I sew right up to the pin, when it gets under the foot, then I remove it. I have broken needles and bent too many pins to sew over them anymore.

never!! I have had machine needles break off and fly across the room.
|
If I think about it I pull them out when I come to them...more often than not though I just sew right over them. I so far have not broken a needle doing this or a pin.
|
never, ever on purpose. It's not the pin or the sewing machine needle that I'm concerned about.
It's: #1 - the timing etc. of my prized machine that would be costly to have repaired. #2 - a piece of metal flying either into the machine causing repairs, or worse...into the sewer's eye. Please reconsider your perspective. :) |
If you have a computerizedmachine, there is a computer just for the needle and it is very sensitive.
|
Sorry, but I was using a computer machine when I hit that needle. Best to just take them out than to be sorry!

I sew over pins all the time with my old Bernina 930. I try to take them out as I go, but don't worry about it. I have broken a few needles, but very few and my Bernina always works like a charm. I take it in for it's year+ tune ups, and nothing is ever wrong with it, just normal oiling and cleaning. It is over 25 years old.

NO. I read somewhere it can knock your machine out of time.
I sure don't want that. Plus it can break your needle or dull it. Keep it rock'in simple quilter |
I pull them out as I go.

Use to with old machine but new baby is too tempermental. I hate to baste so I always left the pins in & sewed over them. These new machines today are so funny so I pin sideways & pull out as I go.
