Am about to finish my second quilt in a couple of weeks!
I've been working on a train quilt for my son that involves hand-applique of hundreds of little railroad ties, so I always take this along with me when I need some handwork to do! |
Morning, noon and night which ever turns out to be the most convient time for me.
|
I can cut during the day if the kids aren't too crazy. Sewing in the evening, while daddy does the baths.
|
Whenever I can!
|
I quilt whenever I'm feeling well. I'm on disability (sew I don't work) and my time is my time! I try not to sew when my DH is home unless he's watching something on TV that I'm not interested in, then off to the sewing room I go!
|

I also quilt whenever I have the time. If I have to get something done for a specific time I quilt every evening (I work full time during the day) and when I get up on the weekends.
I would much rather quilt than watch TV or clean. Ann Marie |

Do you quilt/sew daytime, evening or night time?
Answer: YES |
Though I work full time, I sew (or am in the sewing retreat)a bit every day. I usually do marathons on Saturday - have been known to start at 10am and still going at it at 12:30 or 1am. It is my husband (who is an avid golfer - so no interruptions there) and a 25 year old DD, who has two boys 6 & 3. The boys are always watching me and love to help sew in short attention spans. The 6 year old wants to make a Transformers quilt...what a way to pass down the knowledge! Hmmmm.....dishes or sew....vacuum or sew.....sleep or sew - well that does pose a problem at times!
