I have quite a few but don't want to use them - I know it is silly but I just can't seem to find the right project for them.

Murphy 09-13-2011 10:01 AM

I did, but decided I was wasting enjoyment. I looked for large block quilt patterns that would show off their beautify and am busy creating new quilts that truly can be enjoyed rather than languishing in a drawer hidden away. Take a look at Focus Pocus, or BQ, etc. You may find the perfect one. Keep us posted.

DebsShelties 09-13-2011 10:03 AM

I have several fabrics I love, have decided that I want to cut a 6 - 10" block, then stitch them together with a thin sashing. That way I have my favorites in a piece just for me.

LisaGibbs 09-13-2011 10:05 AM

I have an entire room full of them. DH and I are doing our kind of spin on the sabbatical of fabric buying to help me on finishing what that stash should be. He cooks and does laundry, I sew and clean and no more fabric unless it is determined to be needed for a UFO. Three days into it he is going strong, I suddenly have a desire for fabrics I would once have never been caught dead buying.

crafty pat 09-13-2011 10:09 AM

I really hate to cut into some fabrics but I do and I am usually happy I did.

valsma 09-13-2011 10:18 AM

Gosh yes. I have this one that is just beautiful but I don't want to put it with anything. Everytime I take it out and think it will look good with this fabric or that fabric, I end up putting it back. Right now that is the only one I want to not use for anything.

romanojg 09-13-2011 10:20 AM

When I see a fabric I buy some; a yard or two depending on how much I like it and the price. I add it to my stash and then when I find a pattern that will do it justice I have no problems using it.

ROFLMBO ~ again and again and again! Whole family has giggle-snits on this one!
Here is one that took me YEARS to cut... only recently did my precious Laurel Burch get snipped! (and the remaining yardage is tucked safely back into her shelf!!!)

I love orientals and had this one large piece that I just couldn't bear to cut up, so I made a whole cloth out of it. Turned out really pretty and my oldest daughter now has it.

Flying_V_Goddess 09-13-2011 10:43 AM

I have some Japanese kanji prints that I bought simply because I thought they were awesome, but have no freaking clue what to do with them.

But I also have favorites that I bought that are going into the two quilts I'm making for myself (a scrappy purple cathedral quilt and a Kittie---my favorite band---t-shirt quilts). Maybe that's the solution: use the fabrics we really, really, REALLY love for quilts for ourselves. :)

whyiquilt 09-13-2011 10:54 AM

I have a big box of batik fat quarters I start saving since the late 90's. I add new ones regularly. I just can't bear to use them because I know I will never find again.

raedar63 09-13-2011 01:14 PM

yep....

JenniePenny 09-13-2011 01:19 PM

Yes. There have been a few. One particular piece of fabric took me four years of petting, thinking, comparing with other fabrics, etc, before I figured out exactly what to do with it. Guess what, it looks prettier in the quilt top.

MadQuilter 09-13-2011 01:44 PM

Don't fight it. The right project will come along. Happened to me a few times. Until the project made itself known, I was not able to cut into that fabric.

NDQuilts 09-13-2011 02:00 PM

The ones I cannot cut go on the back sometimes. That way it can be admired as a whole.

valleyquiltermo 09-13-2011 02:06 PM

Been there done that and still have a few. The right pattern comes along sooner or later. When it does you'll love the quilt.

Lady Crafter 09-13-2011 02:17 PM

Yes ... I have two pieces of a Hoffman challenge fabric from the mid-90s. Beautiful, bright butterflies that have found a place amid the stacks of butterfly fabrics that I collect. I don't think I will EVER cut that fabric. I DO pet it occasionally....

frarose 09-13-2011 02:31 PM

I have this problem really bad. I have a basket full of B/W fq's that I won't cut. I have about 20 feedsacks that I want to make a quilt from but I don't want to cut them until a perfect pattern appears and I wonder if it ever will.

maryel 09-13-2011 02:55 PM

I sure do "get attached" to some of my stash more than others and will not use them for anything unless it is the "right" project! I totally understand how you feel...

Cattyqwltr 09-13-2011 03:01 PM

Yep, my cat fabrics. I love cats and quilting and the combination is just irresistable. However, putting those cute fabrics into a project proves very difficult, unless i'm making something for another cat lover.

hobbykat1955 09-13-2011 03:22 PM

Yup with you...hard to cut some fabrics, takes me mths to decide what to do with them and then still hesitate and go out for new fabric to use...But eventually I cut it and it gets used...

