I was ironing fabric today, flipped it over, and there was a face staring back at me. Either a dog like Lady from Lady and the Tramp or a long hair hippie type guy. I have another fabric that looks like a bald beatnik with a goatee. And many others (thinking of making a quilt with fabric faces :D ). And as I showed the face to my boyfriend, he wondered how many of you see faces in your fabric. So, do ya?

SaraSewing 02-03-2010 08:46 PM

And were you smoking "wacky tobaccy?" Tee hee. Or were you up really really really late? I don't see faces (or hear voices). But you sure have a great imagination!

jewelps 02-03-2010 08:50 PM

see if you can take a picture of it next time and we will see it, never know we might be smoking the same "wacky tobaccy"
LOL LOL LOL

Bobbinwinder 02-03-2010 08:59 PM

Might want to think long and hard about getting more sleep and cutting back on the caffeine. I think taking pictures is a good idea too...but don't try to get rich auctioning them off on eBay....LOL

kwhite 02-03-2010 09:03 PM

Check your medical insurance. You likely have psychiatric coverage too.

skpkatydid 02-03-2010 09:30 PM

My mind must be predisposed to seeing faces. I have seen faces in flooring, fabric and various places. I think it has to do with some peoples creative abilities.

kwhite 02-03-2010 09:34 PM

I am just kidding BTW!!!

Astramorgaine 02-03-2010 09:54 PM

I guess if you looked at anything long enough you can see different shapes, kinda like looking at the clouds and seeing kittens and such.

I've never seen faces in fabric, but do see faces and other objects in lots of things. I thought I could see a face in this piece of driftwood. only one person I showed it too could see it. The second image is how she fixed it so you could see the face.

turned out to be this

Haven't seen faces; however, have seen psychedelic flower colors jumping out at me in Springtime, while driving down a particular street in a local town with beautiful flowers. I need to take a paintbrush & canvas to see if I can capture that this year. Yes, I'm certifiably insane, & that's what attracts certain people to me. They can pick me out of a crowd. I lived in California too long back in the 1970s. ROFLM_O

tlrnhi 02-04-2010 02:42 AM

Hmmm..........I see tons of things that aren't there, or so I have been told. Being on an island, there are things here that locals will talk about, but others won't.
Anyone remember Taotaomano? ;)
I also hear voices at times....the ones in my head don't count. I really do think I am going crazy at times, but then again...I LOVE living in MY world!

Just look at all the people who see things (faces etc) in other things. You aren't strange at all. A friend of mine told me once that when that happens, you are thinking with your creative side. :)

Same here. My DM got me started when I was very young. It was the way her Art School had her percive things. So she told me.

Darlene 02-04-2010 04:47 AM

The driftwood is so cool.

Here's a rock that I call Monkey Face. It is about 40' high.

I don't see faces in fabric, but it could be only a matter of time before I succumb to the illness as well!

tlrnhi 02-04-2010 05:09 AM

That looks like a monkeys face made out of legos. lol

marsye 02-04-2010 05:36 AM

I want some of what you all are drinking!!!!!! LMAO!!

BellaBoo 02-04-2010 05:37 AM

Would you believe that my 3rd grade teacher taught my class how to look for faces/people/animals in textures? I have never forgotten it. There were two classmates in that class that became successful artists and they started out tracing the figures and shapes they saw when no one else, other then our class, could see them. I remember in elementary school we were taught how to be creative whether we were or not.

mrs. fitz 02-04-2010 05:48 AM

Barb-MO, for what it's worth I saw the face instantly in the first photo; didn't have to search for it at all.

renee765 02-04-2010 06:02 AM

Relax - we're all okay (or we'll all crazy but then who would know?). Seeing faces in objects is a natural phenomenom called pareidolia.

One explanation is here: http://www.skepdic.com/pareidol.html

Camping Betty 02-04-2010 06:02 AM

OMG I am glad I am not alone
I see faces in about every texture, clouds, wood, wall paper, but havent looked at my stash of fabric yet i bet I can see them If I look.

If you get and Jesus or the Virgin Mary you could probably sell them on E-bay - remember the grilled cheese sandwich with Mary's face?

I'm glad it's not just me

All of the rest of y'all are missing out!! And I will take a picture of the beatnik and post it, as soon as I can find my camera.

*mutters to self "I'll show them I'm not crazy"*

Ummm, okay, pictures for you skeptics

The first one is the face I see, hair, sunglasses, no nose/mouth.

The 2nd is the fabric rotated, which is the beatnik type serial killer face my boyfriend immediately saw. Big forehead, sunglasses and creepy goatee thing

The 3rd is another face, not any of the ones referenced in earlier posts. And while we're looking - how great did my points turn out? :D

Face I see

gramysews 02-04-2010 08:57 AM

I saw both faces right away but then I also talk to myself and play scrabble with imaginary friends! :? :-D

chris_quilts 02-04-2010 09:07 AM

Your points are beautiful and I did see the faces in your fabric. LOVE the colors on the piece with points.

JoanneS 02-04-2010 09:08 AM

I saw all the faces - but I don't know if it was because you had pre-disposed me to see them!

wvdek 02-04-2010 09:10 AM

Lol I'm in good company cuz I saw all of them right away. Love the two wearing sunglasses in the fabric. Monkey rock is cool. However, the driftwood looks like a bear lying in water, too.
One of the QB members posted this. First thing I saw were the faces in the hearts.
Too funny.

pam1966 02-04-2010 09:18 AM

I've seen faces in every picture that you all have posted. I see faces in almost everything, so I'm not surprised. And no, I don't smoke the wacky tobacky or drink either. ;)

nellie 02-04-2010 09:29 AM

boy if i tell my family i see face,s in my fabric two things would happend 1 for sure they lock me up and 2 they would have a big bomb fire thats for sure ,so if i see face,s i,ll keep that to myself :-D

Dancing Needle 02-04-2010 09:35 AM

I see all the faces too. I'm going to start checking my fabric more closely to see who's lurking.

I go To The Sea To Breathe 02-04-2010 09:39 AM

I haven't seen the faces in fabric, but I have seen faces in wood that was used on a wall. But I didn't tell anyone about it, You are braver than I am. Actually I did see faces in a floor tile once, but I tried not to look at it...LOL

I go To The Sea To Breathe 02-04-2010 09:46 AM

that fabric is full of faces, did you see the one like a small childs shillioute with a little turned up nose? just to the bottom and left of the first one, and then there are several more all solid black......there is one artist of mainly horses and indians in the woods that when you look into his pictures you see all kinds of other things, like deer, dogs, people etc. they have those in one of the drs. office out here, not a head dr. ha ha. and remember those pages that use to come in a children's magazine, and it would always have a page of hidden objects that you had to find.....we are normal!!!!!

dlf0122quilting 02-04-2010 10:23 AM

I don't know if I could cut my fabric after seeing a face in it.

I saw the face immediately in the before picture. I have a friend who finds hearts, especially in rocks and stones. Don't let the skeptics bother you. They are the ones missing out!

Oh boy, I'm in trouble! At first I saw an eagle but then saw the face. The makeup really pulls it together!

I don't see faces in fabric so maybe I'm not in trouble after all!

I think that's a huge talent; seeing the pattern in everyday things... so you're thinking of doing a portrait quilt? Those are amazing! the way the different pieces are placed, along with the stitching .... shows so much depth, and texture...
I hope to see your master peice.

I saw the face in the first one right off. What does that say about me?
