Like the others I would never wash a quilt in hot water--cool or warm only.

I only use warm or cold for my old and new quilts.

No, would never use hot water. And yes, lay flat to dry.

I wash my quilts (for the first time only) in hot water because I use Synthrapol to ensure no dye bleeds settle into the fabric, and Synthrapol requires hot water to be totally effective. I do not prewash my fabrics, so I use hot water and Synthrapol in the largest front-loader at the local laundromat to ensure no unwanted bleeds. After that, it is cool water washes only.

I wash all my laundry in cold water however I found that this did not work to get the glue out when I glue basted so now I wash the quilts in warm water. I have a high efficiency washer so use the setting that gives me extra water when I do a quilt. I have dried them both laying flat and in the dryer. It really depends on what the weather is outside which method I use.

I usually wash all my clothes in warm water, because it isn't that warm but fills faster than just cold water alone. Most people I know do the same. For drying, almost everything I dry on low. If it is a nice day, and I have time, will do a partial dry then hang it outside to finish.

I wash all of my gift quilts in warm water with a color catcher and tumble dry. I give instructions for washing and include a color catcher.

When my DGs stayed with us they got a case of head lice at school and you bet I washed there quilts in hot water. Tehu cane out fine . A little puckered but otherwise okay.

Only white clothes are washed in hot water here.

Everything else, including quilts, are washed in COLD water.

Instructions on how to wash a quilt is a good idea.

I think a " quilt that is to be used a lot" should be able to withstand a hot water wash, BUT I think they look nice longer if washed gently in cool to warm water.