QM 09-13-2011 03:24 PM

I am making an effort to use them. Several have found good homes. Garden Maze is one good setting for fabrics you want to use in large pieces.

kiffie2413 09-13-2011 03:24 PM

A big huge Yes! I can totally relate to you!! LOL...

deedum 09-13-2011 04:13 PM

I have some that I bring out and touch it, refold and decide not to cut into that beautiful fabric and I put it back! I usually say "I will say that for later". NOt a big problem yet!

I've got a yard of some fabulous butterflies that will never be cut!

auntpiggylpn 09-13-2011 04:47 PM

I have fabrics that I absolutely refuse to cut into! I know, what a waste of money; Not to me! These babies have their very own shelf and I get them out often, unfold them, pet them, refold them and put them back on the shelf. I lost just about everything in a nasty break up almost 2 years ago and my fabrics were one of the few things I was allowed to take with me when I left. I treasure these fabrics and will probably never cut them. . .

SherriB 09-13-2011 05:04 PM

It seems like I am in good company!!! LOL! I have a couple shelves full of fabric that I just can't bear to cut into. I keep telling myself to cut, sew, quilt and enjoy the fabric, but so far it isn't working. LOL!!

Deb watkins 09-13-2011 05:25 PM

oh man, I am right here in this. I have several (and I do mean several) yards of assorted oriental fabric. I love them so......and yet just cannot find the appropriate pattern/block to present them in. I also have 4 different yardages of a mauve/cranberry/pink......I have had that for 4 years. I just look and drool. I guess I need some help!! Maybe we all need to get together, bring our precious stash and help each other! Quilting weekend anyone?

ManiacQuilter2 09-13-2011 05:40 PM

It is so HARD to cut into one's favorite fabrics. But hopefully, someone will get enjoyment out of the quilt that I make !!!

Jill 09-13-2011 06:06 PM

I have several that I've been holding onto for years. Just today I used the remaining fabric for the third and final border on a scrap quilt. Then I almost shrieked because toward the very end I realized I was about 6" short. I went through my scrap bins and couldn't find any. I did have one piece left that was about 2-1/2" wide (I needed 3-1/2") and 12 inches long. Thank goodness it was dark and busy because I was able to sew the two strips together and cut it into a 3-1/2" width and finish the border. But now my fabric is all gone....

damaquilts 09-14-2011 04:10 AM

A perfect project will come along. I don't usually have the problem of cutting into a new fabric but the vintage ones are a real problem for me. I know for sure most of these I will never see again. But I am getting better.

Needlegrammy 09-14-2011 04:24 AM

Yes, I have a lot of Jo Morton fabric. Just can't cut it!!!

quiltbuddy 09-14-2011 04:31 AM

I buy the large rolls of fat quarters can't that I can't even bring myself to crack open! They're too pretty. Always saving for that special project.

Rubyrednails2 09-14-2011 04:33 AM

I feel the same way with some of my fabrics but really.....are we saving it so when we are gone(never know when our time is up!) the kids sell it on the estate sale for $1.00 a box of fabric or give it to Goodwill? We really should use it instead of saving it. I had an Aunt who used her best china every Sunday to serve the Sunday dinner to her family. Her thought is who is more important than your own family? And why save it for the next wife when she is gone? LOL

knlsmith 09-14-2011 04:39 AM

Oh my, I have too many that Ilike and hate to cut. But I am doing a few here and there, in my head. Lol

Marge L. 09-14-2011 05:11 AM

I have many pieces that are all my favorites. Why else would I have bought them? I also see that someone else likes butterflies. I have at least 7 pieces of them. Now trying how to use them to enhance their beauty (at least to me they are beautiful).

Kat2 09-14-2011 05:31 AM

I am the same way with my favorites. But I figure there is that perfect quilt pattern with the fabric waiting to merge together.

Love the purse! Is there a pattern or is it an original from "fabric whisperer"?

I have several special cows in my stash. They come out of the barn, but go right back in, they are afraid to be in the light too long. Then I have some not as special cows who come out every time I open the door and never get choosen, They do not like the dark. Then there are those whojust like to let it all hang out, they just show up in every quilt. I am amazed how they separate themselves.
