Yup! If the fabric is one I especially love, it takes me a long time to get up the nerve to commit it to a project and then to find the courage to cut it. I go into scissor and rotary blade paralysis.

I'm so glad to find that I really am not alone... LOL I was starting to worry about myself...

Could you explain more about what Focus Pocus and BQ are? I tried a web search but there are a lto of things named Focus Pocus. Thanks! |
I have several pieces of fabric I want to use badly but I can't decided on the best pattern. Oh well I will keep looking.

Yes, or I never seem to get to it because I have to finnish other items.
Yep.....that's me! Hate to cut it......love to look at it and touch it......can't decide what to make :-D

I have a hard time cutting several of my fabrics. When I think there is a great pattern, my next thought is I will find a better one soon. I take it out, refold it, touch it and try to match it to a pattern. That's how I my stash got out of hand. Oh well, I am trying to bust the stash so someday soon.
lol, have you been looking in my stash.I have so many that I just can not cut up.

Could you explain more about what Focus Pocus and BQ are? I tried a web search but there are a lto of things named Focus Pocus. Thanks! BQ Pattern is by Maple Island. In the pattern you will find instructions for both block sizes. It is is an excellent pattern for showcasing large scale prints. It appears as though it is a 3D block, and it it's relatively easy to make. I''ve made two of these quilts. My advise is to make sure they are cut precisely, otherwise you'll not have good looking blocks to showcase your focus fabric. In your search engine type MapleIslandQuilts.com and that should take you to their web site. If you decide on that pattern and have a problem feel free to PM me and I'll help you. I know nothing about the Focus Pocus pattern. Linda |
Yes! I finally gave my favorite fabric to my sister Laura to use becuase I just couldn't get myself to cut it.

4 fabric whisperer.... love your bag... what is it's name please?

I have a big Double Nine Patch made of 81 different fabrics, with squares cut 9" square, just for this reason. Set it with silly sashing (smiling suns) and backed it with manatee fabric that I couldn't stand to cut up. Then I tied it with bright embroidery floss. I use it all the time and it's my favorite. Nothing to show off, nothing fancy, just what I love.
I just spent $30 on a yard of fabric I have been searching for almost 3 years now. $30!!!! No idea how I'm going to be able to cut it!!
Im new here, new to quilting. I am in awe everytime I snoop thru the forum. Each one of you is so incredibly talented. I can't imagine your feeling threatened or fear of messing up and ruining your favorite cut. Have confidence, your thoughts and ideas, how you put your craft to work is amazing!

My problem seems to be that fabrics I didn't know I liked that much, became favorites after I had used them in a quilt. Something about how once they mingled with the other fabrics in the quilt made me realize that I loved them. Oops too late, now they are in the quilt being given away, instead of my stash.
YES! I admit it. This is why I have LOTS of fabric in my sewing room. I wonder if there is some kind of counseling for my reluctance to cut the little beauties...
For years I have just added to my batisk collection, just couldn't seem to cut them up but I've been a lot better in the past year. I've decided I WILL use them in my quilts..then they won't be in a cabinet in the dark...instead they will be in a pretty quilt on a bed. Makes more sense to me.

Here is the fabric that I just couldn't bear to cut, so I just treated it as a whole-cloth.

Last week I pulled out my Christmas fabric and looked and looked at my patterns, trying to get the right feel as to what to use the fabric for.I almost put it back in my closet for another year but didn't. I made placemats and table topper and am on the second set, I am very pleased with how they turned out and happy I finally cut that cloth!I am finding myself not wanting to use my fabric more and more. I think I am not being to smart. This is why we buy fabric and why companies make it.This keeps the economy going,at least this is what I tell my husband!
Yes, and more than a few. But am working on finding patterns that will work with them, so that I may enjoy them in this lifetime! :)
I'm getting over it. I figure that I have another 25 years to live and I want to enjoy SEEING the fabric either on the wall or on the bed. That's getting me to those now.
Yes! It takes me quite a bit to talk myself into using my "favs".....
looks great... I love it.

Glad to see this thread. I have the same problem and mentioned it to a friend a couple of months ago and she just looked at me like I was crazy, so I thought maybe it was just me. She doesn't make quilts, but sews other things beautifully, so I think she only buys what she wants for a specific project. Glad to see others with this problem, guess I need to work harder on her to quilt.
I agree, it is tough to use them, just find something you know you will keep for a long time, then its not quite so bad.:)
Oh yeah, I do.

I have some beautiful black fabric with 2-3 inch real red roses on it, almost 3D; and I have no idea of what kind of a pattern I could use to show it off with. I thought of a big block quilt pattern but have not found one yet. Any ideas out there or a kind of a pattern for it. I have some green leaves fabric.also????????? Your help is appreciated. I think we all get stuck at figuring or deciding at times.
You can probably make a Snowball block using the Black Fabric with the red rose. For the Corners of the square maybe use a med to light color green

I just used three one yard pieces from 2005 that I got at JoAnn's when I first started quilting. I thought I was pretty clever to be able to match the fabrics so well. When the Super Nine Patch Baby Quilt site was posted the other day I knew exactly what I was going to make with those fabrics! I put the first one together this morning, and boy, am I excited!!! It may take a while, but the wait will be worth it!
Thank you, that is an excellent idea.
This should of been my quote, because I so have the same problem. If you find the answer for it, let me know. haha!

I have totally felt that way but I decided to just go for it and use the fabrics to make heirloom-worthy quilts :)
